I never played Saints Row, but it can be argued that it only got popular because closely followed (or copied) GTAs formula, while being the first of it's kind on the next gen consoles. Everyone was sitting around waiting for a gangster, mission based, freeroam game to come out, and since GTA IV was far off at the time, SR kinda filled the waiting void.
In anycase, SR2 has a pretty solid crowd waiting for it, and the game itself look pretty cool. But honestly, rockstar INVENTED this genre, i dont think SR2 will top GTAIV.

becuase one thing the thing that made GTA fun in the first place isnt there anymore..and yes im talking about the rampage.people get bored of the story too easy and want to shake things up with a rampage...the reality in this game is soo much...you wont be standing long in mostly all of your rampages.with.without cheats,GTA games were made so you can stand on your own without always having to depend on cheats and just shoot whatever is pitted against you.now its just wave after wave that do alot of damage with no health or armour available to you unless you buy a hotdog(hoping he didnt run away after the gunshots) or drink soda.Saints row had a recovery system where you regenerate health when not taking damage for a period of time..Good call because once your all healed up, you can jump right back into the fight!although they made you indestructable in saints row,the fun was still there because it was you against the armed forces.
GTA IV is better than Saint's Row because of the story and the relationships you build with your in-game friends.

That's a good example, though I must admit, I think I like the reality better overall. (at least in this installation).
It's the presentation that makes GTA4 better.
GTA4 comes off as this pretty, elegant, refined work of art, whereas Saint's Rows comes off of something that is fun, but ultimately just another game with no real soul.
I mean, just compare the games visually. It's obvious which game's atmosphere was put together with more care.
When SR apologists go on about how SR is more fun because there's more crazy weapons and etc. they're just pointlessly quacking about their personal preference. (I know I am too to a fault, but there's no requirement that says a game has to have crazy weapons, but a game generally tries to build a compelling atmosphere)
GTA4 is a more polished product with much more poise and personality and it takes itself much more seriously. Saint's Row was merely a clone with some well-done gameplay mechanics.
The gunplay, the driving, the story, the characters, the city, the graphics, the physics, the soundtrack, the missions, the vehicles, and the multiplayer. That's all, though.

least you dont have to play as some contradicting Serbian guy...you can make your own character however you want...which is another point
GTA has barely any customization on the character(including clothes). When the mobile phone in the game has more customization than the character, your game has isssues.

There is no rule saying customization improves a game. No rule at all. That is merely your own criteria.
Let's please use some common ground here. I was personally glad that all that extraneous crap from San Andreas was tossed out.
I like my games tight and slick. And I loved the story in GTAIV and too much customization would have ruined it.
Saint's Row doesn't have much in the way of a story, so it can afford the customization aspects.

oh im sorry...did almost everyone that played san andreas NOT customize their cars?i know i sure as hell did along with ALOT of people out there.the rockstar forum even had floodgates of people dissapointed with the lack of customization.people mustve really loved the customization for PC since there was soo many mods for it.
GTA IV story wasnt even that great...the plot was just really lame and annoying!"COUSIN I DONT WANNA KILL ANYMORE!!NO MORE COUSIN!" " hey niko wanna go rob a bank and possibly kill people?""SURE PACKIE!LETS GO!!".im not even gonna rant about the ending to this.
Story was evidently not what sold Saints row now was it?
Saints Row does so much more yet it gets a lower score. Doesn't seem fair to me.lucas_kelly
it really isnt...but im glad that they did very well for their first time making a game like this

My point went right over your head.
Just because some people missed the customization doesn't mean it's neccesary for a great game. There was probably an equal number of us that found San Andreas somewhat messy in areas because of the throw-everything-at-the-wall-and-see-what-will stick approach.
Why do you think games with lots of features and games with less features can still get equally good scores? It's because games are for the most part rated on what they are trying to achieve and how well they achieve it. GTAIV wasn't going for tons of features and customization, it was going for a tight, streamlined cinematic experience.
And honestly, I really don't give even one-quarter of a **** what your opinion of the game's story is. It has no relevance. My point was that because GTA's story was such an important part of the experience, complete character customization would have been at odds with that.
You're trying to tout customization as some kind of standard criteria and it is a fallacy.

Games are not rated on how many features are packed into them. You are assuming this.

i like the tactic you use..the "disregard everything the other says because what you have to say is the truth".all you did the post before this one was state an opinion..for you to just rule out what i say is just garbage...keep in mind im not being biased..i actually did play both..they both have problems...but GTA IV is just way more polished.there...happy now?will you actually take what i say into consideration or will you just sit there with a smug look on your face thinking the same thing you did when you first entered this thread?
just let me know so i can know not to ever talk/respect whatever opinion you got.

You're still not getting the point. It doesn't matter what my personal preference is and is doesn't matter what yours is. You may love customization, but it is not a standard criteria, it just isn't. It would be more fair to GTAIV to base on it on how well it does what it is trying to achieve. Leaving out customization was not an action taken because of lack of money, time or effort, is was a design choice.
Basically, we gotta have some common ground here.
Also, why should I take your opinion about the story into consideration? I loved it, you didn't. How is that possibly going to change?
Also, how can you possibly know what look is on my face?
WHY?
Better presentation
Better city
Better voice acting
Better story
Better characters
Better overall experience (helicopters and boats FTW)
Saint's Row had a boring city, the humor was forced, the characters bland and the voice acting was average. But even with all of those things, what saved it was that the gameplay was actually pretty good. It was a good stand in for a GTA game.
I think GTA 4 is better than Saints Row 1, but i think Saints Row 2 will be better. I think everyone should go to the Saints Row home page and take a look at all the things they are adding to make the game more fun (destructible environments, new physics engine, more weapons, vehicles with weapons, etc)

take cover, heal by phone, and the older games did not have health regeneration, so your arguement makes no sense
