once a game looses its exclusivity, fanboys can no longer use it to justify their console of choiceBuryMebull****. I have a 360, can play Gears right now and its the best looking CONSOLE game to date. Sheep/Cows still cant play it. And NEITHER CAN HERMITS! Its still not out for PC, theres not even a release date lol
You buy systems for the exclusives. You bought a system to enjoy the titles it has and the exclusives it has over the competitors. If it no longer has exclusives, why get it over the competitors?

why get the competitors console when you can play it on your console also? it goes both ways.

Thus competitiors should strive to have the better hardware, online, and prices.

Yeah.... Thats the whole point. If you have a good gaming PC, why get a 360? For its exclusives. If you have a 360, why get a good gmaing PC? for its exclusives.

I have them both and enjoy games on both. :| That's a moot point.

But with less exclusives you wouldent be forced to buy more than one system. and the competitors would have to strive to beat each other, focusing on the quality of their systems and the low prices. meaning it would be good for us.

Ok, now you're getting in a pretty large shift in the market. Its arguable whether its good or bad.
If the companies focus mostly on competing hardware, and not the software end, then it starts to become similar to the PC hardware market. PC's can all play the same software. Theres no ATI or Nvidia specific games. But its hardware that makes the difference.
Hardware prices will have to go up since the competition is on the hardware and not by luring you in from exclusive titles. So either consumers pay more for the same hardware, or they get larger subsidies from game titles and it would increase the price of games - but atleast everyone can enjoy most titles.
Its hard to predict what will happen if that does become true. It might be better overall for everyone, but it further turns it into the PC market. I know a good amount of console gamers dont do PC gaming because they dislike the model of the PC market.

I always thought you bought systems to play games on. As long as the console you buy has the games you want to play, who cares, even it if does end up somewhere else. The fact that the 'System Wars' board even exists goes to show that fanboyism has gotten out of hand. Just enjoy what you have people!! To each their own.
Ijust look at the game and see where it's strengths are on each platform and get the best version of it. There are certain types of games I like on a particular platform. For instance I love PC FPSs I prefer to play them on a PC because I like the control scheme better. But that doesn't mean I'm going to wait a year to play Halo 3 because it's on a PC either.
I only play sports games on consoles, they just feel better to me than on the PC.
RTS/PC,
JRPG's/console
WRPGS/whatever version comes first..
ETC...
I have no problems finding games to play on the console or the PC, there are plenty of games for both.
It seems that here on system wars when a game loses its exclusivity its like it can no longer be played on the platform it was originally for. People need to start seeing loss of exclusives as either a good thing or just not a bad thing at all. So Gears is on the PC, as a gamer, not a company, this doesent effect me, i can still play it. So what if MGS4 where to go to the 360? how does this effect cows? they can still play the game. People here need to stop being such corperate b**ches and start being gamers again.FancyKetchup25
Ok, I'll explain why loss of exclusives are bad for gaming.
First, consoles are for games. Not for movies, not for surfing the webs, etc. It is to play games, and many people decides which consoles to buy based on games they want. Not having exclusive games already means there is less reason for you to buy that certain console system.
Meaning, if you have more exclusives, the more systems you will sell. The more system you sell, more companies makes games for you, meaning there are more exclusive games, more system sells, rinse and repeat.
Second, making a game exclusive means you can optimize the game to use most of the power of the system. Meaning better qualty games. Making it go multiplatform already limits the game because hardware construction of each systems are vastly different.
Third, making a port to another system costs time and money for game developers. Meaning instead of investing their time and money onto making next game, they end up spending large amount of money and effort just porting the game over to another system. Meaning less games being developed, which is bad for gamers.
This is why securing exclusive games are important for game companies and developers and for gamers as well.
I'm sorry, but exclusives have always and should always be a very important part of videogaming. Back in the 16 bit era, did anyone care about the hardware of the SNES, Genesis, or TG, no. It was about which games you could play: Mario vs. Sonic vs Bonk; Ff vs Phantasy Star vs Ys. Do you think most normal people give a flip about frame-rate.
Exclusives are what tip the scale to the point of saying, "I really want to play X game, guess I should go get Y system." Even most gamers that have multiple systems will probably have one system that they buy most of their multiplats for.
its important in that people buy a certain console for certain exclusives. Nintnedo Wii for well Nintendo franchises is a good example. 360 for those microsoft 360 exclusives and those exclusives it only shares with PC for gamers who only game on consoles. so the loss of an exclusive does hurt the purchase of a said console. IF mgs 4 goes to 360. I have no reason to buy PS3.
You don't understand the importance of exclusivity, do you?
The game will remain the same, but it will lose its IMPORTANCE in the console wars. It won't be a deciding factor anymore since you'll be able to play it on PC
And this also affects people that already have a X360 :
Exclusivity loss =>decreases the system's advantages over its competitors => less people buy it => more people buy competition consoles => less games for this system and less people online.
There you go, but I'm suspecting damage control
