The game was a complete and utter disgrace to the Epic name, i was a huge fan of the 1st and logged many hours into it, The fact that it recycled so much content from its predessesor and completely failed in story-telling, really pushed me over the edge on this one. I for one feel that the 360 library has a greater variety and quality than the PS3, but this game was a complete and utter mess. I would hope they manage to redeem themselves in the third installment.
Well... Gears 2 was pretty freaking great. I do agree however that it juts felt too similar in terms of gameplay. Cover refinements aside the gameplay was identical.

online hermit gamers disagree with you on the first one too. They scored the first one for multiplayer as the best online game eva, few weeks later it was one of the worst online games ever.
Because it's a great game. The general consensus says that, so it seems the professionals agree. You don't like it, then move along. Mind you, I much prefer SP over MP, so that may have something to do with it.
I totally preferred the first gears of war (single player) to the second.
Too much walking around with nothing happening/pressing buttons. Also, too many vehicle - flying - etc type parts (won't go into detail cos of spoilers.)
Last boss was pointless also. Story was unsatisfying
Game just didn't "feel" as good as Gears 1.
I played though Gears 1 several times but I doubt I will play though Gears 2 again for a long time..... if ever.

I think most of them fell for them bullshots with 16xaa running off Cliff's PC, lol.

I agree. I can see a great deal of changes with Gears 2, and I also believe that its better than R2. Thats my opinion, If most think that Gears 2 is a total failure and its not a great game...well, thats kinda their opinion. I enjoy it, Im sure a great deal of gamers enjoy it.
me no liklely gears 2 all that much. i expected a decent improvent over teh first one which was great. all i got was basically gears 1 with a couple of extra moves thrown in a story that got even worse imo and MP that still isn't all that satisfing. the story was the biggest letdown imo cause epic had me going that it was going to be a big improvement over the first. horde was great but gets really old after the tenth or so time

What was SOOOOO terrible about Gears 2 and what was SOOOO great about the first Gears? Gears 2 had a better and longer single player, I don't care about the multiplayer for either one since I just rented both games but when I did try the multiplayer...I noticed no distinct difference. Nice exaggeration though.

Wow, you're the first person who has the same opinion as I do. Everytime I talk about the useless plot points, and how they're never explained in Gears 2, all I get are people telling me that "it'll be in the sequel, so stop complaining". They never talk about the Lambent or the Sires after the acts they're in, which was stupid. Besides, I found the story in 2 to be a little too much like Halo's story.

But seriously GeOW 2 was kinda overrated. It shipped with crappy, broken, unbalanced, laggy lagfest MP and and an average story compared to GeOW 1 whilst they were a large amount of recyled stuff from the 1st one(levels/weapons etc)...wow... mmmm.... with a newer coat of paint.

Multiplayer is so much better after the patch now, but still EPIC failed with that, the damage has already been done and no matter how much damage control they or anyone does I will still remember that the MP was nearly unplayable and they put out a $10 map pack before a patch.

Gears of War 2's multiplayer is much better than Gears of War 1's. Not only are there more game modes in 2 like horde, but past game mods have been more thought out. The weapons have been far more balanced than Gears of War 1's were in most matches it turned into a shotgun only match, the game has also reduced the extreme host advantage.
1- Gears of War 1 was so much more pathetic...to be quite honest Gears of War 2 was much better 2- Gears of War was always slightly overrated for its MP...it was solid but never anything special in anyway 3- Gears of War 2 is still a good game and so is Gears of War 1 so why shouldn't it be mentioned 4- Many games can be blamed for some big flaws such as Resistance 2, Little Big Planet, MGS 4, etc This rule isn't only exclusive to Gears of War 2.

I really didnt care for Gears 2 much. When I first played the campaign, I was really riding the hype train... after I beat it, and played the MP, and my true feelings of the game sat in... I was really, really disappointed. It wasnt until Epic decided to release a $10 map pack less than a month after the game's launch that I decided to sell the game. I logged so many hours on the first game, and they're going to botch the MP in the second game have the audacity to sell me maps that probably could have launched on the disc just a month before?

It was amazing, AAA, absolutely amazing game. :D The MP is so much better than the first one, with Horde Mode and Wingman. Sorry you weren't able to enjoy it as much as the majority of people. :(
Who would like Gears 1 MP better then Gears 2? It was mainly shotgun fighting and gay host advantage in the first. Gears 2 surpasses Gears 1 in all aspects, single player was longer and more detailed, Graphics just about the best on a console so far, and the Mp is more fair and balanced. The only problem with gears 2 now is its ranking system, takes forever to rank up.
i must disagree, i think just about the whole damn game is awsome, while the online system leaves somthing to be desired. if you can gather a group of buddies its not as much of an issue, but still a hassle

Blah. yeah im getting that alot :P i guess i just never was into Gears of War 1....i stopped playing right after the Halo 3 Beta...and then played Gears 1 sparingly ....I do think that the annoying parts of Gears 2 are -The Shotgun is TOO WEAK -The Chainsaw is Too Beast Also i am still mad that the Boom Shot isn't back to Pre Updated Gears of War 1 form...Before the first couple of patches, the Boom SHot was such an awesome weapon because it was difficult to get kills with...now you can be blind and get kills with it.
I think gears of war is a decent game, but they should just add a dedicated jump button, plus let you manually control the chainsaw, so it takes skills, add a dedicated crouch button get rid of gimmick cover system add a socom lean left or right .
