360 sales numbers have leveled out, and the PS3 is only growing stronger. The announcement of MGS5 and other great games will help it before the PS4 is announced. I wonder if the PS3 will stick with the power cell processor, or move on to something better. People will not trust the next Xbox because of all the RROD issues the Xbox had at launch. If anything, the next Xbox looks like it will be in the best position starting out next gen, at least based on the success of the 360.

There are 3 consoles, not two. :?
Why would the 360 die off any faster than the PS3, and why on earth would anyone think MS would just bail out of the industry? The XBox line is their avenue to living rooms, and that's been a goal for MS for almost two decades. If you see MS leave the console business, it's most likely because the industry has been rendered obsolete.
Then again the PS3 is also liable to drop functionality post-launch, and to enforce online passes for all games.
Though yes I'd hope they are more succesful than microsoft with all the bad stuff they introduced this gen.
In short I think for those who can afford it the nintendo + pc combo will be the ultimate gaming setup (if you buy 2 platforms).
Some will buy a 3rd platform, which will be a PS4.
If you only get 1 platform, you might get a PS4 or 720, depending on how well they do multiplats and what your friends have. If Sony can manage to deny MS a headstart this part of the audience might actually get a PS4 next generation.
The casuals who get 1 platform are likely to get a nintendo console, and maybe a PS4 or 720 in the long run or the other way around.
All in all yes I think Sony's console will be more succesful than this generation. And I think Nintendo and Microsoft won't be as succesful.
I also think PC gaming will be more succesful than this gen because of malpractices by console giants and gameprices.
And that is all pure speculation cause, what do we have to base all this on? Only experience, and through experience nobody could have seen for example the wii coming.

I had fun with some of the adult games, but generally speaking it's a kiddy console. Glad to know I'm in that age range.. how can a console be 'kiddy'? The console doesn't do ANYTHING but play software made for it. The Wii is no more a 'kiddy' console than the xbox, xbox 360, playstation 3,21... or any other game console made. This kind of thinking in the game industry is whats hurting it more than used sales ever could. btw, did the Wii make you mad bro?
I love my 360
I love my PS3
And I love Apple products, and RIP Steve Jobs.
But all 3 consoles WILL SURVIVE next gen :)
My money is on Wii U because:
A: It's the only announced system and it will probably have a headstart
B: Nintendo fans will get it for Mario 250
C: Causuals might get it for the BC to the Wii and because tablets are sooo cool ATM
I think PS4 will end the multi-console era. I think we will see Xbox 360 die out these next 2 years, and the PS3 take an even bigger lead into 2012 and 2013. Besides exclusives, there is no need for two consoles, and I think the PS4 will be off to such a head start over the Xbox 720(?), Microsoft will choose to let Sony take over consoles with the PS5. The PS4 has a lot going for it: Xbox 360's massive hardware failure, a long list of exclusives, brand loyalty, and free internet. I like both consoles, but I think Microsoft will bail out eventually. Too bad Steve Jobs isn't around to introduce an Apple console, because that thing would probably end up winning!!TheTruthHurts69Lol, "and the PS3 take an even bigger lead into 2012...". am I mistaken or hasn't the PS3 been riding last place for this whole gen? How can it have an even bigger lead when it hasn't even got A lead first lol. I mean, have PS3 fanboys really brainwashed themselves into thing the PS3 has won ANYTHING this gen. that delusional post like this is strange, at the very least. I used to think cows made them to piss people off...starting to think some believe this crap they spout now. the 360 has been awesome this gen, n looks to be getting better in the future. Why would it bail out when it helped knock down a titan and has its foot in the door firmly with only their 2nd console. The TC should edit "i think" out of his post n title and change it to, 'I hope...'.

I believe TC is refferring to the fact that PS3 sells more than 360 every single year since its on market, not to the fact that 360 still keeps slightly ahead in total sales thanks to its year head start.

...Except that isn't true. The PS3 has sold more in certain years and the 360 more in others.

Which is why I don't think we will see another PS or Xbox any time next year only because both are waiting on what the Wii U will be like, since simply adding HD into this generation is a little late. Certainly listening to Reggie Fil Ames with his, box ticking interviews after the E3 press conference screams of keeping up with the Joneses

... there are worlds between 720p and 1080p :S That aside, we only know about Nintendo next gen so unless Sony/Ms actually announce and show us the next consoles it's rather weird to chose the winner already :S
Lemme look in my crystal ball .... smoke......wohee.....whoheeeeeee......
I see .... I see..........MS will be first on the market and has money to spend , the 360 has made a nice profit for some time now and they made back most if not all of the money the lost on the original Xbox , MS is financially healthy and can go all in for next gen with a very powerfull system .The next Xbox will be the number one in overal sales , will have the best looking versions of popular multiplats and with further developed Kinect like controls will be the main choice for casual gamers .
Sony sunk all off the money they made with the PS2 in the PS3 and although are somewhat profitable now they will never get back what they invested , their next console will come not much later than the MS one and will be an upgraded PS3 like the Wii was to the Gamecube .
They will use an overclocked version off the same Cell design , more and faster ram and a better GPU but PS4 will still be less powerfull than the next Xbox by quite a margin .PS4 will be a succes in Japan although Japan interest will shift even more to handhelds and the PS4 will be the the nr 1 choice for hardcore traditional gamers over the world with lots of smaller dev support encouraged by Sony.
Wii-U will have a reasonable start but will get in trouble as soon as the competitors release their consoles , most 3th party devs wil soon abandon them and Nintendo's main interest will shove to handhelds .
Crystal ball .... out !

You got that backwards. 360 has been the only console to increases YoY sales in NA, it's actually had its best year this year which is the 6th year it's been on the market. Have no clue about how next-gen will pan out, but your data about current trends is way off.If anything, the next Xbox looks like it will be in the best position starting out next gen, at least based on the success of the 360.

It's way too soon to predict which of the next gen consoles will be the victor next gen or whether or not one of the console manufactures will bite the dust. First we only know anything concrete about the Wii U and are only starting to get rumors about the next Xbox. PS4 itself will likely launch in 2013 a full year behind Microsoft and more than a year behind the Wii U. This doesn't place PS4 in a good position for next gen with more of its western audience potentially absorbed by the next Xbox or Wii U and more of its eastern audience gained by the Wii U.
As far as who is in a better position coming next gen both Microsoft and Nintendo are in far superior positions than Sony. Microsoft bleed rather harshly this gen like Sony, but not the same extent and have been making profit on the Xbox brand for some time now. Nintendo lost mindshare with the core, but financially only Microsoft thanks to its large stream of revenue is as ready for next gen as Nintendo themselves.
PS4 winning the console wars is far from guarnteed nor do I believe that will be even a goal on Sony's part. Sony's strategy this coming gen is far more likely going to focus on preserving their current market and expanding into new markets. Sony's efforts practically are going to be defensive mainly trying to keep Nintendo and Microsoft from cannibalizing their market share.

Well I think that Thttruthhurts69 is a hardcore Littlebigplant fan,the most childish game of the gen.It is practically a toddlers game.Sackboy with his guns and bloods makes Nintendos maskot look as bad-ass as Batman and Master chief are.Littlebigplanet hardcoreness and its mature violent gameplay alone defines the PS3 as a toddlers machine of choice
.
With regards to Thethruthhurts69 delusion about Sony winning anything next-gen:
It is laughable, that cows have any confidence in Sony after this gen of last places and humiliating defeats.PS3 lost almost 100 million customers in comparison to previous gen and X360 on the other hand sold more than twice what its predecessor sold.PS3 is one of th biggest disappointments in history of videogames (well at least for its manufacture).PS3 is last place against a machine with initial hardware problems(rrod) and another machine with last gen graphics engine. That shows how strong the PS brand is.
PS handheld is also last place with its competitior having much inferior graphics and still having a lead of almost 100 million units.Even PS motion device is a last place flop in comparison to Kinect and the Wii-mote.Plus Sony added another legendary flop with the PSP GO.If Sony continue the tremendous form they have had for more than half a decade they are going to pull a Dreamcast with the PS Vita and the PS4.
Microsoft has the third parties,online-service,and the American core audience.Nintendo has its fans, the casuals and a new and innovatice device to interact with videogames.People need to remember, that PS1,2 were mainly succesful because of third parties:Customers bought a Sony console to play games such as Final Fantasy,GTA,Metal Gear,Devil May Cry,Tekken and since third parties are never royal Sony is struggling now,as its first party offerings are laughable and not attractive enough in comparison to Nintendo or third party games(Microsofts strength).Take third party out and Sony will wish to be half as succesful as the Dreamcast.Consequently the prediction for 2015 should be: R.I.P PS4 and PS Vita.
