Thanks, but I don't need it. This is just my opinion and is only for discussion.
I got my 360 because of the gaming library (and the games to come), and it's amazing abilities as a media hub, because I can watch all my movies, photos, and listen to music from my computer on my entertainment center via streaming.
"Very nice" said Borat.

I used to as well but I too got tired of upgrading and playing at my desk. I'm more of a couch gamer now and love the 360.

But I applaud you for making such a non-fanboy thread. There's far too few of those these days.

I don't think you know anything about Apple's computers. If you did, you would realize Crysis will run on any new Mac that doesn't have the integrated graphics card.

I was actually agreeing that Macs are find for gaming. Because the way I see it, you can boot in windows to play a game or something, and then when you're done, you can boot in MacOS X! That way you don't have to actually USE windows ;)

The 360 is definately a solid system but I'm more worried about the long term plans MS has instead of the short term.DaysAirlines
Bingo, Bingo, Bingo. What I've been yelling for the longest.
Agreed. I was going to buy the 499 PS3, but it was discontinued. Now I just screw Sony all together...because I dont have a choice. The 360 also has the type of games I like too...all with XBL of course.jfkunrendered
Just because they are discontinued (Sony quit producing them) doesn't mean you can't still buy one. Please ...you know this was just a weak excuse for your fanboyism and that you were never going to buy a $499 PS3.

I was...I still am. When a price drop comes. I just have to many other games I have to buy this year on the Wii and 360. Its going to cost me alot of money. I cant spare any on the PS3 right now...because the games aren't appealing to me right now. Why do you even have to say anything. Thats just my opinion. I like shooters, guess who has the best? Certainly not the PS3. I like platformers....obvious choice with the Wii.
Oh and the choice that MS doesn't give you, is if you want your 360 to break down or not. Because they all do at some point in their lives. :lol:AmnesiacxEntropy is a factor in all consoles, and gamers. My PS2 and PSP both broke. My Wii broke. My launch unit 360 is running like a champ, though.

Fact.
So I take it you have a 360 and a Media Center PC hooked up to your network? Because if you don't, you, like most PS3 fans, don't have the slightest idea what you can do with a 360 and a Media Center PC. One things for sure, you have no real basis for comparison, or you wouldn't have said 'fact.' The 360 does almost everthing a modded Xbox did, and then some.
I have 600GB of media on my computer. I can stream it wirelessly to my 360. I don't have to move files over to my 360... they already live on my computer and I can access them whenever I want. I can't really go into the details because of the rules of this site, but let's just say that it's above and beyond anything you can do with a PS3. And I know this, because I HAVE BOTH, hence, a legitimate basis for comparison.
As someone who owns both Blue Ray and HD-DVD (and a 1080p LCD TV,) I must say that the differences between the two formats are more about the quality of the print used to make the HD version and less to do with the format. Any quality differences beyond that aren't even perceptable, and the HD-DVD menu system has vastly superior GUI. You are towing Sony's company line here about the superiority of Blue Ray... as does anyone who comments on it's quality without comparing it to HD-DVD 1st hand.
Regarding WiFi... the overwhelming majority of users DO NOT WANT TO BUY WIFI!!! They appreciate paying less for their console and choosing to go wireless down the road, should they decide they want the feature. And you want to know something else? The wifi on the PS3 is about half as fast as the one for the 360. Don't ask me why... but a gb takes about 20-30 mins on the 360, and about double that on the PS3.
Did you know that the 360 has a web browser if you have a Media Center PC? I didn't think so. You know why nobody ever talks about it? Because browsing on your console, any console is a NOVELTY! I almost never do it, and when I do, I use my Wii because it's got far and away the best, most PC-like controls.
It's true... this is indisputable... the 360 doesn't support 7.1. I'll give you that. However, I don't have a 7.1 reciever, and I'm not exactly thrilled at the prospect of buying one and making my living room even more cluttered with additional wires. There's a law of diminishing returns at play here... It's not a feature that I am excited to take advantage of, and I'm sure a very small percentage of PS3 users have 8 speakers hooked up to their entertainment centers right now. Do you?
You mention a lack of SD and USB ports. Guess what? You don't need ports when your PC talks to your console. I can access anything I want instantly, without having to transfer anything physically.
You mention resolution. Well, although the PS3 XMB looks nice and sharp in 1080p, the games I've played have all been 720p. Sure there are some compelling games coming out that will support the higher res, but that's true for the 360 too. Tekken and flow DO look good though... but they're no Gears of War ;)
And finally, your knock on HDMI. I use VGA which is perceptually indistinguishable from HDMI, which I know because I HAVE BOTH AND CAN HONESTLY COMPARE THEM! This whole analog/digital argument is so preposterous... the only practical difference is that HDMI has copy protection, which Sony is having troubles with, btw. Sony's Website states that many brands of televisions are experiencing blinking effects due to handshake issues with HDCP, which they are frantically working on to patch. You are boasting about their copy protection.... nothing more. VGA looks indistinguishable from HDMI. You can tell yourself otherwise, but at it's core it's just cognitive dissonance getting the best of you.
Just because you have a cool sig doesn't mean you know what you're talking about. ;)

How about you Dynamo... you ever used a 360 hooked up to a network with a Media Center PC? Do you have ANY real basis for comparison here?
I know you guys want the PS3 to be more feature rich than the 360, because if it's not, then it's high price wasn't justified. Well, I'm sorry, but it's not as viable as either a gaming platform or an entertainment hub, and that's why it's not selling nearly as well as Sony expected. Just ask Kutaragi-san. It's no coincidence he just fell on his sword for the team.

AHAHAHAHAHA!!! Just becuz its long doesnt mean its good! j/k :P
But seriously! A lot of those reason were really long "well it may not be as good but if I use my uber setup then then kinda well no......but next topic!"
Fact is...if we wanna talk HDD's lets talk 750 monster drives used exclusively for the PS3...lets talk every feature out of the box with unmatchable quality.
With 360 YES...you can rig it up with a PC and have some nice features...but your payying for something on par in most areas...sub par in many others and better in very little (cuz I cant think of one reason except cartoon downloads)
I owned a 360 and YES..they are multimedia beasts. But the PS3 IS a multimedia MONSTER!! It's OS reflects this as it's designed for all things multimedia and is lagg free...something 360 is faaar from. The PS3 is also designed to be left on forever too(some ppl have left their PS3 on for days and a few for 3 weeks straight)...another feature commonly seen in multimedia devices like computers, ipods, zune, palm pilots, etc. Xbox....not so much...heck leave it on for 6 hours and you may aswell buy a plot of dirt to bury it in a few weeks.
The brick? lol cheap shot i know...but what is that thing? A medieval weapon? That alone KILLS the very thought or idea of the very definition of streamline.
My Adriana's concur. ;)
well it may not be as good but if I use my uber setup then then kinda
I don't know WTF are you talking about. The only thing I ceded was the 7.1 thing. Do you even have 7.1 hooked up? If you do, then you have an uber setup as you put it. So don't fault me on for saying the 360 is better with Media Center and then in the same breath go on about how great it is to have a 7.1 reciever.
If we wanna talk HDD's lets talk 750 monster drives used exclusively for the PS3...lets talk every feature out of the box with unmatchable quality.
But I already have a PC with a hard drive. I don't have to buy an extra 750 monster drive in a seller's market, and if I did, I sure as hell wouldn't want it to be in FAT32. Why? Because you couldn't use it for anything other than the PS3... well that and maybe a 12 year old PC rockin' Windows 95.
With 360 YES...you can rig it up with a PC and have some nice features...but your paying for something on par in most areas...sub par in many others and better in very little (cuz I cant of one reason except cartoon downloads)
I didn't have to 'pay' for a PC to use with my 360... like 99% of the people on this forum, I already had one. And saying 'some areas' isn't terribly specific on your part. You make grandiose sweeping claims and fail to mention any specifics. And did you hear the CEO of Netflix signed on to the board at Microsoft? Gee, I wonder what that could mean for the future of the Live marketplace.
The PS3 IS a multimedia MONSTER!! It's OS reflects this as it's designed for all things multimedia and is lagg free...something 360 is faaar from. THe PS3 is also designed to be forever too...another feature commonly seen in multimedia devices like computers, ipods, zune, palm pilots, etc. Xbox....not so much...eck leave it on for 6 hours and you may aswell buy a plot of dirt to bury it in a few weeks.
lag? It takes literally a half second to bring up the guide sometimes, and you bring this up? That's about as significant as your brick remark... you're reaching here. Since you brought up the OS, lets talk about the merits of the two systems operating systems. The 360 guide lets you chat or monitor your friends and select music FROM YOUR PC, regarless of what you are doing at the time. How can the PS3 be a monster if you have to exit everything and go back to the XMB? Wanna hear some songs while you browse? Sony says 'No!' But they'll give you the 'feature' of exiting your app and listening to music so long as you don't want to do anything else! WOW! What an entertainment monster the PS3 is! It can't even walk and chew bubble gum at the same time.
And having owned a 360 you know better than to claim that it can't sustain being on for more than 6 hours. I routinely fall asleep watching HD movies or shows I've downloaded, and the 360 is on all night, and there are no problems. Your hyperbole costs you your credence.
The brick? lol cheap shot i know...but what is that thing? A medieval weapon? That alone KILLS the very thought or idea of the very definition of streamline.
I wouldn't know... the brick is under my entertainment system and I havn't seen it since the initial installation. That's a non-issue, and you know it.
I mean no disrepect here... I am just really, really surprised by people's remarks about the superiority of the PS3 from a feature perspective. I understand if people want to play MGS4 of FF13, but feature for feature, the 360 can do a whole lot more as a media extender, at least in my experiences *which can't be discussed here in their entirety, unfortunately*. I use the 360 as a part of my day to day life... and although I can appreciate that both consoles let you do this to an extent, I assert that most of the people who say "THE PS3 IS AN ENTERTAINMENT MONSTER!" never had a 360 working in conjunction with a Media Center PC, and therefore have no idea what they are comparing.
I bet you didn't know the 360 had a browser. Will you give me that?
The 360 is definately a solid system but I'm more worried about the long term plans MS has instead of the short term.DaysAirlines
Agreed,
i only picked up my PS3 after i saw BD was on 3 discs...and for motorstorm. Its like road rash xD all this game needs is some chains and crowbars and i have something awesome.

what long term plans ;)
Netflix's CEO just joined the Microsoft's board, suggesting some kind of deal with Marketplace and the Netflix Library, and this winter, Xbox pwners will have the option to ditch their cable services and get IPTV, which is going to be the most feature rich, high tech television service available.I aprpeciate the choice too. Although I have almost all the accessories (HD-DVD, WiFi, Wireless Headset, 120GB HD) I didn't have to pay for all of that up front, and was able to wait until I could afford what I wanted, when I wanted it. It's great. A fully tricked out 360 easily eclipses the 60GB PS3 feature-wise... if you have a media center PC, that is.LOL! Okay....NO![QUOTE="donalbane"][QUOTE="RickLemieux"]Microsoft gives me a choice. The Premium package is perfect for me, it comes with component cables which is the connection for my TV. It gives a me a hard drive for Demos, movies and game saves. My friend did not have the internet and was not interested in downloading. He just wanted to play games...so guess what, he bought the CORE and he loves it. Now if you are a technical person and someone who wants everything that the Elite has to offer, buy that one. I'm very happy with my purchase and have no complaints. Great games and a great online experience, what else could I ask for.NextGenNow

Boot Camp....so yeah, it is better.
w00t! Another smart one! And for the record, I was mainly a Mac gamer until I got my 360 (and my iMac was 5 years old ;) )
Yeah so you can install windows on overpriced Apple hardware. Makes sense. So your basically paying for 2 OS's, and overpriced hardware. You MAC users are REAL smart.

There wasn't a FACT in there. That was one big fanboy opinion.
