I think after 20 years Nintendo should throw us a bone and expand the character developement.

I mean, we all know through their actions they are the heroic type who believe in virtuous deeds, but what makes them tick? you can't tell me that.

Be strict, get a REALLY good voice actor for each and give them a little dialogue per game. Not much but something that can give fans a chance to see what their personality is like. I mean cmon, who doesn't want more insight into one of their favourite video game characters?

I mean they gambled with mario 64 and it turned out ok. I think Nintendo is lazy/taking the easy way out. Thoughts?

I hope they never talk in a game. It would ruin the classic touch to the game.

For dear God no. Not all games should have voice acting. The voice acting during Prime 3 just made me cringe most of the time because it just felt un-needed. And I felt the exact same way during Super Mario Galaxy when the Star Princess let out a few real lines. Nintendo do not put voice acting in your games.

Nintendo's games are geared towards the players imagination and amongst that note text speaks louder then voice.

Why doesn't Gordon Freeman talk?

I believe the idea is that the character is only supposed to serve as a stand-in for the player.

They make an effort NOT to hire a voice actor. If they did, it would ruin the games.

Because if Link Talked he would say stuff like "Well Excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse Me" and it would ruin the Series, and I don't know why Samus doesn't talk she has a great Voice over actress playing her so she should have more speaking parts.

I think he has a point, I mean he isn't asking for full out dialogues just maybe a few lines here and there to get a better feel for the character.

Ok I have heard the excuse about imagination, but I mean c'mon its a video game not a book. Again I dont think there should be whole dialogue scenes just a few lines to understand characters a little more.

Samus probably shouldn't talk a lot because she is always by herself unless she is communicating with someone.

....huh rambling I know.

Hmm, as long as it's not full dialoge...
I like them silent but I guess some small words here and there wouldn't hurt.

The whole idea of Link and the reason for his name, is based on the idea that the character Link is an actual link between you and the game itself. Thus everyone will have a different version of how they think Link should sound because everyone has their own unique internal voice.

I haven't followed too many of Samus' games so I don't really have an opinion on her voicing.

Mario has got a big enough vocabulary at the moment I feel. I get the feeling that if he were to talk more it would start to grind on me.

At any rate, I strongly feel that in games like Zelda all the other supporting characters (except Link) should have voice actors as it adds to the immersion level in the game.

I think there should be voice acting (especially in the mario RPG's. Those are like reading War And Peace.) But I can't imagine Link saying anything. I think just the rest of the characters should have the dialogue

Nope not at all people.. We have enough voice acting in games as it is.. Games such as Zelda and Mario are unique narratives where there is not suppose to be voices to begin with.

Why doesn't Freeman ever talk? Why doesn't the Hero of DQ ever talk? Why didn't the guy in GTA III ever talk? It's just the way it is. If you want to make your own game with talking protagonists go right ahead. It's not as if all Nintendo games feature silent heroes. Star Fox and F-Zero come to mind.

For the love of all that is Holy, I do not want Link, Samus or Mario talking. It just doesn't work... at all. I hate it when reviewers of these games talk bad about no voice acting... it's a GOOD thing. What gaming critics don't realize is the games they give high scores to are mostly action games. Voice acting is easy to get right in those "duuuurrr ima blow up dat house. Do u believe in Jesus? Well ur about 2 meet him BLAM". Mario, Link, Samus... totally different ball game. It just wouldn't be right.

Voice acting in a nintendo game? Are you sure you want that?

Seriously, i agree that LoZ should have complete voice acting, with the exception of link I'm sure we'll see that in the next zelda, given that it'll be a ground up wii game.

I think it is a bad idea for link to talk (samus sure why not):

1. It is a part of his character. He represents a piece of the triforce. He comes in, saves the world, and then leaves. He doesn't get involved with any of the characters. His enemies are all so evil that Link doesn't want to listen to anything they have to say, much less say anything to them.

2. It takes away from the gamer-to-character connection. That is why bungie was so smart to make master chief totally ambiguous. Imo, as they started to give him character through things like his name and his voice, it took away from the character and the games got lamer and lamer the more that bungie gave in to pressures to develop him more. This is a condition of video games. Main characters in video games are nothing like main characters in movies and should NOT be treated as such. This is not a hard and fast rule, but for a games like zelda it is a must imo.

3. Like someone already said, it gives it a nostalgic feel. Plus, if previous link didn't talk, why should this new one? Why not just make a whole other series instead of changing an old one so much?

That's not CDi Zelda, that's Super Mario Sunshine. I was only kidding anyways, i completely agree that games like Metroid and Zelda should have full voice acting with the exception of the main character.

I don't even like the fact that they have taken away Samus suit so much, to have her speak would makes matters even worse for me. I identify with the character not person behind it. Like Mike Mayers from Halloween, he is a shape a character and not a person. That's exactly what Link and Samus are. 2 kind of personalitys Will, curage etc.

Samus is well-established as an attractive (as attractive as pixels can be) female blonde, a description I don't think describes many gamers. I think she should speak. Link meanwhile basically looks like a regular kid but with some pointy ears. He shouldn't speak.

The current voice actor for Samus (Jennifer Hale) is pretty talented and she's been voiced in a number of games. Bastila in KotoR, Shepard in ME and a number of roles in MGS. She's more than qualified for a fully spoken Metroid game

Yeah, everyone seems to forget Metroid Fusion. However, if Link were to have dialog, I'd only accept it if he talked like Kenshin (of the Rurouni Kenshin manga/anime series) considering that they both have similar personality types (and they both kick ass with Butoujutsu).

I would prefer they stay mute, its really immersive for me. I suggest remaking this topic with a poll. They always give the characters voices for some actions and when they take hits so you know what they sound like, but they don't remove the immersion by speaking for you.

FFX's voice acting is terrible. Still, I guess it was a move in the right direction for the series.
