Why has 2008 been hyped as the big year for PS3 games?

Game Informer rated the top 25 games from E3. The top two were console exclusives to 360 Left for Dead and Gears of War2. And the top 6 games were all coming to Xbox 360. You had to go all the way down to #7 to find Little Big Planet. Resistance and Killzone were not even in the top 20! So why all the hype by Cows? MGS4 is great but more of a movie than a game. But beyond that where are all the Sony exclusives? It looks like another great year for Xbox360. Oh and there wasn't a Wii game in the top 10.

The reason why I think people said this was the year of the PS3 would be because of most of the games that released for the 360 up until Tales of Vesperia has flopped and MGS4 got a 10...

Other than that, I still think this is the year of both systems. Both are release AA-AAA quality games and have a reason for purchase :)

It's because alot of the games that cows were hyping got delayed til 2009. The 360 will take it again this year. Cows better start hyping the 2009 exclusives i guess.torontomapleafs

They've been hyping every year the year of PS3...

It seems to me that every year happens to be the year of the PS3.

I just see it as "another year of fun gaming from all consoles". 8)

Becuase MS usually keeps things low profile until a game is about to come out so people assume, "Its Jan and I haven't heard about any games for Nov... must mean there won't be a single game released on teh 360 for the second half of the year."

People are too used to the, "its 2008 and Sony announces games for 2011" to pick up the pattern though.

there is a difference though. in 2007,360s lineup basicly killed the ps3s. in 2008, even with ms announcing their games later on, the two lin-ups are still at least equal pretty much, and whichever is better can only come down to personal preference

Anyway, both consoles have an outstanding 2008 lineup. Just to name a few

PS3 (MGS4, LBP, SOCOM, R2)

360 (Gears 2, Banjoo 3, L4D, Fable 2)

i dont like game informer lol , they hate sony and nintendo lol its obvious thier 360 fans,

but heres the reason ,its called hype, and also they were just suprized at nintendo and its effort to get to the top and sony has never been able to out sell nintendo this gen , so far

the 360 is good but not as good as game informer wants us to believe it is,

the wii is not as bad as they definatelly claim it is,

I know. That's why I said "up until" ToV. There was indeed hype for it as well ;)

I have 4 games pre-ordered for PC, 4 pre-ordered for 360, and 1 pre-ordered for Wii, 0 pre-ordered for PS3. :) These are all 2008 games and yes I have all of these systems.

PS3's big games for the rest of 2008 are LBP, KZ2, and Resistance 2. I didn't much care for Resistance 1 and personally don't think R2 will take my time away from GeoW2. KZ2 has good graphics, but is the sequel to a game that got a 6.9, so where's the hype coming from? LBP looks cool but I dunno if I'll be rushing out on day 1 for a game that lets me design my own platformer levels, I mean it's a cool concept and maybe I'll pick it up eventually but I'm just not feeling that hype right now especially with games like Spore coming in a week.

Everytime i see Resistance 2 or Motorstorm put forward as killer aps i start to feel the vomit coming up into my throat seriously the first two were horrible games (well not so much Resistance that was decent at best). As the first two games i ever had on my PS3 they near enough turned me off buying anything from those developers ever again.

I know its just my opinion but i like to think i can be pretty subjective when it comes to games and sure i could see how Resistance could be passable for a shooter fan but besides graphics Motorstorm had no redeeming features.

The only games i see as potential killer apps this year for PS3 are LBP (personally looking forward to this) and Killzone 2 (could be a rival for Gears 2 on the 360).

Empty is exactly the right word for it, when i played it it felt like i was back in the arcade when Ridge Racer 1 and Daytona USA where big and it felt just like they did but not in a good nostalgiac "back to my teens" type of way but more of a horribly dated gameplay with a facelift kinda way.

See, I kinda feel the same way, except for the fact that I am a teen now.

I don't see the reason for the hype for it, but I know a few people who quite enjoyed that game.

I seriously only think it became a greatest hits because of the fact it was in a bundle.

The one that came with my 80gb bundle just sits on a shelf an collects dust after completeing the game.

Please you should not be so ignorant. just because YOU feel MGS4 is more of a movie than a game DOESNT mean its true or that we all feel the same way, and certainally the critics didnt. MGS4 is a great exclusive for PS3 and one that earned the highest score on GS to boot which you cant say of much games so dont toss it out soo easily.

Also Game Informers is also opinionated, i personally have the ability to make my own opinions about what game i feel is the top 08 games and do not need someone else to justify why, i hope you can do the same.
