People get angry with Assassins Creed and Call of Duty when Pokemon has not changed in almost 20 years. They also get away with making remakes that are simply graphical updates.

Why does Pokemon get a free pass? It literally uses ancient gameplay mechanics.

Because Nintendo's main constituents are kids and teens and there will always be those. I was actually surprised at how little the game has changed, myself. Bought X last year pretty much out of nostalgia (haven't played since Red), and it's true.

That's the thing about most Japanese developers and publishers, they're oblivious to public opinion. If the game sells well they will keep making more of it just like Activision, they don't give a shit about the sensible people who actually require innovation to want a game, they only care about the audience that currently enjoys their games, the ones that don't complain (sheeple).

As someone who loves JRPGs, I can say that I see your point. It's just a taste thing I guess. You love it or you hate it. I personally love a god JRPG, and even though the majority have very similar gameplay to one another, there's usually some kind of twist that sets individual games apart. That's what I've found at least. Plus, several recent ones have reminded true to what many people love about JRPGs while still delivering innovation.

There are quite a few games that got it right first (lets discount Dynasty Warriors from that list) then the sequels completely **** it up, sometimes change is bad and all what was needed was expanding the content rather than changing the gameplay.

Yeah it doesn't. Anyway, the last Pokemon i played was Black in the DS, it was my fourth Pokemon game and yeah, it's pretty much the same concept, but the game is really fun to play, if people have an issue with that...then don't buy the game, nobody here get's a "free pass" like you said, if the game is fun, then people will buy it, period, even if it is the same game over and over again (Pokemon, Assassin's Creed, GEOW, CoD, etc...)

The metagame/competitive scene of pokemon has seen a massive change since 1996. In fact, Pokemon Pearl and Diamond had one of the biggest impacts on it.
