Why do storylines in FPS usually bad ?

The method of advancement (ie, blowing stuff up) doesn't usually lead to meaningful scenarios, characters or plot development.

It's the same reason most action movies have bad plots.

I disagree.  Many games, especially RPGs have amazing story.  It's just that some game genres don't lend themselves to stories that well.  However, there are always exceptions.

I don't see what was so bad about Halo 2s ending.  It was a cliffhanger, but it cannot be faulted for that.  The ending was frustrating, but it left it open for a sequel.

Well, i disagree with that and agree with the first guy that most stories in video games suck, including RPG's. Most of the better RPG's have stories about as bad as average TV shows.

I sort of agree with both. RPGs can have good stories but most of the stories are tired and 2nd hand (almost all RPG themes have been done before).

RPGs have generic storylines but some games pull them off well.

You ever tried scanning nearly everything in Metroid Prime? There's so much backstory and info it's nearly on the verge of being annoying.
