I have both the PS3 and X360 and I'm loving it. I have the best of both worlds, but everytime in these boards people hate on each system. Just support your system of choice and if you have one or all three shoot better for you because you dont miss out on great games.

How can a console be too casual?? It is what you make of it. Just don't buy the casual games. There are loads of so called hardcore games for you insecure types.

I don't understand how a console can be too casual. Shouldn't hardcore gamers play all games. Isn't that what makes them hardcore?

I only give out hate for the Wii lately. I know a few people that for some reason bought one, and they rarely play them. One main reason, lack of games. The wii still has a very weak selection (larger quantity than ps3, but lower quality). The next reason i feel its a pos is the graphics. the wii's graphics are BARELY better than Xbox1 and Ps2. and they expect me to spend $250? and that's IF you can find one at the stores. It's just one big joke. hahaha

I like consoles, but nintendo has really lost my respect since they made the gamecube. They just keep getting themself into a corner of mediocracy. Hopefully next time they make something to get them back on top (like they were with the NES and then Super Nintendo)

Loads? Please post a list of hardcore games for the Wii. As for the exact definition of "loads", I would say twenty titles would suffice. Get to it.

You can't find their consoles in stores eh? Ever think that the reason for that is because they are always sold out? Did it ever occur to you that the Wii IS on top right now? Maybe not for the "hardcore gamers" but for the population in general?

Most people see the price is the lowest. Even though the Xbox360 bundle is a much better deal. The wii is selling for a profit for Nintendo. while the 360 is worth MORE than the $349 that they sell it for. The population in general thinks the Wii is a hot item. And they thought Bell Bottom Jeans were hot at one time too. The popularity of something like the wii just goes to show that people want what other people have and if something has low suplies. It's just disgusting what people are STILL RE-selling the Wii for on Ebay and Amazon.com. and yes i know it's hard to find in stores because its sold out. I see the price tags and the open spot. stores only get a few at a time, thats why they sell out. Nintendo is just not shipping enough to meet the demand. I dont agree with the demand is all.

Dragonball? Naruto? Don't make me laugh. Excite Truck? Smash Brothers? Too cartoony. Where's the Wii's answer to BioShock? Oblivion? Mass Effect? Gran Turismo? Unreal Tournament? Those are hardcore titles.

Particularly noticable is the lack of anything like BioShock. Real life doesn't have happy endings; I prefer games that reflect that, not cartoons.

I count maybe, just maybe 9 solid titles in there. And that might be a stretch. Sad sad sad.

Since when do games have to look realistic to be hardcore?? Have you even played a smash brothers game??

Games are supposed to be away of enjoying yourself and escaping everyday life not to simulate it.

What did you do in the 8 bit days when games didn't look realistic?

Dealt with what I had until something better came along. Wolf3D looked cartoony, but Doom fixed that through much-improved lighting (or the lack thereof). At the same time, System Shock came out with a much better story and deeper gameplay.

As for Smash Bros., I have no interest. I don't like fighting games, and as I said, it looks too cartoony - I prefer something a little more dark. Halo is about as bright and cheery as I can enjoy, and it's really just a somewhat happier version of Aliens, one of my favorite movies.

Oh, and to the post above mine: I'm 27. You might want to try coming up with an actual argument instead of baseless assumptions.

I really recommend to check out Smash Bros., it's ton of fun. Games aren't about being dark and grim. Of course that can be great too, but the main point of gaming is to have fun. What's wrong with cartoony graphics as long as it's fun? I don't naturally like most cartoons, because they are done for kids and are plain stupid. On the other hand some cartoons like Hayao Miyazaki's work are still really close to my heart. There's no reason to not play something just because it looks too cartoony. Graphics don't make games.

I agree wtih ya, about not every game needs to be dark and grim, what's wrong with a game being ""Cartoony""?? Like a game has to be real as possible? but graphics is easy on the eyes :) . and I enjoy Smash bros, I'm still playing SSBM, can't wait for SSBB, come's out Feb. right?

It's more a question of tone than graphics. Right from the start, BioShock hits you with the impression that this is most certainly not a happy place. There are protest signs scattered around the bathysphere exit. The place is beyond repair, and the only thing that works is the creepy record of "Beyond the Sea". The mother splicer is crying over her dead baby. These people messed with their own bodies so much that they went insane.

That's the kind of story that sucks me in. Then there's the ethical dimension... in order to advance in the game, you have to kill the one thing that's not trying to kill you, that means you no harm, and will leave you alone if you'll only leave alone the little girl he's trying to protect. People talk about harvesting or saving the Little Sisters, but that's only half the decision.

Then why doesn't anyone? My argument isn't that it can't be done - it's that the people who are making games like that are making them for the 360, PS3, and PC. This crowd of "new gamers" that Nintendo's trying to attract aren't interested in that.

My post was up at 4:08. Yours went up at 4:28. It took you twenty minutes to type that?

He wasn't even a concept to his parents at the time.

He's one of the people I am talking about in my blog. (Read it, its true and you all know it)

Again, I'm 27. That would mean, during the 8-bit era, I was 6-11. Did you not read my post, or was the math just too hard for you?

LOL

I'm 27 also, and I know the "8bit era". My brother had an NES, it had alot of crappy games. But the PC back then was way better. We had way more fun on the computer than the NES. Also there were arcade games that were way better. But the 16-bit era (Genesis, tg16, and snes for you kids) is when home games on consoles got alot better if you ask me. "Realistic" is always relative when it comes to games. And the Wii is just relatively LESS realistic now because it is just not as powerfull as the 360 or the ps3. Why do Nintendorks (yes i made that word up) always find that so hard to believe? Some of us like more realistic games. Some of us are sick of mario and wish he would just get killed for once. Some of us dont want to play games that are made for teenagers and pre-teens. The fact is the Wii is for a large mass market. Ask grandma if she wants a wii and she will say yes. Hey, I admire Nintendo for making so much $ and having a console that is sold out (Still), but "Hardcore gamers" are on the PC, 360 ,or PS3. They dont consider the wii if a game is available on the PC, 360, and PS3.

and yeah thats funny that guy took 24 minutes to realize you're not some kid.

[QUOTE="fraz1776"]

What did you do in the 8 bit days when games didn't look realistic?

lowe0

27 and you still say, "omg teh kartoonie"? Vicious.

You challenged a person to bring you 20 "hardcore titles" and he responded with a list that could be debated (although most are fun games, which is all that matters to anyone sane). You almost were ahead of the game before you shot yourself in the foot. "Smash Bros? Too cartoony." So, you are dissing a hardcore game because of the artistic style. By doing that alone, you are taking yourself out of any "hardcore gamer" category that exists. You post about the artistic merit of the story of a game like Bioshock, yet you completely alienate other forms of art no matter how great the game is inside of it. So in one post you talk about advancing the diversity and artistic merit of a game, then in the next hinder it by restricting the graphic art style chosen. All in all, your game choices show me one thing, you want cartoony games masked by realistic graphics. If this wasn't the case, you sure as hell wouldn't play something as unrealistic as, oh, I don't know, most any video game ever created.

Yep. No one ever said opinions had to be logical. However, my point was that no one's making mature games (and by mature, I don't mean "more blood, more bewbz") for the Wii. I want to see the gaming equivalent of Fight Club (but please, not the actual Fight Club game... blech).

And a "cartoony" art direction doesn't necessarily reflect a lack of mature content - see A Scanner Darkly - but are you really telling me that Smash Brothers explores any mature themes, or that it's anything other than fan service smacking each other around?

I don't know of any game on the 360 other than Bioshock that really gets into something serious. Video games on the 360 are in general the equivalent of an average action movie. I've never seen Fight Club, but if I want some social commentary, I'd most certainly turn to movies over games as they're a million times better and more effective. I tend to seperate games and movies because there's just no comparison between the two, movies will win out pretty much every time.

Of course, there's some very interesting things from a mature mentality if you really think about it in a game like Super Mario Galaxy, it's pure fun and golden hearted. The letters from the princess say (something like) "Dear Mario, I am in a far away place, but I know I'm ok because you're coming to rescue me!" which to me sounds like something a kid would say, which I believe was intentionally put in because when you're playing the game, you're in the free as a bird, world is a great place, blah, blah mentality of a child, totally positive. Which, in reality is as good of a way to live as you can get, it's uplifting and a very interesting way to portray a game. Not to mention the storybook part of the game which talk about the new Princess being away from her family and how the lumines and her come together and make a wonderful place. Although there is nothing dark about these things, when delving deeper into them it can be compared to something mature in the sense you use. Even in parts where you have to race a Boo for a gold star and he gives it to you when you beat him, fulfilling his promise could be lumped into this. Honesty and going through with your word and all that good stuff.

Nihilism is the easy way out, in my mind (not to mention nihilism is a paradox to begin with) and is rather depressing. It may be slightly more realistic, but I don't see a need to focus on negative things in the world in a movie/game to make me realize the world is messed. Make me think positive using 100% clean content and I will give the game/movie/song way more props. And the smile I get when I play something like SMG or get drunk with my friends or do anything that gives me pleasure pretty much throws any nihilistic thoughts I'd have out the window. Life's too fun to focus on the stuff that sucks. Of course, I can agree that there's a place for this in art, I just think it's too overdone. At the end of the day, what does nihilism teach? Whereas a game like SMG at least tries to make a difference with the overall positivity, in my mind, nihilistic movies/games just seem to dwell in a river of ****. Sure, life kicks you in the jewels often enough, but to dwell on that, it just seems redundant.

But hey, there's a place for it all! I just wouldn't want to only deal with nihilism, killing, etc... in the art I enjoy. Sometimes you just gotta stop and smell the roses.

[QUOTE="lowe0"][QUOTE="fraz1776"]Just don't buy the casual games. There are loads of so called hardcore games for you insecure types.
lowe0

Loads? Please post a list of hardcore games for the Wii. As for the exact definition of "loads", I would say twenty titles would suffice. Get to it.

Heresafewreleaedandunreleasedthatmighttickleyourfancy.

Super Mario Galaxy

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock

Trauma Center: New Blood

Medal of Honor Heroes 2

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon

Battalion Wars 2

Geometry Wars: Galaxies

Guilty Gear XX Accent Core

Manhunt2

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

Prince of Persia Rival Swords

Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles

Metroid Prime 3

Tomb Raider: Anniversary

Excite Truck

NoMoreHeroes

SuperSmashBrothersBrawl

Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3

Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Okami

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers

Dragonball? Naruto? Don't make me laugh. Excite Truck? Smash Brothers? Too cartoony. Where's the Wii's answer to BioShock? Oblivion? Mass Effect? Gran Turismo? Unreal Tournament? Those are hardcore titles.

Particularly noticable is the lack of anything like BioShock. Real life doesn't have happy endings; I prefer games that reflect that, not cartoons.

Those are quite mainstream and casual friendly. How can you claim any of those as hardcore, but dismiss smash bros? YOu're just proving you know nothing about nintendo or wii games. In fact, what is a hardcore title? A game that is bloody and dark? But, those games attract the casual market. A hardcore game is made by a hardcore player, you're problem is that you have a very limited gaming taste.. if anything, this does not make you a devoted gamer.. you are not supporting creativity in the market.

Bioshock had a happy ending, unless you mean its two other super complex endings.. bioshocks endings were terrible, and the means to getting them were also dissapointing. I remember the game being hyped as to have deep moral choices.. you either saved every little sister and had the good one, or killed a single one and got a bad one(though if you killed all you got an extra scene).

The wii's answer to your "darker" or more realistic s tyle games: The legend of zelda: Twilight Princess, Manhunt 2, Resident evil 4 and Metroid Prime 3 Corruption.. to name a few that are already out. Games that are gruesome and bloody(games that get a mature rating, but are actually eaten up by the little children) are lacking on the wii; there are not many of them at all.. noone said the wii was perfect, or had the best library. But it certainly has a diverse and interesting one. The only interesting games are not those with big realistic guns and blood.. but the wii does have some mature titles. EDIT: Jeeze; i forgot to mention No More Heroes! There's another answer to your "bloody" games; though its not going to be as mainstream as the ones you seem to like.. none the less, its crazy, unique and bloody(in NA at least) and its coming out in february.

I think you need to check out zack and wiki and trauma center. Those games are hard, something the games you listed lack severly. (possibly excluding GT.. i don't care for those games, so i won't comment on it) They are also very unique; unieuq and hard games tend to attract hardcore players.

Talidude80

In response to your post where you highlighted a list of wii games that are interesting, and found only 8 or 9. You are living proof of why many masterpiece games go unnoticed. You are also evidence that users of other systems don't know jack about the ones they don't own. Zack and Wiki and Trauma Center(among others) are amazing games; and anyone who fails to recognize them obviously knows nothing about the wii library.
