No honestly not to offend lemmings... but why has microsoft called it an xbox 360 when it's not even x-shaped or shares a resemblence of an x? i can see why they called the first xbox its name becuz it had an x on it... not counting the xbox 360 logo engraved on the system.... i just thought it was kind of funny how microsoft has called it the xbox progenitorvirus
Â
I find the three console names equally dumb, and somewhat retarded..., no offense to anyonebut IMO thats it.Â
OK, so what the hell is a Wii?Gamer556
beats me... but "xbox" your first thoughts are somewhat resemblence of an x becuz they call it xbox... i just dont know why microsoft did that but most likely due to its success with the xbox
i dont care about the Xbox part
the 360 part was so they could compete with Sony...if you went to the store, which would you buy? Playstation 3or Xbox 2
Why do you call Microsoft M$? $ is not a letter!
Anyways, I've heard tow reasons for the 360. One was that it would unite the world in gaming, a round world, circle when viewed in 2d, 360 degrees in the circle. Also 360 doesn't sound inferior to PS3. Xbox 2 not only sounds lame, but lamely inferior.
As for the origin of Xbox, I think it had a lot to do with their early marketing. You know those "For 'insert feature here' there is no power greater than X" X being the traditional variable in mathematics....... I dunno, that's the best reason I could think up.

I'm not sure why this thread got any bigger. Haha. Seriously, If you gave it a brand new name, people would get confused, I think. Brand name is very important.

Based on commercials, the 360Â is meant to represent XBOX's world wide gaming community.
"Play from anywhere"
i know why m$ called it the 360.... but the x360 doesn't feature any directX technology like the 1st one, but features XNA architecture. so there's really no connection between the look of the console, to its hardware to match its actual name.... progenitorvirusif you didnt notice there is a "X" in XNA also. so i guess they decided they didnt need too change the name after all.

yah thats true... next time when m$ makes a new console they should at least make their console resemble an x... maybe they should just take a cardboard box slap an x logo on it and sell it  that would make a lot more sense

I hope your PC get's fried so you never touch your keyboard again. You are nothing but a troll. All you do is blindly bash 360 because you don't have any good games to play yourself. Yeah what a terrible guy Bill Gates! I mean what kind of a loser runs the world's largest charity foundation anyways

Bill Gates is one of the richest (the richest?) man in the world. If he didn't give away a huge chunk to charity, he would look like a complete scoundrel. Not saying he doesn't care, but giving money to charity doesn't make anyone a "good" person. The people that have a problem with Gates have a problem with his business practices, the money he's giving away was scalped out of all of us that own computers.
LINUX FTW!Â

Yes, it really is. If you go to a store and base your purchase on whichever product has a bigger number in it, God help you. If marketing was that easy, the market would be flooded with things like Coke 3000, Motorola 2 Billion ZTX, Honda GT 400,000,000.Â

Its the next X-box console. They added the " 360 " so then it wouldn't seem inferior to ps3. whats sounds more advanced ? PS3, or X-box 2 ?Â

Because they were scared to call it "Xbox 2" because Xbox 2 would look worse than PS3 for the casual gamer. In other words, Microsoft is scared of Sony.Â

"According to Dean Takahashi's book, "Opening the Xbox", the Xbox was originally going to be called DirectX-box, to show the extensive use of directX within the console's technology. "Xbox" was the final name decided by marketing, but the console still retains some hints towards DirectX, most notably the "X"-shaped logo, which DirectX is famous for, along with the "X" shape on the top of the system."
