I know that there are different strokes for different folks, but I know I'm not alone on this. To me, Far Cry is Ubisoft at its best and it makes their other games pale in comparison, the only other quality series by Ubisoft these days is Rayman (Splinter Cell: Blacklist put Sam Fisher on the map, though). The core gameplay feels a lot less restrictive than Assassin's Creed, hunting is very prominent element of the game and for a considerable time it is really satisfying as well, unlike its tacked-on equivalent in Black Flag where the upgrades you make from those elements offer diminishing returns. What is more, it makes encounters with hostiles more random, because of monitor lizards and other dangerous predators capable of killing AI. What is more, the collectable side of the game isn't steeped in junior high school mentality and doesn't make you go OCD. Every radio tower was hand-made and was different than the rest, every outpost was also different than the previous one, increasingly more difficult. The game is a lot more immmersive as well, and you truly feel like an explorer. The game blends side-exploration and story-based missions a lot more organically than Assassin's Creed which requires you to jump through the map several thousand times. The story while not great by any means involves several fleshed-out characters, such as Vaas who really make a strong impression throughout instead of several bland people with no sense of purpose whatsoever.
Do you agree that Far Cry is a crowning achievement of Ubisoft?
I wish Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon retained that title, though.
