Why is Halo 3 still so loved?

I have been playing Halo 3 and I just cant grasp why it's so loved. My cousin and I played through the story and online and it doesnt even come close to Resistance 2 or COD4. Halo 3 has a great community, great graphics and a great ranking system but it is boring. The online is so dull that it nearly puts me to sleep. When you play R2 and COD4 you are constanly fighting to survive. In Halo you are just walking around with no real stragety or intensity. It has alot of great features but the gameplay is crap. So why is it still loved and looked up to when we have much better games on the market?

Coming from a PS3 fanboy, your response doesn't surprise me.

I love how halo doesn't always use that survival tactic.  Personally, I would get bored with games like Gears 2 and R2 if thats all I had.  Halo 3 is addictive w/ friends and the halo universe is soo amazing for those who took the time and studied it. : )

It has good console multyplayer and co-op. But the single player falls flat if you ask me. Why this game scored 9.5 I will never know.

By the way this thread is not a diss to Halo 3. I just wanna know why this game is considered by some the god of shooters when in reality it's very boring? HALO series has only been loved for Online play. i think if you rate the game separately like story mode and online mode the 9/10 for online and 5/10 for campaign mode.mezzo20

I find some of those games you listed to be boring, but I don't try to force my opinion as some definitive truth. It's your preference, your opinion -- you don't like Halo 3. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it's bad or something. It's life. We live in a world of differences. We're not all the same. We all enjoy different things.

a game that needs to rely on another game to have a good story doesnt work. it was predictable, cheesy, not very dramatic or anything the defines a good story. some good shooters that have great stories are halo 1, MGS4, and bioshock.  youre right though, shooters for the most part have terrible stories, but i just think that halo 3 fits right in there in that category

Oh wow timesplitters? If you find that game fun I don't know how you can't find Halo 3 fun. Man timesplitters is seriously one of the most overrated FPS ever convieved. Just look at the FPS that came along with every Timesplitters iteration. I can't believe people even mention that game. Unbalanced weapons, characters, the works.

Halo 1 was gold. after that it was all downhill. but people play it just because it's halo. i can't argue, i loved halo 1 (and still do), but it hasn't changed much, while other games (e.g. Resistance, CoD) have evolved the genre. Rafinator

The same way you find COD4 and Resistence 2 fun, I find Halo 3 fun as well. The gameplay is fantastic, story is good but not great, online is superb, and the features are executed well.

It's fun playing Halo 3. What do you want us to say? Halo 3 can wipe our ***** that's why it's loved? It's really fun...

Because, even over a year later, it's still one of the best online multiplayer titles this generation?

Is it so hard to believe someone likes a different game then you. Why must there be some big huge deal behind someones own liking for a game.

Maybe to them its the best game in the world and they have not found a game to take its place yet.
