2-D Fighting games FTW!! Guilty Gear, Street Fighter, and King of Fighters owns. Smash Brothers is really fun though >_>...aznfool07add hokuto no ken to that list(fist of the north star) i just got that game and its great :)
This is the way I see it:
Super Smash Bros. is to Mario Kart, as DOA is to Forza.

It's a brawler, like power stone. If you mean a Tekken kind of fighting game, no, it isn't. It's a party kind of fighting game. FUN game, too. The original SSB was great, and SSBM was okay too.osirisomeomi
Okay, these quotes are leading me to believe that it's because it doesn't involve a bunch of big burly dudes, half naked chicks and half-monsters bringing down each other's life bars.
It's a fighting game, plain and simple.

Yeah but you get what I mean. It's like someone comparing Mario Kart to Forza or something. I love SSB, it's the reason why I will purchase the Wii, but I just don't put it next to other fighting games like Street Fighter or Soul Calibur.

Realism Racing verusAlternate Racing type, they all belong in the main genre, they just got seperate subtypes.

Well dude that's my view on SSB, if you don';t agree then too bad really. I'm not bashing SSB, but I think you think that I am. In all seriousness, it's a game of it's own

I am confused, all I was pointing out there subtypes in a main game genre. Racing - Realism, Whatever catagory you would put Burnout/Motorstorm, games like Mario Kart and Jak one. That all I was saying.

The thing with Power Stone and other brawlers is that it neatly fits in that catagory while Smash is played both as a brawler and a hardcore 1v1 fighting game.
One thing is for sure, Smash is definitely not a traditional fighting game and there's nothing wrong with that.
