Is it that IGN grades high or GS grades low

GOW3 IGN 9.3 GS 9

MLB: The Show IGN 8.9 GS 8

ME2 IGN 9.6 GS 9

Heavy Rain IGN 8.9 GS 8.5

What grading system in more relavent, because I own the Show, and it is much better than last year and it got an 8, which I totally disagree with

Do you thinkthat these games just arent goodor that they dished out a bunch of high scores last year and are making up for that

Thoughts?

Well for one GS uses .5 increments as opposed to IGNs .1 increments. That and scores are basically numbers pulled out of your ass.

IGN over rates a lot of games. A 9.0+ from them is taken with a grain of salt.

I like IGN because if they like a game, they give it a high score, if not it gets a low score.

I think it's because the games aren't all that great. I think being stricter is much better. Now an AAA game is one that is exceptional, rather than great.

Compared to what? Certainly not the industry average, which is well above IGN. If IGN gives a 9, they give a 9.5-10. Only comparison to be made is to sites like Eurogamer. Typically Gamespot is not that far from IGN.

I do agree that gamespot is incredibly strict lately with there scores it seems, but tbh with you I use giantbomb for most of my review purposes. there has not been a single game yetthat I have disagreed in the least with there score.

No. I think they are just being more wise. Last year they were handing out AAAs to games that didn't deserve it.

Probably because there are ALOT of big games coming out this year and if they keep giving 9 to most of the would probably hurt they're rep in reviewing and be hard for buyers to choose between games so they need to be as wise as possible in reviewing last year they gave AAA to alot of games it felt like AAA would just come up on the next upcoming big game and it started to seem 9/10 didn't seem to matter that much.

gs tends to review games late. They take their time and experience the whole thing. Early reviews tend to be overly generous. I think there are some shady dealings there too. Something like, the gaming company will give the reviewers who agree to be nice to the game play it first

i think its good most games get to high scores nowadays to the point where many peoples mindsets are if the game aint a 8.5+ it is a flop

though they tend to really score halo games to high:roll:

don't trust reviewers. gta 4 was hyped the greatest game of all time based on reviews, far from it (deserved and 8.0) ff13 seems to be getting universal hate, yet im really enjoying it. also uncharted 1 is my second favorite game this gen behind mgs4.

IGN tends to rate games too high. As for GS, I think it's because 2010 is looking to be an awesome year but this gen is almost 5 years old and standards have change. In other words, reviewers are harder to impress to give out another AAA-AAAA game.

I like that GS takes their time. Whenever I buy a game I usually go all "honeymoon" on it, but then it starts talking about children and starts putting on weight and I just dont want to be a part of that so I get burnt out on it and never want to touch it again.

i just don't like how long it takes gamespot to review games. but the low scores are due to the fact that gamespot reviewers have huge mangina's.

Haha well that's nice. Just like every other fanboy giving Halo a 10 and KZ2 a 1. It would be so much easier..

IGN utterly suck. 9s up the ass, for anything and everything. GS I think are too inconsistant with their reviews(ODST is a 9? Fire Emblem is a 6?), but still better than IGN.

Gamespot should never have switched to the .5 rating system. The .1 system is better in every way, i'll never understand why they did that :?

Gamespot should switch to a .2 system. Even if scores are arbitrary, it would make a reviewers review be able to reflect off of the score a bit more precise.

In all seriousness, no **** Sherlock. A review is supposed to be a journalist's view or opinion on a piece of media, therefor it is actually a opinion. However usually the reviewer backs up his own opinions with evidence and interpretation.

It depends they gave GoW 3 a 9.0 and yet also gave Dragon age a 9.0. Dragon Age looked like it came out in 2006 and had bad frame rates yet it got the same score as GOW 3 which controls were a bit too familiar. Really they cut up WKC about the dated graphics even tho it was actually a year old but let Dragon Age off the hook. You can tell when Game Spot lets a Fan Boy do an official review and Dragon Age is a good example, the reviewer was an obvious bioware fan boy. You can also tell when a hater does a review AVP and DI deserved higher than they got.

Gamespot is slowly but steadily returning to the full scale scoring system, meaning they actually rate games from 1 to 10 rather than 5-10, which means a 7 is still good by all means and not average. Anyone agree with me?

The reviewing standards are so flawed these days.
