After playing Postal and seeing the myriad of ways I can pee on people before shooting them in the face and earning "finesse" points.........................i got addicted.Vandalvideo
Are you serious?
A fair amount of Nintendo games are kiddy. A violent game doesnt automatically take it out of being kiddy. A game who'se only purpose is to attract you with its exaggerated violence is probably kiddy too considering its only selling point is pure shock value......i hardly doubt a game like that will have any kind of real depth that would put off an early teenager.
On the other hand, there are some city building/management games that are rated E that have no violence, but its pretty rare to see anyone below a teenager playing them to due to complexity.
TBH I think games like mario are pretty violent. That really is deep
I mean he stamps on the gombaas heads that to me is pretty violent.

Violence is human nature and instinct. Fortunately we have evolved into civilized people over the years (well, most people outside of the system wars board anyway). This has resulted in violence declining and it is less a part of popular culture as it once was. For example, you will not see any Roman gladiator combat in todays times. This means that as soon as we see something which shocks us, it encaptivates us and we have to watch.
Public executions in the Middle East are common. If shown to an American it's shocking, but shown to an Arab living in those parts it is the norm. Playing an excessively violent game for the first time results in you not wanting to turn away, because you are in shock. When you chainsawed your first Locust it was stunning. Now, you'll easily rev it up and let rip without second thought, maybe even reaching for the beer while the cutscene plays. Basically what i'm saying is that games which are violent for the sake of being violent can still hold some entertainment value.

Because I like watching the pain I inflict upon people take its toll. It makes me feel as if I'm a god and they are my creation.
Also, I watch the view.

How many games can any of us bring up that have zero violent content. I think there is Myst and ........., well Myst.
Perhaps I am wrong but unless you are a hypocrite can you actually claim that crushing something with a giant hammer ala Mario is any less pretend violence than any other pretend violence in any game? Pretend violence is pretend violence, an entire generation played cops and robbers or coyboys and indians did the media or the politicians of the time attempt to have that legislated out of existence? The question of violence in the media is pretty inane when media for the most part reflects what a society is seeing happen around them at the time. If you want less violence in games, music television and the movies you must first eliminate real world violence. Good luck on that.
If you do not wish for your children to be exposed to violence do not allow them access to "M" rated games, Music, television, movies(especally Disney movies lol the irony) or the news. In the past parents exposed children to violence at a pretty early age with for example the unedited versions of the Brother's Grimm tales in which subjects like death, rape, cannabalisim and more were a part of the narritive. Violence and the ways people are encultured to react to violence is very importent to the psycological well being of children and eliminating violence from your childs education is certainly more harmful in the long run than doling it out a bit at a time the way humans have done it for thousands of years. So take care all and don't let the boogieman getcha.
Dudes.... Dr. Phil is on GS!!!...Awesome....Can I get an autograph? But seriously, good points...people do need to take more responsilbility for their actions or inactions when it comes to what they expose their children to.How many games can any of us bring up that have zero violent content. I love blowing people to tiny giblets and other tender morsels after they talk **** on Unreal Tournament. Satisfying.SemiMasterThere is nothing wrong with that man, I feel the same way.8)
It allows for a cathartic experience in most people. Participating in a violent act with actually harming any real object or thing is actually quite theraputic for people with normal brain functions. because of they way our thought patterns work, we can take a negative emotion or thought, attach it to that zombie over there, and then blow up said zombie with a rocket launcher. However our subconcious views this not as blowing up a zombie, but as blowing up the negative emotion or thought, thereby reliveing any stress or emotional fatigue. You can do this whithout even knowing that you are as this type of thought process can happen on an entirley sub-concious level.

Because they are fun? Shooting people in a video game can be fun you know. It presents a different experience than solving puzzles or jumping from platform to platform. Some people would rather have to shoot their way though a terrorist infested casino than explore dungeons and solve puzzles. Others would rather simulate their favorite sports game than beat up gang members...
They are all different experiences. Some people like certain ones, others like other types. Personally I like a mix of all of them.
