Why Do You Love Gran Turismo?

I love Gran Turismo because of the presentation, feel, tone and attention to detail in the game. GT may not have the prettiest graphics, or the best physics, but it is all at top quality. We can go all day about physics, but I could care less because the way GT feels just feels "right" to me.

I have tried other racing games (like Forza Motorsport), but it didn't feel right to me. The whole time I was playing Forza, I felt homesick from GT. :?

The Menu Music

is

amazing.

I enjoy Gran Turismo almost entirely for the pure enjoyment I get out of driving the cars.

I also love GT because of things like this.

And this. :)

And if you DON'T like the GT series, please state why.

Yeah, its not just the racing or the reailsm, the style of all the menus and music, as well as the way its presented just gives me this feeling of a laid-back kind of awesome. I played GT5: P quite a bit on a G25 wheel, and it was one of the most fantastic gaming experiences I've ever had. Forza may have crashes, but it doesn't have the same soul GT has for me.

It has the best menu music EVER. But in all seriousness it's just good fun, in recent times i've enjoyed the Forza series more gameplay wise, but it's not as if it completely kills the GT series for me, theres just something about the GT games that makes them feel majestic.

I'm not much of a fan of racing sims, I prefer the real thing. Driving sports cars in real life is a lot more fun and absolutely nothing like playing video games.

I love GT because it's the easy mode of racing games, it's a game were you can go full throttle and bounce of other cars/walls/pretty much anything and just carry on like nothing ever happened, it's not so much a sim of racing BUT as sim of pinball and that's why i love GT. It does have great music though :D.

Support for Logitech wheels. Really, MS' wheel is okay, but there's just no comparison to a G25. Other than that, I prefer Forza in every aspect, but the input device is so important that it really does cancel out.

Can't drive hundreds of different cars in real life, and with the best wheels, it might not be like driving for real, but you still get a good feel for it, and a feel for trying a variety of cars, all which drive very differently.

I never really liked them, I don't see what's so great about this series. I got them cheap and still feel like I wasted my money on them. Probably good enough for a rent, but not a must buy IMO. And I have no/zero interest in GT5 either.

That's true, but I have driven my fair share of them, and owned a few. I don't think games will ever really get the feel right. They seem to have the most trouble with braking and turning.

This. Also because GT1 was the first game I had for my PS1, GT3 was the first game I had for my PS2, and GT5 Prologue was the first game I had for my PS3. In all three cases I had bought the game before the console so I would have my favorite racing game to play when I got the console. The game just has a really good feel to it. It's not all about the racing, but the cars and manufacturers and overall presentation of the game that makes GT so good.

No wonder I didn't enjoy it that much, you had to care about things I wouldn't technically care about in a racing game.

It was great at one time, but Forza (Gamespot reviews prove it) and GTR have surpassed GT. Polyphony took too long and fell behind the curve. They'll probably never catch up now. So no, I don't really like the franchise much anymore.

reviews don't prove anything. Its all up to the individual. I like GT(as do many many others) over Forza, am I wrong because gamespot or IGN disagrees?

Well, Gran Turismo 5: Prologue may be the most photo-realistic racing game out right now, but the physics engine is not the most realistic out there. PC sims seem to have more realistic models that define the handling characteristics of the cars.

I love GT, the game has essence, it has soul, and you can tell how much love and care was put into it, owning a car in GT feels great, there's just something about the cars that make them all seem so special and unique, they aren't just diferent skins with stats, each car has a soul. Plus the game is totally addicting, need moar muné! To pimp my ridez!

I've been playing Forza 2 while waiting for GT5 and it's a great game, glad I don't have to pick between them :P But I do think GT is much more realistic except for damage ofc. 1 example drifting in GT = Hard, drifting in Forza = easy, this isn't necessarily a bad thing tho, the ez drifting actually helped me get into the game, it depends on how "hardcore" you are I guess. I do find GT to be the better series for car fanatics, Forza is the better series for gamers that feel like playing a good sim.

And for the record I think GT5 is going to be Godly.

the menus are great. the number of cars is amazing. the driving is the best out of any racing series IMO. the presentation is always top notch. there is so much to do making the value sky high. the events and tracks and everything you do is so fun. and it just feels so authentic.

I don't like the GT Series, I feel the games are dull and boring. I think that Forza 2 (never played 1) feels more alive (have no idea why, maybe its the custom car paint or because you don't have to get a racing license ). However, the GT games do have better music then Forza. :P

The attention to detail with the cars. The tracks are hit or miss, the menus are almost too glossy to be useful, but the cars are beautiful and the replays are done in such a way that they're more interesting to watch than Forza's replays... At least, they used to be. Prologue's replays are surprisingly plain, unless there's an option to sync with music and add effects that I've missed. GT3 and GT4 had better replays - not in terms of graphics, just the choice of camera angles, effects, options, and the subtle camera shakes that became a little less subtle in Prologue. Really, GT5P dropped the series' replays on par with Forza's...they're not bad, but there's nothing spectacular about them and unless something crazy happened mid-race I'm not about to watch it just for the sake of watching cool cars drive around a track. I mean, I used to race crappy cars on the Nurburgring just so I could watch a replay after. Weird, maybe, but that's part of what made the game for me. It certainly wasn't the racing itself, since the AI was (and is) idiotic and while the driving was satisfying to a point I never really felt like certain cars were different from one another. Also, the series has some of the most grating tire squeals I've ever heard, and it sounds like they're using the same samples in GT5P that have been around for ages. I guess my reason for liking Gran Turismo boils down to this - I appreciate that the modelers were probably pleasuring themselves while putting all of the cars into the game, because cars are awesome. Whether the overall experience has much to offer, I don't really care, since the Gran Turismo experience has never been that well-rounded and it's never bothered me before. Things like rally racing have made nice bullet points for the box but they weren't all that fun in practice. I dunno. If I want to race, I'll play Forza. If I want to ogle cars, I'll play Gran Turismo. Going back a generation, it's like comparing Beach Spikers to Dead or Alive: Xtreme Beach Volleyball. Although Forza doesn't have lesbianesque victory animations and Gran Turismo doesn't have giant breasts.

I do not remember and nobody has shown me where I said that. Please prove it. And if I did say it, it was a mistake. PC sims are currently the most realistic when it comes to the physics engine.
