Most people i know hate it, because they think it has "messed up" the franchise. The love the 2D ones but hate the 3D ones. I seriously can't udnerstand why, but 3D ones are the best.
My guess is that's it not like the original Metroid, and it's not a rapid fire shoot everything that moves FPS. It's a combination of the two and people expect one or the other.
Metroid Prime is my #2 game of all time, next to OOT. Some people don't like it because it's not uber linear and mindless action like Halo, you have to solve puzzles and the like. It doesn't really appeal to casuals.
Because not every1 is intelligent enough to understand or appreciate it. If halo is like starwars than Metriod is like 2001 Space Odyssey (except, u know, better because 2001 space odyssey sucks)
it's kinda ironic that i found this because i'm bidding on metroid prime on ebay right now. i never had a GC and i need something to keep me going through this game drought. i'll prolly buy MP2 in a few weeks. exactly 2 hours to go on the bidding.

I love the game, but I can understand how it wouldn't appeal to a lot of people. It's much more of an adventure game than anything else, and adventure games aren't for everyone.

I don't like the aiming, at least in the first one, I don't own the second. I don't like locking on to enemies to have to shoot them.
Well I don't mind the lock-on personally though I can see why people who play FPS games a lot would dislike it. But Prime isn't designed to be an FPS, sure it has combat but it is at it's core an exploration action adventure game. Too many people come in expecting an FPS game and expect it to play like one too.
The lock-on is mainly down the the terrible design of the GC controllers. The only other stick which could have been used for dual analogue was the C-Stick but that was used for beams and the control stick could only move the beam from side to side so there really was no option but to have lock on so you could hit those enemies that fly above you without having to hold R everytime you want to move the gun up. The GC controller simply didn't have enough buttons.
TBH though I thought the control was perfect in every way.

U should get MP1 as well, imo 1 is better than 2. i must have confused you. i'm bidding on MP1 right now and i'll get MP2 sometime after i beat MP1 (i wanna play them all in order)
They could of mapped the beams to the Z button so you could cycle through them and then put the map in the pause screen.gamenutz93
That would have meant you'd have to have held down the button and waited to reach a specific beam though. I really liked the C-Stick beam system because you could change to any beam immediately. Your method would require you to wait longer and changing beams quickly is really need in Prime to be down quickly, especially when in combat.
HOW VERY DARE THEY!! Metroid prime is easily the greatest game i've ever played. Its concept is prolly the cause of why people dislike it, instead of being a platformer, or a rapid fire First person SHOOTER, they combine the 2 elements and create a First person game with much less emphasis on shooting than people were expecting, and concentrate on exploring, puzzle solving, and Scaning! Compared to other FPS like Quake 3, Unreal Tourney, and Painkiller, metroid prime felt quite refreshing to play. Yes there are battles in there, but it's upto the player to decide if they want to engage enemies, except for boss monsters of course, in which you have no choice. All in all, i'm glad 1st person gaming decided to take a dose of estrogen for a change, and not keep going back to violence as the only way to proceed
No, more people like it than hate it, when we had a game of the generation tournament when users voted it was in the top5. That's like saying "why do so many people hate OoT"?

Dunno if the 3D Metroid games are better but they are a huge step up from the side scrolling versions. I love both styles but originally Metroid Prime 1 was a bother to me because there wasnt a story line, I just like Echoes better because there was a story and the amount of backtracking isnt as painful. I just wish there wasnt so much scanning in both games.

So much scanning? The only things you have to scan are lifts and sometimes bosses. There is hardly any compulsory scanning in the game...
