Why is Dragon Age Origins rated so highly ?

I really don't understand...... I've been playing this for a while but now everytime I pop it in I get bored and put Final Fantasy 13 back in my PS3, maybe something is wrong with me ? :P I'm not sure, but I just wanted to ask you guys why you like it so much, because so far, ( I'm up to the castle where everyone is infected ) I'm not to thrilled with it.

High ratings + High sales should be enough to show that there is something to the game and it has a large following even if you don't particularly like it. I personally got tired of FFXIII because the voice acting was too melodramatic and the gameplay was non-stop fighting. But I can at least acknowledge its a good game even though I don't really like it.

I can see the appeal to a lot of people, but i personally didn't care for it. I might give it another shot when i have nothing else to play.

Simply not your type of game. I often wonder how a lot of games scor what they do and get so much praise, games like Mario Galaxy are just beyond boring to me, how it scored over a 7 confounds me.

The combat put me off, which is a shame really, because it is the sort of genre I would love. I'll try to give it another go though.

funny, i thought FF13 was an excellent cure for insomnia. truly a craptastically boring game. i could be high on crack and morphines and STILL be put to sleep by the boredom offered by FF13.

Its because you are playing it on a console, its meant to be played on a pc and was dumbed down for consoles.

I played it on PC and I don't know really. I thought the story was pretty bad before, but after playing FFXIII, it seems good by comparison. The combat is where it falls down to me. It's a pretty good game with good characters.

The combat is outdated garbage, the story is unoriginal and boring, and the game world is uninspiried and bland. So...beats me.

It really is a slow game. I do like it however for its atmosphere and just the overall gameplay. I guess it kind of takes patience for this type of game. Not saying you don't have it or anything. It has tested mine at points.

Yeah, Dragon Age didn't seem that impressive. Anyway, just because reviewers scored the game high, it doesn't necessarily mean that the game is good.

Dragon age is great, it is also extremely more of the same, and standard, that is the main flaw imo

I hated FF13 though, so DA would be a far better game for me, i would never put FF13 in my PS3 ever again myself

Yeah i got bored when i visited the second thingy out of the couple of thingies You can pick on the map... mages tower or so. I hated myself for quitting the game because i KNEW it was good. But i just couldn't bring up enough interest to keep playing.
And now there is this -for gamers very familiar- barrier. I would have to start a new game and then i would probably get bored even faster. So i hesitate at times... and then put the thought away again.

DA:O is rated so highly because it is awesome. Game is flat out addicting. On my 3rd playthrough right now immediately after finishing my 2nd.

I would have to go with this, I can see how it may just not be someones style, especially if they are accustomed to jRPGs, but I'm STILL exploring through the game as different classes, races, alignments, decisions... as you said, addicting!

Yeah it became boring to me as well which is a shame, I dunno, perhaps had it been much more open and a flowing world but something about the game just made it a bit like pulling teeth to keep going.

Not one of my favorite Bio rpg's thats for sure.

For me personally I think its because its a much more cohesive game, that is great story/dialogue( ok so its basically D&D but its done well) great combat great music etc. Where as FF13 is very uneven completly atrocious story horrible characters/dialogue, really good gamplay great graphics. Ive played DA 3 times already and will probably repaly it again. But FF13 ive played once and that was a chore in itself.. very disappointing game :cry:

DA Origins knew exactly the crowd it was playing to and nailed the genre. This is my opinion by the way.

I just never thought an opinion would differ so greatly. I can honestly not think of one thing i like about Mario Galaxy. It's ugly, shallow, and just not fun ...

well i love bionic commando but everyone else hates it, lol....so there's always those few games where either you're the only one who loves it or hates it

I found it boring also... Just couldnt get past the gameplay combat...Its so boring.

I prefer demon souls.

Sales don't really have anything to do with whether or not it's a "good" game, rating doesn't really matter either. It's a Bioware game, of course it's going to sell well. It's just unfortunate that Bioware has been making the same game over and over again for most of their existence. The only thing I can really say that I enjoyed in Dragon Age were the Origin stories, some of them were really well executed, the rest of the game was just... bleh.
