I'm confused. Just because there is an inferior console that can't run the game, ps3 owners are going to have their game downgraded for the sake of this inferior console.

Last gen, I admit, the ps2 limited gta3's potential.. but this gen the 360 is going to be lowering the standard of all multiplat games just because they have to mirror both versions as "equal"..

people might use multiplat games like fear as an example of 360 outshining the ps3 counter-part but you have to remember it took some time for developers to grasp ps2's potential with titles like ff12, shadow of col, god of war1-2, and other later releases easily equaling graphics of the original xbox. Oblivion is already a great example of a developer really showing that a little time here and there will surely guarantee a better version.

I expect many other multiplats to follow such as Mercenaries 2 (which is using the ps3 as its primary console) and possibly Unreal 3 (though i doubt since epic has far more experience with the pc-friendly architecture of the 360.. but i ain't ruling out the possibilities).

360 fanboys are going to come with the same ol' argument of blu-ray and standardized hdd as unneccessary in the near future. however, the recent statements of r* are just signs of more developers speaking out against the limits emposed this gen by the 360.

We're already seeing complaints of limitations. We aren't even done with Year 2 yet of the console's lifespan. Not a good sign.

They said both DVD-9 and Blu-Ray has their ups and downs, can someone post a link?I remember them saying a bad thing about DVD-9 is the storage, but said Blu-Ray wasnt without its disadvantages also but didnt point out what was bad about it,Im thinking it has something to do with the read speed. But yeah, hopefully they can work around this somehow.

yup 360 is an awesome system imo. many people will view me as a sony fanboy. but the 360 just seems like a short-term investment. im pretty sure we will see a new xbox by 2010.

the investment becomes even shorter when you have the red rings poping up every few months.

it didnt limit. im trying to say if it was a xbox exclusive from ground up. we might have seen a slightly advanced game in terms of technicalities.

then again no1 really complained against gta3, just trying to point out.. the potential was there for even more. we all know that, im more on sony's side and i admit that.

Not that it's necessarily a bad thing.

I'm not a big fan of Sony's 10 yr idea either.

I think 4-5 years is a good timetable for new consoles to be released. Although we may see an earlier release if game developers continue to complain about limitations.

I absolutely love how cows are conveniently ignoring the part of the article where they say that both the 360 and PS3 are providing their fair share of challenges to develop for.

True. i feel 7 years is reasonable time table for this gen (for the ps3, that is). but hey, at least you know your 600 is well spent in the long-term aspect. of course not much is out now, but the next couple of months are looking great for sony with Home, warhawk, ninja gaiden, eye toy, lair, heavenly sword. all this in the next couple of months.

That's the developers problem and not mine. If Rockstar can come up with a game of the length and quality of Saints Row or better they will get my money, if they can't they won't. Anyway the 360 has plenty of power and 8.5 GB isn't exactly a small amount of space to work with. Saints Row was about 6 GB in size if memory serves correctly and Oblivion 4.5 GB. If not wasted 8.5 GB should be plenty.

the ps3 problem he did not talk about. most likely so all we can do is assume what the problem is. it could be anything, something very simple or trivial for that matter.  The 360 difficulties he actually mentioned.

i believe the ps3 difficulties is mostly to do with its complicated architecture to get around like sakaguchi stated "the ps3 is tricky" lol. if it were exclusive tho, all there recourses would be in ps3's direction and would have easier time developing.

Rockstar being a great dev is opinion, I personally cant stand them, what have they created? oh GTA? you mean the game where the basic concept is to run or drive for 5-10 minutes kill a hooker/deal some drugs/kill some guys/take some turf and then come back?

P.S: rockstar said they haven't figured out the riddle of dvd, and no HDD what happens if they figure out that riddle and the limitations disapear?

also r* created bully, warriors, table tennis (360 exclusive), manhunt.

the games all do pretty well in sales so you cant say they have no other games to their name.

what were the limitation that r* mentioned about the ps3?

once again he said they were having problems with both. however, he mentioned 360's problems. not ps3's

the ps3 problem could be anything for that matter, people could assume anything.

my guess is the tricky architecture that sakaguchi and others have mentioned about the ps3. then again that isn't a limitation.

I like Team Ninja's argument about PS3's architecture, I think it shows that good devs have no reason to complain about tricky architecture.

it is. then again if i buy somthing for 400+ you want a a larger library to choose from. the only way for that is to go the ps1 and ps2 route and last longer then the traditional 5 years which ensure many more games to come.

It's a good thing they are making a videogame rather than a virtual New York program. I imagine it would take more time and money than any developers has to replicate New York and even if it could be done it would probably big too big and unfocused to make a decent game.

Actually, he has a point. There are a lot of other larger land mass cities. In fact, LA and OKC are the biggest in terms of land mass or area. NYC is just on of the larger populated cities.

lol, gta4 takes place in nyc... i live in nyc. new yorkers know if you want to replicate this place your gonna need more then 9gigs to recreate it. all 5 boroughs? thats crazy, i just can't imagine it fitting on one disc to reach the games full potential.

It's a good thing they are making a videogame rather than a virtual New York program. I imagine it would take more time and money than any developers has to replicate New York and even if it could be done it would probably big too big and unfocused to make a decent game.

very true. but to catch the essence of the city, they are still going to need lots of space. i work around time square, and let me tell you to replicate even an ounce of that place... you get the picture.

the ps3 problem he did not talk about. most likely so all we can do is assume what the problem is. it could be anything, something very simple or trivial for that matter.

Kalias
well rockstar were the firstones to get ps3 dev kits before anyone on the planet, so im sure they worked around a lot of stuff a lng time ago, and the edge tools only make things much easier. so thats why i'd imagine they didnt mention that much about ps3.

A little time here and there? You mean more than a year? Hmm. And downgrading it? C'mon if it was that bad they'd put it on multiple discs and then thats the problem solved! And my last point; the PS2 was never equal even at full it wasn't as powerful as the Xbox, I prefered th PS2 but the Xbox definetly had more power.

Crystal ball? R* came out and said the 360 was limiting GTA4, and that DVD9 is causing problems.

[QUOTE="Sir_Graham"]That's the developers problem and not mine. If Rockstar can come up with a game of the length and quality of Saints Row or better they will get my money, if they can't they won't. Anyway the 360 has plenty of power and 8.5 GB isn't exactly a small amount of space to work with. Saints Row was about 6 GB in size if memory serves correctly and Oblivion 4.5 GB. and I've been to NYC and its not really that big you know, its just illusery big cause of all the very big buildings, and you'll need more then 9 gigs to recreate it? ok I guess Oblivions what 16 or so cities ment nothing and the massive ammounts of land between them filled with over what 400+ characters?

wow lol. forget it. im not going to reply to you anymore.

Actually, he has a point. There are a lot of other larger land mass cities. In fact, LA and OKC are the biggest in terms of land mass or area. NYC is just on of the larger populated cities.

NY is bulit upwards thats why, i live in LA and yeah it is big but there are only a handful of tall buildings and the main city is only around 3 million people, everything else is out farthur like san bernadino etc. NY is nothing but tall buildings from what ive seen and they said you can go into a lot of buldings in this game so yeah. NY is the biggest city in america for a reason.

Can you please elaborate this "limitation" you speak of. I have yet to find one. gnutux

DVD9 and slower processor. Don't bring up the GPUs, because the 360 only slightly beats the PS3. It wouldn't be a noticable difference.
