Why I think Xbox One will have equivalent to better-looking games than the PS4.

  • GDDR5 has about 8-10x the latency as does DDR3 which basically means no matter how much bandwidth the PS4 has it will be worthless.
  • Xbox One is x86 and will be using the DirectX API so games will be simple to make.
  • The CPU inside the Xbox One can accelerate two cores to 3.2ghz. PS4 cannot do this.
  • Xbox One has 32mb of ESRAM, which allows for 100% performance hit free anti-aliasing, etc.
  • Console is specifically designed to offload heavy tasks to Microsofts Azure cloud service. Essentially unlimited performance.

What people don't understand is the PS4 is not more powerful than the Xbox One. DDR3 is much better than GDDR5 at literally everything but graphics and the gap isn't even a big one. But none of that matters because as usual the Xbox is going to be much easier to develop games for, just like the last two generations. This means developers will flock to the system.

The thing I'm most excited for, to be honest, is the cloud service. Xbox One will be able to offload complex tasks to the cloud and free up system resources. We are talking about games with almost an unlimited potential for visuals.

I gotta be honest man: RIP Sony

- GDDR5 has the same latency as DDR3 RAM. - DirectX has lower performance than OpenGL. Last we heard, it was a bitch to program for the Xbox ONE. - And the PS4 excels at GPGPU tasks without taking a hit to the graphical performance of the GPU. - And after using the eSRAM for pixel buffering, anti-aliasing and a few other post-processing effects, you're left with that slow DDR3 memory. GDDR5 has more bandwidth than the eSRAM throughout the entire memory pool. eSRAM is limited to 32 mb. Devs can use 32 mb of GDDR5 to emulate functions of the eSRAM (GG is using 39 mb for pixel buffering). - Keep believing that fairytale. Devs will target as many people as possible with their games. That alone makes Cloud-powered gaming unfeasible as a business standpoint.

Woah so you're telling me to believe you who still haven't played both consoles and instead the maker (AMD) of those two console?

AMD said PS4 had more power than Xbox One, more power = better graphic

Can you tell me 360 game that looks better than The Last of Us? You can't? Expect the same thing happened with PS4 and Xbox One.

I don't know about multiplatform title, maybe some titles are better on Xbone, some better than PS4

But if it about exclusives, I'm pretty sure we'll see PS4 exclusives will have better graphics than Xbone

You didn't factor in ESRAM. 10 MB EDRAM has supported 720p and just under 720p render targets. 1920x1080p is 2.25X over 1280x720p and 32 MB ESRAM is 4X of Xbox 360's 10 MB EDRAM.

What I think is going to be funny in about 3 months when these systems are out and in the publics hands and none of this speculation will mean a damn thing. Both sides will be having fun with their respective consoles. I myself am getting both at launch, so no worries here!!

What you don't understand is that what you typed in red is false. PS4 & X1 both have PC like architecture. Both are equally easy to develop for.

i agree with the Blog. Most of the threads started in SW should be blogged anyways, as it's nothing but someone's opinion.

This thread is terrible and not true at all. The easy to develop for part? Come on man!!! The Xbox One could do things that you are hoping for but not for your reasons.

I gotta be honest man: RIP Sony

lol @ all these fanboys responding. We already know you've made your decision but I'm taking the unbiased approach and being more on the neutral side.percech

That alone makes Cloud-powered gaming unfeasible as a business standpoint.PCGamingIsOver

1. False, higher clock cycles = higher latency, however its not no 8-10x as TC has stated,

2. Diretx 11 vs Opengl, dx causing a hit is false.

3. ESram does not work like that as long as the DDR3 supplys the needed data you will not just left with the DDR3, ESram is buffer for the system bus to feed what ever needs the data.

4. While the GDDR5 has more sustained bandwidth then ESram, however ESram  can read&write data 4x the speed of GDDR5. And no they can not emulate ESram on GDDR5.

6.Ya realtime cloud compute is a marketed PR BS.

"Why i think" is for blogs...

And the reasons you posted are just.... so wrong... all of them... really... ALL OF THEM...

From the latency to the DX to core speed to eSRAM to cloud.... its all wrong...

everythign he posted is actually correct. but he did leave off that X1 is getting 200+GB/s to the GPU and 30GB/s to the CPU all with low latency compared to the PS4 176 and 20 with 8-10x latency.
