I think Gamespot has the least amount of WTF reviews in general for most people , but they still have their fair share of mishaps and poorly written reviews though.

Thats exactly what I was going to say. People who are regulars at IGN go by IGN's score, People at 1up go by 1ups score. So the reason why people here go by GS'sc score, is probably cuz they post here primarily. Thats just my opinion. Theres times when I agree with IGN's score more than GS. I just post here because it's free and their socred are failry accurate to me.

I use GameFAQS too but i guess they are connected.

Why is it more people care about GS's review than other sites? And no. I could care less what AC gets anywhere, i still love it.

GameSpot is one of the best sites for reviews, period.

GS may not get every review correct (what site does?), but at least GS doesn't hand out AAA scores like candy the way IGN and GameInformer do.

I agree with GS reviews, mostly. If they say a game is great, nine times out of ten Il'll think it's great also.

In my honest opinion, there isn't one website that managed to develop an accurate mechanism of reviewing games, not even gamespot, seems people are taking them for granted. Reviews could play a bigger role in the business, unfortunately, seems the guys at game reviews websites are not taking it seriously enough,

Soon .. you might know how its done properly ..

The reason they have the most creditability in my eyes is they are one of the last review sites that writes for the consumer and not the renter.

When I read a review I want the game to be evaluated of enjoyment based on someone who is buying the game, not someone who is shelling out five bucks to rent it. Most highly regarded games are AWESOME for three days, but what about after the rental period? still worth owning?

From some of the other review sites you would have no idea, most of it is written from someone who has played the game for the bare minimum amount of time, and in some cases not even to completion.

If a fanboy wants their consoles ego stoked go to IGN.

Yeah gamespot's review team are amazing... that Kevin Van Ord and the other bald guy.. (aaron something...) are great reviewers! they've been around for years and years! and their opinions on games are soo highly trustworthy... (sarcasm)

Face it, without Greg, GS lost a lot of its magic when it comes to reviews. Greg was the don of games reviewing, and people took his word as bible, without him --and with GS new review system --GS reviewsjust ain't the same and aren't as trustworthy as they once were.

On the upside though, it makes system wars look like an evenbigger joke of a forum, it always was, but now it's even more pathetic. This place used to almost mean something.

Really? I hate the guy.

I never buy a game based on a gamespot review. I watch a gametrailers review, and look at metacritic.

Gs is one of the best game sites around but its reviews are not as good as they used to be, the staff here is not of the calibur it was a few years ago and they seem too over the place on certain issues like when it comes to lack of multiplayer and similar gamerplay seemingly penalizing in some instances too much or too little. Don't get me wrong they are in my top 3 of most trusted reviews with ign and gamespy(much better written reviews than GS but the scores are out of whack sometimes whereas GS is off sometimes but not usuallyby much when it comes to score). The thing is they were my one and only source I used for reviews in the past because while hard you knew when they rated a game 8.0+ it will be a great game and not a waste of money unless you hated the genre(to also make my point the 7.0+ reviews were an indicationof a game you should buy if a fan of that genre). The only reason now why they are not my one and only source is they changed their review system to the .5 incriments really makes it too broad much like gamespy's 5 star system and now that they no longer have categories the basis for the score is no longer there and you are left to read the text which is the point of the review but the staff here have really gotten lazy with the reviews I mean none of their reviews are over 2 pages anymore and seem to have minor inaccuracies here and there nothing big but enough to drop them in my book.

They honestly need greg kasavin back he was the greatest reviewer ever....

nope

i am on this site for the sole reason that it has the best forums.

anyways, GS is very inconsistent.

in 1up's review of assassin's creed, they pointed out some things that gamespot seemed to completely IGNORE, while gamespot had no problem nitpicking every single part of r&c :FTOD

The only reason why I trust GS reviews is that they're very harsh on games, and that they expects games to reach a certain standard in order to be rated AAA. IGN seems to be too impressed, I only look at metacritics for the average score, but GS is the site for reviews.

Oops... sorry, sorry... I shoulda read the topic more closely - it says 'most highly re-GARDED', not most highly re... uh... JOKING! Just joking! No, but seriously, GS reviews are usually 'Spot On' if you'll pardon the pun... well, except for Two Worlds, but... umm... anyways... They might be regarded as being pretty tough, but then shouldn't they be? They are critics after all...

I'm going out on a limb here...but I'm guessing your a PS3 owner. I have to agree with the TC, I love that GS doesn't hand out AAA's as every other site does. I prefer the highly critical reviews. I can't trust a site that hands out AAA's so consistantly, at least with GS when you see 9.0, 9.5 or someday a new 10 you know it's going to be a great game.

I used to think gamespot was the best game reviewing site, then it started to lean towards console, greg kasavin left, staff screwed the scoring system, the only reviewer i trust now is jason ocampo, a real hardcore pc gamer.
