Why is It.... Everytime An NPC Joins You They Become Nerfed?

Everytime I play an RPG I end up fighting this powerful boss capable of decimating my whole team with one move, yet once they join my team its like they have amnesia and forget how to fight.

That happens in movies too!

The villain will be powerful enough to beat all the good guys.But if he becomes good too,he turns into weakling.

It also happens in cartoon shows.I used to watch a cartoon about transformers when I was small.When the decepticons joined forces with autobots to beat that huge robot that transformed into a planet,megatron lost all his power for some reason.

Having Holy and Shock at that point in the game was amazing.

Because it's a game and any character that could wipe out you and your crew would obviously have to be toned down if they joined your party?

Didnt happen in Half Life 2: Episode 1. In fact, Alyx was still way stronger an more accurate than you once she joined you.

They should probably find a way to have NPC characters feel powerful along with your own, rather than a hindrance.

So that they won't steal main character's (player's) spotlight. : P Plus like everyone else said, for gameplay purposes.

Not sure if it's a good thing or not... But I probably prefer it that way.

Exactly what I was thinking. Or once they join your party enemies become stronger and you get do enjoy the godlike powers.

Haha. This is like a Seinfeld style observational joke. XD

I know you didn't mean it like a joke, but I remember so many times that same thing happening. Certainly, it's a big flaw in the old JRPG'S I used to play. 

The answer is obvious...you become a total pu**y when you are good and a total bad azz when you are bad!

Do you really want that mini-boss henchmen in the first hour of an rpg to join your party and one-shot everything until you're 30 hours in the game?

what I hate the most is NPCs with  1% of your damage and infinte hp, they totally ruin the immersion.

Oh I've just killed Ultra Alien robot of mega doom, wow good job companion, you almost got that rat at 50% hp

When they nerfed Tyrael's damage early on in D3's life i wasnt a happy camper, he used to clear rooms for me, that crazy invincible SOB :P

what I hate the most is NPCs with  1% of your damage and infinte hp, they totally ruin the immersion.

Well, Tyrael forgot he was a member of the protoss for a short while.

But by act 3 he was back to full power which was the place i was talking about. :P

The character would be too OP for the game and having a character like that would defeat the purpose of having a challenge in an RPG. Simple as that. There is always some sort of thing like that in a game.shadowchronicle

DBZ is devoid of logic. They just wrote stuff almost randomly as it came to mind. Probably that's also the problem with these NPC's they lack a good story/script to explain why stuff is happening that way in the game. So in the end you end with a gimped ex-NPC for no reason whatsoever.

Well some games do not follow that logic.

I remember in Lunar Silver Star Story when you are lost in a forest a supporting character named Laike joins your party.

He is lvl 99 and rapes all the mobs.....although he only stays in your party for a short period of time.

Final Fantasy Aeons were EXTREMELY powerful and winning against bosses was virtually impossible without them. How were they nerfed? Youjimbo had that special move 'Zanmato" that would 1 hit kill any boss, regardless of their HP.
