[QUOTE="salxis"][QUOTE="jyoung312"] Bingo that's exactly what I meant. Bioshock is also a much more satisfying game when you play w/o vita chambers. You have to use strategy in approaching enemies especially powerful ones like Big Daddies. Bioshock is a "thinking man's shooter" and not a mindless run-and-gun like MW2. Im_single

What thinking? :?, you throw down a couple of mini turrets, throw a bunch of trap bolts, proximity mines on the ground, purposely fail a hack to lure out the gun turrets, hack them, and shut the alarm down then you are set . Hell, once you get level 2 Winter Blast you are practically invincible or the plasmid that regenrate hp + eve while standing in water, you could spam plasmids with it. Yes I am playing it without Vita Chamber right now on hard

I actually LOL'd, but what you just used is something called "Strategy" and requires something called "Thought" something you just said BioShock has none of, what he meant was that you don't just run in a blast away, which is the exact opposite of your scenario, you obviously used planning, deception, and traps to kill your enemies; Not run and gun.

Well, for me strategies requires you to think way harder than that, in Bioshock all you have to do is spam all the trap ammos on the ground (i.e. blast away all your ammo, just with delayed impact :P) and you are set that really doesn't require much thinking. Yes I know I am being nit picky but the "planning" in Bioshock is as deep as a tower defense game where you don't even have to predict enemy movements.

Another thing is, this game doesn't require you to "defend" yourself, having instant healing health pack = you can brute force your way through this game without any consequences, since you get more than enough money to get through the game even on hard.

RTS: You got a low hp units, you either let gradually regenerate hp, use skills/spells to heal the unit, micromanage it and try to keep it alive or just sacrifice it. You need to make a decision based on limited resources.

FF 13: You get unimited "mana" in this one, and you can switch between healer/attacker/tank at will for most characters, you don't use any resources in this game, but there's an enrage timer to stop players from tutrtling and killing the boss, thus requiring you to think about when's the best time to use a specific team set-up.

See the difference? There's always a delay between choosing an attack move or a defense move, in Bioshock, you can do both of them simultaneously without any consequences.

These are my definition of strategy, it's by no means correct or a fact, simply my opinion, but I just felt saying that MW = played by brainless people insulting. Hey, you got to choose which one to shoot first, the one with a bazooka or the one with a sub machine gun

Change Bioshock's health system to regenerating health or the First Aid actually takes sometime to heal + could be interrupted by damage, now THAT would require a lot more planning and thinking.

I'm sorry that Bioshock actually takes some brains to play unlike MW2.

jyoung312

Quote for truth.

Bioshock and Bioshock 2 are my two favorite FPS games this generation. I wish more developers include even half the atmosphere, story Bioshock world does. The only other game that comes to mind is Half-Life.

Why do you force yourself to complete a game you do not enjoy? Unless you have a sadistic sense of self-inflicting torture or you're a completionist, I don't see why you just don't look up the spoilers for the first game.

I haven't played MW2, but how exactly do you need brains to play bioshock? As I recall all I did was shoot guys with a million billion bullets until they died, and occasionally used a plasmid when they did something retarded like jump in a pool or run around in a puddle of oil. And there was no penalty for dying so you could just mindlessly run at something until it died.

ever tried killing a big daddy without plasmids?

hard eh?

not like MW2 camp near a door with akimbo 1887 and win ahahhahaa

If you don't like it, you shouldn't play it. It's that simple.

jimkabrhel
Great advice. No one can ever say they don't like a game, because then they would look dumb. Quite obviously, they should never have played it in the first place!

The Atmosphere, the overall narrative, and the pacing for 2/3s of the game. It was awesome :)

For me BioShock did almost everything right. Incredible visual and sound design, with a great story and atmosphere and all that. But I just found the gameplay to be mediocre, and just dragged the rest of the game down with it. It's been a long, long time since I played it. I'm actually pondering about getting BS2 though.

I'm the same as you, I got Bioshock 2 last week though and it's a hell of a lot better, they really nailed the gameplay in this one. And the hacking minigames are streamlined A LOT, and the camera isn't as stupid. (Don't know if that bothered you as much as it bothered me)

Im forcing myself to play though part1 before I play Bioshock 2. The only cool thing about is hacking the flying gun machines and having 2 fight with you.

The story is OK. But its dumb how you put a gorilla in a scuba suit with a kid on its back. The guns are lame. Im sure there was a M16 back in 1959 but theres not. I cant be the only one who thinks this game is not any fun

sillaris

You know I agree with you %100 percent. It was just one big downward spiral for me. I'm not going to say I didn't think the firey water intro wasn't fantastic, but the play of the game is just extremely lackluster. Something about the controls not working right. The enemies grew extremely dull and boring. The game played like an on-rails shooter. Just something about the game kept it from feeling "grounded." Like you mentioned, the guns were lame. They were, but I felt they were lame not because of the gun itself, but because they felt really disconnected--as in it didn't feel like it was firing OR connecting with enemies. I guess part of that could be bad sound design, but go figure.

A lot of games this gen share the same problems, so maybe people have grown immune to them.

What aren't you liking about it exactly?

Silent-Hal

Can you say no imagination at all?

What he said. I think you're only person I've heard who thought the Big Daddies and Little Sisters were a DUMB idea.

Ya know I was glad to see something different for a change, but there are some people who don't have in them to see things just a little differently for once.

I didn't like it either, I thought the ammo/item hunting was soo stressfull not fun, the gunplay was horrid, the narrative was decent but I'd miss the story half the time cause it would be going on while I was fighting. Not my kind of game and I really thought it would be.

the m16 assault rifle was designed in 1957...however, even though the events of bioshock 1 take place in 1959, the city of rapture has been trapped in a time capsule since the 30's. hence the art deco design. i don't know why you feel the need to punish yourself. if you don't like the first bioshock, i can guarantee you won't like the 2nd one, either, as they are very similar games.

No way, Bioshock 2 is amazing. Better than the first, dare I say. I just finished it. The story wasnt AS good as the first, but the gameplay is better than ever. Awesome game. 9.0 worthy, in my opinion. :)
