Why does Xbox Live Gold have ads and email ads?

Why is that I quit a game after I'm done playing I don't land back in "my xbox" but another section that starts to display ads. They even email ads about new games coming, $50 service with spam emails and ads is not good business practice. Got those crazy beef jerky ads. When I go back to my PS3 and log into PSN, the only ads which you can choose to look at are all about games. There is a reason why a person chooses to subscribe to a website like Gamespot to get better features with no ads. Yes, live does have some features I can go without that PSN doesn't have, but PSN does't have a whole section for ads about junk.

Because it's smart to advertise to people who are willing to pay money? I mean they are paying for live after all, they may be willing to pay for other things. (this isn't a dig at people who pay for live)

Maybe Xbl Gold will come out with a plus service like psn which gets rid of adds. 100 bucks a year. (more likely just 75)

and you ignored the 99% of the time did you not? and I remember that ad, it lead to a ad area with themes and gamerpics, and videos from that company.

As it is even with ad's NXE is faster to navigate and find things and play games and start things up then XMB is. so I don't get the problem. ignore the ad's.

give it up man, this is not like TV, free tv has ads, paid TV has ads. It is between PSN and Live, a different medium, going by raw logic, the 360 is bloated with ads. I know you are a PSN user also, how do you deny the fact that the PS3 almost shows no ads but the 360, sections full? And I don't think NXE is faster then the PS3. If you want to look at the system memory go all the way right, dig 3 or 4 times, Ps3 go left twice, go down and that's it. Fair enough right? Looking at saved game files, much longer on the NXE, the NXE scatters game essential files around, PS3 is on one column. The fact that you think NXE is faster is starting to show some fan boyism. XMB was designed to be fast and easy, and it beats NXE on that. NXE looks better, but PSN has the speed. You only spend so much time on the dashboard or XMB. case closed!

another reason why is because the people that put the ads on there want to advertise their product and believe it or not a lot of people have a 360 and the word can be more spread out because of the ads.

You are going to get ads because MS wants you to. They are easy enough to avoid and they don't prevent you from doing anything. Most of the time you are in the dashboard you move right past them.You pay money to get into the movies and yet so see commercials. This is nothing new. It's another way to make money.

you would think with so many adds they would make it free to play, but no. Halo reach is coming out soon and i will buy it, but I honestly don't feel like paying for gold especially when I know i wont use it all the time.AiurProtoss

Since when cable has been free or satelite.? they don't charge you for the movies on each channel,they charge you for letting you access the networks,the networks are the ones that run the adds because that is how they make money.

On normal TV is like that as well,you get charge nothing for seeing movies and programs,and is the add what pay the content.

Live charge you $50 a year for allowing you to connect to other players,something that is free every where else,but to add insult to it they have more add than the other free service on the other console,add alone are paying MS for live your money is just a double dip for them.

I have no idea what you are talking about. I am on the dashboard all the time and usually if I see an ad for something not 360 related it is because there is some sort of free to enter contest going on. Download this gamerpic for free and be entered for a chance to win something.
