Why does Mass Effect get dissed for being like Kotor and yet Bioshock gets a pass for being like System Shock II. From what I've seen of the games Bioshock is WAY more similar to System Shock II then Mass Effect is to Kotor. Worse yet, Mass Effect builds upon and refines what Kotor did and Bioshock's gameplay is basically a dumbed down version of System Shock II's gameplay. Don't take this as a diss against Bioshock because I loved what I played of Bioshock, this is more of an attack against the people that harp on the similarities between Mass Effect and Kotor and never mention anything about Bioshock and System Shock II. Personally, I have no problem with either game borrowing from great games of the past.

Actually, I hear people say System Shock 2 is better than Bioshock all the time. But not around here that much though.

Just like the Lems dissed and said Heavenly Sword was like GOW. It hurts fanboys when the tables turn.

Because prettymuch no one has played System Shock2 and the setting is far different than Bioshock. With Mass Effect Bioware went from a sci-fi RPG on Xbox to a Sci-fi RPG on 360....... very damned similar but really who gives a damn.

...KOTOR had a really ingenious plot with top voice acting.. There is a reason why it won GOTY at alot of places...

Yeah because after all we all love those dumbed down game mechanics that can be compared to the PoS game called Oblivion.

ProtossRushX

Any one else find this comparsion hilarious? Bioshock was nothing like System Shock 2, it was dumbe down in just about every way possible.. It had no real decision making worth mentioning, and rpg elements.. Simply put there was none.. You could do anything and everthing from just about at the word go.. And there were so few useful plasmids and gene tonics there really was only 1 or 2 viable builds.. The enviroment was unique yes...

KOTOR had a great sotry line with a great plot twist and superb voice acting... It was a great freeform rpg that I liked alot even when I was not particularly a fan of Starwars..

This I would see as a problem if there were a overabundence of those type of RPG's with DnD toolsets/customizability.. But long and behold there is really absolutely 0 as of lately.

There are more Xboxers on this forum than PC gamers, therefore there are more people that have been exposed to Kotor than System Shock 2. To many people here, bioshock was a totally "new" experience, so they never complained about it.

On Friday some of the guys from 2K Australia were at EGE showing off the early designs for Bioshock - it was basically identical to System Shock 2, with a very similar sci-fi setting - although it was set in World War 2 and you fought genetically engineered Nazis.

They may have changed the setting, but it's still very similar to SS2 (but dumbed down).
