Why is GTAIV hated so much?

Now let me begin. This is not my favorite game of this gen MGS4 is but this game is hated so much. Why? It is a beautiful experience. People say GTA:Sa was better . SA was horrible the cars, character, plot they all were crap. GTAIV is underrated people are saying it is Repetitive. GTA4 is repetitive but so are 90% of the other games like:
Mario- all you do is platform
Gear- All you do is kill
Halo- All you do is kill

I mean life is repetitive. You wake up, eat, do something, work, and go back to sleep. GTA4 too $100 million to make the most expensive game made and people feel it is trash. It is an amazing game and people cannot see it's beauty. I mean people tried to compare it to Uncharted comon that is a joke.

GTA4 had a great plot, character, detail, and you could do so much. It was fixed from other GTA's.

BTW: I have a flame Shield and I will defend this game until I die.

i like it, but it wasnt what i expected. i guess that's my fault in the end, but the way everybody talked about it, i felt like i just had to get it. the story is great and that's the only reason i play it at all. screwing around is limited by police officers, and i dont feel like its sandbox at all.

the game is more like a playground. everything is set up for you and you have to go from one side of the playground to the next. sometimes you get to choose whether you want to go down the curly slide or the wavy slide but in the end, there isnt a whole lot of difference.

i bought the game expecting a sandbox, which implies you can mold the thing, cause its like sand or something..., but what i got was just the playground. its fun to screw around when friends are over, but in the end, i dont regret buying the game, but i do feel disappointed with it.

Haters will hate. Look at Halo, Crysis, Mario, etc....

So. Reviews don't always matter. I mean most of the people on the fourms said it was boring yet this game ended up my 3rd favorite game this gen.

Most people love bagging on what is popular. They also love throwing the term mediocre around for games like GTA IV and others that truly are nothing close to mediocre.

I had more fun with SA than i did with GTA4...SA was awsome..the story side missions...no stupid minigames, or stupid unexpected cell phone calls..what a stupid idea...

anyways it seem they Rode off hype..but at the same time downgraded from SA in terms of fun and original gameplay..they even removed the Semi RPG elements that i loved from SA..

But why is it hated by the community so much? Who knows, plenty of people jump on hate bandwagons with the sole reason being "Hey, everyone else is, why not?". Some might have legitimate criticisms (myself included, I'll list them if you want) but a lot of people hate for the sake of hating.

I just got it only played the beginning few missions...its gta...which is a great game and groundbreaking at one point...but today the advancements don't feel as groundbreaking like they changed the game or created a whole new genre which gta 3 did...

perhaps when i get farther i may experience somethign new but there is nothing groundbreaking besides shiner graphics to be honest

GTA 1, GTA 2, GTA 3, GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas, even PSP GTA hade more replayability then GTA 4.

I got bored fo the SP too. But one day I felt bored popped it in and it was funner than ever. If you playy the ga,e too much it seems boring stop it for a while and go back it will be fun.

IMO they all got boring after GTA3. It was nice, something new. Now each new one is just the same, no major mechanic changes etc.

Take IV for example.....now you can take cover! And personally, i find the graphics very mediocre, apart from the odd time at night (I'm a sucker for lighting)

GTA 1, GTA 2, GTA 3, GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas, even PSP GTA hade more replayability then GTA 4.

I'm going to get a review which will express my thoughts better.

Not even close. The previous GTA's didn't have half the replayability of GTA IV. I can understand that it's not your thing, but it does have more replayability.

Yeah, that could be a reason. When the game came out, I played it for a month, everyday on SP, but mostly on MP. I eventually started popping in the game and going straight to MP and I still do that now.

I'll just lay off the game for a week and see. I don't like having unfinished games :?

They surely did that, but bashers will continue to ignore. I think the cover system, over-the-shoulder camera, Euphoria physics, and so on, are much more important to the gameplay than a few added gadgets, but hey... that's just my opinion. I prefer quality over quantity. Gameplay comes first for me.

Pretty much standard things this gen with TPSs, and honestly they weren't improved upon, the over the shoulder view and cover system seemed so sluggish.
