Racial loyalty is a lot stronger among Japanese than Caucasians. Japanese will almost never buy anything non-japanese which tries to immitate a japanese product. Game consoles were a japanese creation by origin. The Xbox is merely an american version of something originally japanese which is trying to capitalize on the japanese market. I can see why many japanese won't support the xbox.
Cars were invented by the west. Japanese created their own versions of it. American's still buy japanese cars. Hence, not at the same level.

What are you talking about?Video game systems are originally American.
And many non-japanese products and companies are incredibly successful in Japan.
The xbox could have been huge in japan. Microsoft just didn't release the right games for it.
Well, the first commercially 'successful' game console was Atari. You judge an industry by the ones who set a standard for it, not by who invented the first working prototype without commercial success. Just like electronics, like any other technology in this world, were mostly invented by the West. But the japanese set the standard for electronics nowadays, and became a japanese dominated industry. In general, japanese have more faith in japanese electronics than American. The 360's RROD is a testiment to the fact that American's are just not as good at it.....
And i didn't say that non-japanese products won't be successful in japan. It really depends on whether the product has a strong japanese competition or not, and whether the japanese were the pioneers of that product.
