How far is the day that games will run on the above level of graphics 1080p 60fps on reasonable hardware? IMO anything we have seen to this day looks like cr@p compare to that video.

I'd pick varied, original and fun gameplay over "highest graphics level".
I mean, tech-demos are nice but if there's no good gameplay accomodating them, they are pretty worthless, as games... (of course it's ideal to have both, fantastic visuals as well as gameplay)
I dont recall any game that is composed only of close up of faces....
I seem to miss the point of this (stupid) thread.
That tech demo looks nice... dare i say i peek out the other side of the Valley?
Anyway, one of the problem is cost; The high fidelity of such a level will increase costs and time, which in turn decreases the amount that can be done to make games longer, buth because of dev time and because of data allowances...
People often look to motion picture 3D animation and say "well look how much better that is! if they can do it, why can't we?" Well, look how long it takes Pixar to do their films... and that's a set piece, with all animations and assets made for one 90 min experience... video games have to create a myriad of animations, characters, environments et cetera for the sake of a players runthrough of an 8 hour plus game :(
Not sure anyone has said it CAN'T be done, but it may be valid to say we are reaching a point of diminishing returns, but hey, maybe I'm wrong to some degree...

The head and face of "Psycho" in Crysis 3 looks very similar.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGVw70YYQqc

There's no pretending, I just don't care about huge improvements right now. There are a lot of other things this industry needs to work on. Getting everyone to 1440P and 120 FPS isn't really one of them.

Ultra realistic graphics are not what I'm looking for in a game, I'd even say that I'm against those direction. I want buttery smooth gameplay with vibrant, crisp and creative designs.rjdofuLets stay then on PS2 that can run perfectly stylised graphics at no cost.

Because we already have reached the highest graphics level. The Cell on PS3 is so powerful it has the ability to process graphics in a resolution beyond what our eyes can see, making it above photorealism. Sadly, Sony didn't want this technology in the wrong hands so they had to limit it's capabilities.
just let the game die its glorius death already.Gameplay > graphics

Pretty much this.. While "fans" are dry humping the shiney new graphics, they are allowing the dumbing down of numerous genres in which games are in fact taking numerous steps back in numerous genres..
