It doesnt have to be Ninja Gaiden combat but i think the technology is there now to have a world the size of oblivion yet have a action combat system just like ninja gaiden.

Ryu upgrades his weapons and magic and learns new moves. Is it that much of a step to have a character explore a rich world like oblivion yet retain the fast action packed battles.

I just seen the new fable 2 video and the combat is so shallow compared to some other action games. Why not combine the genres. Imagine how much better Oblivion would have been.

Games like God of War have addictive battle systems why not bring them into RPG's yet keep all the other things that make RPG's great.

Just a thought, think we will ever get a game to combine these two types of game?

RPG makers have too balance skills and stats too start with.. That is definitly not an easy job, and 90% fails... Imagine adding a combat engine and also balancing that one, even the action games usually only turn out too have a few usefull moves, why would rpg makers suceed doing it better?

Well it all comes down too ambition.. And ambition is limited by money, nobody has infinite money im afraid...

I agree with you fullly.. I just have my doubts about the God of War part...

but lets say game genres need to be crossed...Take the best of the best put something fresh in itand make the Best game till the best game gets standard and so we can go on...

the combat in fable 2 is a year away from being done... and the devs said that all the moves you saw where the base moves... there are tons of different moves you can get as the game progresses... they have't even shown us the shooting parts yet...

If the combat is anything like Oblivion's then it really cannot compare to Ninja Gaiden.

i woudnt place any faith on fable 2, on the first game the developers hyped the game pretty much the same way they did on this one, said you would age, get scars, change appearance based on your play style(good/evil) age as the time passes, and it was all done, but in not a great way and it felt more like an action game then an actual rpg, a good game but by no means it was a good rpg, they also said it would be one of the greatest rpg's of all time, and well, its no where close that, combat was pretty dull aswell

It isn't it's turnbased combat, and I of which find it's battle system ridiculously over-rated.

Seriously though why would we want hack n slash in an RPG? the main focus of RPGs is character development not how easily you button mash combos and block ...

i was thinking about a game that has gears mechanics, only with a sword and bow and rpg elements, like you can slash with your sword at the the dragon or decide to press the left trigger and aim with your bow or spell like in geow.

and kingdom hearts is an action game with rpg elements...

Ninja gaiden isnt just hack and slash imo, you learn load of moves as the game goes on including many types of magic and weapons. But i picked that game just as an example.

I really cant see why we havnt got a game to combine the best of action and fantasy RPG's genres.

Well my point was, abilities grow in an RPG , I dont mean adding combos I mean thier overall effect on the enemy ...

The WitcherTRIED to do it a little but at the end oft he day its just mouse mashing.

I would fall in lovewith an RPG with Ninja Gaiden combat, though I wouldn't know how travelling in parties of 4 people would feel. Maybe a story-driven action adventure would be better off, but I am sure an RPG could do a good job if well implemented.

It wouldn't be an RPG if it had Ninja Gaiden combat. I think RPG players focus more on strategy than hand-eye coordination.

No amount of technology will ever make that work. Too few walls to make the gameplay any good.

But you don't button mash in Ninja Gaiden. If you did that you would die. The only game I can think of that has come close to what this guy is talking about is Tales of Symphonia.

It just hit me.

A combination of these 2 genres already exists ... its called ZELDA ................ mainly because:

You couldnt do action/skill based RPG without some sort of limitation on what you can fight, so in ZELDA's case they make road blocks ect ... which makes an open world effect but linear until its all accessible ... you grow in health/magic by obtaining it through actions ect.

Thats the closest you will get between an RPG/Hack n slash that works .

Balance is important in an RPG, yet they could do something like that which you said. I wouldn't care for it too much due to the different perspective, I prefer my WRPGs with 1st person combat. A JRPG with random battles/set battles with a NG combat system would be awesome though; The Tales series is the closest to accomplishing that.

I didn't say it was turn-based; that's fine with me if you find it overrated...don't really care.

It would play like Kingdom Hearts only harder. FF13 Versus is an Action Hack-N-Slash RPG aswell I think.

Oblivion isnt exactly a rich world either, it's just a huge forest with dungeons that look identical to eachother the only thing that differs are the towns and even those lack.... colour.

buddy your getting GOW and NG mixed up, Ninja gaiden takes skill to play hence why its not casual friendly, adding NG gameplay to a rpg would drasticlly deepen the combat system

Getting through some of the levels are tough enough. Imagine being stuck at a certain point in the game where you can't get past certain ninjas because your guard and/or evasion skill isn't strong enough. It would suck. You'd have to go back to an earlier part of the stage, and stand around blocking weaker foes' attacks. You can't fight back because it'll take longer.

Leave Action-Adventure games alone.

what....NG is hard but not to the point you can't go through a level (obliviously im talking about enemys not bosses)

anyways I know giving RPG action game combat systems may cause them to lose strategy, but in a way it would add strategy

I was saying the same thing, mass effect is the closest I've ever seen to decent combat in an rpg.
