I am a cow and there is no denying it, but why does it seem that MS is trying to cut out the competition. First they push there console to be out way before the competitions, which isn't that big of a deal but it really did screw up a lot the plans of Nintendo and Sony. Next they buy out Sony exclusives hoping that ps2 fans buy there system. And in recent news they buy exclusive GTA4 download-able content, and are suing Immersion to keep rumble exclusive to xbox360, i didn't know that you could own the rights to a spinning motor in a controller.

Whats next, MS copies Nintendos motion control and sonys tilt control. I think MS is trying to own the gamming world just like they own the OS world for computers. A windows vista upgrade disk costs $140 for regular and $260 for ultimate, is that what we want to see in gamming? Do you want to see MS rule with an iron fist so they can charge way to much for there products?

I think the 360 has some great games to offer and are getting some great games in the comming months, but this is getting out of hand. MS has to stop this crap

Nono MS SHOULD be getting together with Sony and Nintendo and hold hands and give them presents and be BEST friends!!!

1) Business is competition. MS is DAMN rich, and they can just about buy whatever the hell they want. They have a problem? They throw money at it.

2) Nintendo is owning the gaming market right now. Abosoutely owning it. So no worries as of yet in terms of MS ruling with an iron fist.

3) It's not crap, it's business.

Most of those things are perfectly acceptable: the PS2 came out first last gen, there's nothing wrong with buying exclusives to get people to buy your console. Sony's tilt is a copy of Nintendo's motion sensing.

As for the Immersion thing, I don't know much about it but I'm assuming Immersion is probably violating a contract they have with MS, otherwise why would MS sue them?

It may seem "cool" to hate Microsoft, but everything they're doing, possibly with the exception of the lawsuit, is perfectly fine.

System launch date argument: See Playstation 2

Exclusives going multi-platform: Welcome to capitalism. This has been happening for years. Look up all the PC games ported onto consoles like the Sega Saturn, PS 1 and N 64 (examples: Command & Conquer, Starcraft, Quake, etc.)

GTA 4 downloadable content: So what, PS 3 (last I heard) was getting downloadable content too. Not the same as the 360 gets, but so what?

Immersion: They violated a contract with MS saying that if Immersion settled its lawsuit with Sony, they had to pay Microsoft a percentage of the deal. Doesn't deal with rumble exclusivity at all

Thats exactly what i was thinking after i read the first sentence then the sentence about buying exclusives.

Why do you remain a cow? What is the reason for being a fanboy? I go where the games are, not where a certain company's logo is.

Ironically if there were more mac users here there would be a huge shout out against M$ about how they are monopolizing .... (pick and expletive). In the real world I spend more time defending M$ and justifying my use of a PC and here I spend more time defending my decision not to use a 360.

More to the point, M$ knows how to take over a market, why do you think they got pieced out by the federal government. Now they are in a market besides software development and they are gonna try to do the same thing. Why do they want to control, cause that's business. Granted I think they are a little underhanded about it, but what can anyone do about it except hope that thier competetors are able to stay in the game.

As for the quote above, well, the bold part is just BS. No one should have that much money, even Gates has realized that which is why he now spends all his time giving it away. The reason there are laws against monopolies is because there is such a thing as too much money. Seriously, with a little bit of smart investing most of the people in the world would be able to live the rest of their lives without working off one or two million bucks. What is a person supposed to do with a billion.

there a company just like any other. if they see an opening to take a monoply then they will do it. as would sony and ninty. its what they do. its the competitions job to make sure that doesent happen while at the same time trying to get their own monoply.

personally i believe that if a company has a monoply, its because the competition isnt good enough. PS2 practically had a monoply because MS were only learning the ropes and ninty had their heads stuck up their backsides. look at the market now. ninty have come out all guns blazing and MS are far more agressive and have a far better idea about what they are about. better competition.

companies exist to make money. a monoply is a very good way to make lots of money. obtaining that monoply and stopping others from getting it is just good business sense. u may never get it but aiming high is always a good thing and ensure that a company remains agressive.

1. Your Windows monopoly pricing *lie* is absolute crap - OS 10.4 Tiger is $129.99 in the Apple Store, guess Apple is a giant evil monopoly as well, right? Even Linux costs money, versions of Linux published by companies that offer tech support, or versions of Linux with special features like games support cost money. You pay for the software because of the cost of making, distributing, and supporting it

Is that ever going to come over to the console / handheld market? No. Apple doesn't charge for firmware updates for the iPod, Nintendo doesn't charge for Wii updates, and Microsoft has never charged for a system update on the Xbox or the 360.

2. Why does Sony want to monopolize the gaming industry? Why does Nintendo want to monopolize the gaming industry? MONEY. Microsoft isn't evil, neither is Sony or Nintendo. Don't sit around with your biased "one company is better than another" lie. If you want to believe that, fine, but they're all corporate giants composed of individuals. Those individuals are just doing their job, and if their company is successful they've done their job well.

None of those individuals at Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo know you, and frankly none of them care about you. Nothing personal, they have millions of customers, you're just "tech support call #535342" to them, anything they do for you as a customer is to make sure they keep getting money from you in the future. That's it. That's how business works, they aren't your friend, they are multinational corporations that provide you with a product or service in exchange for money.

So please... stop trying to appeal to some kind of "justice" tha doesn't exist - Sony made bad business decisions, and now they're bleeding money. Nintendo made good business decisions, and they're about to overtake Sony in market capitalization - despite having a fraction of the assets that Sony does, and operating in fewer markets.

I love all these if MS does it they are EVIL but when Sony does it then it is good buisness.

Last gen PS2 launched a year first but i bet that is ok.

Last gen Sony paid for things also such as a timed GTA exclusive. Sure since Sony did it that is fine also.

You have a problem with MS having the leading OS but do you say anything about Sony trying to have the leadingformat with Blu-Ray?

You say MS would copy Nintendo and Sony. Sony copied their motion control idea from Nintendo and also Sony just released a article saying how they will put features on PSN like XBL. So pretty much copy XBL.

MS is not sueing so Sony can not get rumble. They are sueing because the Immersion broke the contract.

It is hard to see these things with fanboy goggles on, I know.

you cannot defend monopolistic practices. I don't care who does it, it's wrong, unethical, and illegal.

I just want to clear up some things about monoplies that many people have a misconception about here on SW:

it is not business, it's domination. a monopoy is not part of capitalism. yes, people compete for the market advantage, but no one is supposed to obtain that absolute top level of the economy which would be a monopoly.

competition produces the best economic situation. equal level competition. MS has stepped over boundry after boundry down the road to absolute control.

MS has done this in the past. They were trying to build a monopoly in PCs with their OSs. the government had to step in and stop this. this is what the government does, they regulate the economy when it shifts into extremes. monopolies are bad for people, they are not beneficial business practices. lemmings should fear an MS monopoly, cows should fear a sony monoploy, and sheep should fear a nintendo monopoly. because as soon as one company becomes a monopoly, its loyal cosumers are the first to get screwed over.

Every company, basically, wants to be a monopoly.. obviously there's legal buffers and such to prevent it in most cases, but nonetheless every single company wishes to be the best at what they do. The better a company is, the more money they make, and from this stems the basic ideas of capitalism: companies compete for your dollar, and thus prices are kept low and quality high.

Basic stuff, really.

IF MS didn't enter and Sony had no Competition(Sony isn't really competing with the Wii as its a complement to anoter console IMO), we'd all be forced to buy a 600 hundred console. Though it may seem harsh, its just business and if Sony and Ninty were in the same position, they'd do the same thing.

It's so sad that so many people hate Microsoft and don't even really understand why they hate them. I've noticed that a lot of people just repeat whatever moronic statements about them that they here around the internet.

MS is no more evil any any multi billion dollar global corporation looking to make a profit. In fact Bill Gates gives more money to charity thanmost people on the planet.

That's not true at all because of the basic laws of supply elasticity and the production possibilities curve. $600 isn't a sustainable price point, even without competition -

it's something called the $100, $1000, or $100,000 problem in sofware engineering - basically you either make your software $100 ~ $1000 and sell to tons of people without a problem, or you make it $100,000 and sell to a few big business and government institutions. At price points over $1000, you have to deal with business negotiation, which means lot of expensive business trips, meetings, demonstrations, et cetera - to the point where you're better off charging in the tens of thousands of dealing only with huge enterprises. Only industry standard software like Adobe Suite and server operating systems break from this model, but even digital media sofware stays below the $1000 price point.

In Sony's case, the demand is going to shift if the price is too high, in a way that makes it unprofitable to offer the PS3 at $600. What will happen is they will design the system to fall into the $200 ~ $300 price range, or they will aim for the $1000+ price range. Prices inbetween don't make sense - you either charge what it costs to produce OR sell tens of millions of units and leverage software licensing fees, there's no inbetween, even for a monopoly. For a better example of this, take a look at Apple pricing - most of their machines are $1000 and up - yet all of their toys tend to be $500 and below. Why? Product for the masses versus products that are not as purchased as often sold at a larger profit.

I never said i hate MS for no reason, i just said that MS seems to be trying to own the gaming world by cutting out its competition. I no business is about making it to the top, but MS isnt exactly making it to the top by making there product the best they are playing "dirty" by throwing there money around. Do you see what I am saying?

Throwing money around to get exclusive content for GTAIV sounds like making their product the best to me.

I would figure paying to get exclusive content IS making their product better. The 360 version will have content that the PS3 won't. It happens all the time. Paying for exclusive content is a smart move for MS, they want the best version for the 360 and don't have a problem paying for it, because they think it's worth it. It's a pretty simple business move.
