The reason I got into computer games at a young age was due to half-life. It felt so intense, so hard, and so thrilling that I was thrilled.

The reason half-life 2 fails to live up to expectation is because the weapons are bad. They dont just feel right. I hate how innacurate the smg is, and many of the weapons are just boring. I also feel there is no tension in the game, like in the first one you were in complete dark, and it was like a well plotted movies.

Why do you all feel it is not classic?

I just hated that they took away all the living alien weapons.

Gravity Gun anyone? that makes it a classic by itself...

And it did have a great deal of tension , especially first play through on medium. Raven Hold was a nightmare to go through, and there was a lot of tense moment from the beggining.

I agree to some extent. The weapons did "feel" odd.

I disagree. Half-Life 1 was good for its day, but playing it now, everything feels so constrained. You only get outside a few times and even then it's in a courtyard or narrow foot-path on a cliff-face. 95% of the game takes place in corridors or small rooms. Cut to Half-Life 2 where you are actually escaping from a city (and then going back into it), where most of the game takes place outdoors. The characters are more than just replaceable cookie-cutter NPCs and actually have a part in the story (Gordon gets saved by a chick, heh). EP1 was amazing with the interaction between Alex and Gordon. I never felt like I was baby-sitting NPCs as I did in the first Half-Life...I really felt that Alex was a integral part of the mission and not just a burden to look after. Half-Life 1 was great in the day and I'm really looking forward to Black Mesa, but Half-Life 2 is better by miles.

Weapons did seem a bit too generic and boring but the gravity gun was awesome.
