In past generation the graphics were important because it opens new GAMEPLAY options, not because it looks "pretty." For example from the NES to the SNES the graphical change was so drastic, it created the possibility for many different sprites. Where as the NES could only have, at most, 100 different looking characters (not including color changes), the SNES could have 1000's. Obviously the PS1 and N64's graphical power enabled the creation of 3-D games, a HUGE jump. This idea is made apparent when we look at last gen. The PS2 did not win because of its graphics, and as you all know, was probably the least powerful. So, unless graphics can some how facilitate great gameplay changes, it's is not as necessary as it once was.Rollingstones7The big thing this gen is physics and how they could be implemented more effectively into puzzles and such. Good point though.
yeah but the ps2 didn't look like the ps1 like the wii looks like the gamecubemastershake575

You misunderstood me. I'm not saying that motion sensing is better than a controller, I'm saying that graphics are not important if they don't do anything but look good.Â

uhh, they are important. Look at people hyping the crap out of a junk game like LAIR. graphics are decent, the gameplay looks chunktastic. graphics blind people to the truth

I agree. I'm pretty happy with how the graphics were last-gen. Wii has mostly those graphics but the graphics ARE getting better. They look fine, and they play well. I don't need graphics to wow me to enjoy it, especially if they don't add much but look pretty. Don't get me wrong, I like good graphics, but I don't NEED amazing graphics.

My point exactly.Â

Although that may be true, power isnt just about graphics; its about physics, AI, animations, ect. All that are extremly important to games.
Agree. Graphics still matter but...
Graphics are having less and less importance to gaming as time goes on. Before, the advances were huge (2D -3D), but now it's just about giving things bloom, upping the resolution etc.Â
Of course graphics matter. Jaggies are an absolute annoyance at times. You can't just stop making progress on one part of the gaming platform just because you upped a new one. We'd still be in 2d if that wasn't the case. Nintendo is just making sure they have a nice niche to rest at, instead of dealing with heated competition. They're going to sell loads and loads, and that's what matters to them.
The Wii is an improvement in gfx, just not a big one. The jump from PS2 to PS3 is huge compared to the others.
Wii graphics do not look like GameCube, stop being ignorant people. Just look at the latest videos of Devy's Adventure, Super Mario Galaxy etc. these graphics could never get implented in a GameCube. Wii's graphics are not near Playstation 3/Xbox 360 level but they still look great.Phanrang

star wars rogue squadron and rebel strike still look better than any wii game we have seen and all the ones you just stated. Â Â

I still say RE4 looks better than anything released on the Wii.

Look at people ****ting on Lair. It's a "crap game" that isn't even released, amirite? Fanboys are the same species regardless of which flag they're waving. Get a clue, kthx.Â

And now the Wii version looks better than the GC version, Your point?[QUOTE="Phanrang"]Wii graphics do not look like GameCube, stop being ignorant people. Sad, but probably true. It's not Nintendo's fault though, it's lazy developers.
Mario Galaxy looks fantastic though. So does RE:UC and Dewy's Adventure.Â

thats a big miss conception about nex-gen, not only are we getting a huge boost in the visuals but were getting physics and animations never before seen in games.
Graphics do matter now, instead of expanding gameplay and increasing game options as they used to. They no help create an immersive experience, which is what every gamer wants.Raidea
What? Wich every gamer wants? Don't speak for everyone.
Â
Graphics are fine to me now. All I want is fun! PS3 games are really just the same but with better graphics. Wii is something new, and really much fun, the only reason I'm getting a Wii is because they barely mind about the graphics, they bring the fun!
