Why is MGS so hyped?

I have played all three MGS games, and the first is the best by far. MGS4 looks to deviate even further from the tried and tested formula. I began to stop caring when MGS2 had pointlessly long cutscenes, and I stopped caring altogether after Snake Eater sucked.

How is Anything in this trailer Even remotely Tactile?

Are you kidding me? I mean I thought smg getting goty was crazy but this. MGS4 is the generally most promising looking game Ive seen since my friend told me about huxley and that was at least more then a year back. But I donno perhaps you have the inability to see awesomeness or something. I mean hell I consider my self mostly lemming but that game beats anything coming out for the 360 this year, pitty there aren't more high contendors on the PS3 but this game alone is making me considering getting a PS3 in the future and it takes one hell of a game to alone justify spending that amount of money on a single console purchase (well actually thats not true theres one around the price of the 360 now so :P)

I love the Patriots storyline and MGS 2 and 3, but I can see why someone would be turned off.

Metal Gear Solid unlike pretty much most other games is a love/hate experience (in that in playing it you love it or hate it). It's a genre and a method of making games that just doesn't appeal to everyone. It's really got nothing to do with intelligence, education or whether or not your a gamer, it's just preference.

I'd guess you fall into the hate catergory, which is fine, I wasn't really a fan of it either. But obviously it's being hyped people others did enjoy previous games and it comes from a talented developer. That and the PS3 library was thinner in 2007 than everyone expected, so each 2008 title has a little more pressure on it.

I haven't played 3 yet (but I have it just sitting there waiting to be played..)

But I enjoyed 1 and 2. granted 2 did kinda drag on, It was still fun, reguardless. MGS4 looks a lot more action-y, and I think it will definitely define the series, and secure MGS a spot in the gaming hall of fame as one of the greatest series of all time. It sounds pretty epic. I just hope it doesn't suffer from next-genitis, and turn out being like 7 hours long. I'm pretty sure it will have plenty of gameplay, but there is a smidge of worry there. Lets pray it doesn't get pushed back again -_-

Metal Gear Solid series has a love / hate relationship with many people. However, those who follow the story closely tend to be diehard fans of the series (jechtshot78 comes to mind). I never honestly knew how deep the game was until I attempted to follow the storyline myself (talking to fans and through Wikipedia).

It's one of those things you see in a lot of RPGs - some people hate the text, story, and character development and just want the character growth and combat - others love the lore. I haven't played enough MGS to honestly say, but from what I've read the story is worthwhile if you can follow it.

Why is it hyped?

1. Look at it.

2. Its hyped here by videogame fanatics. Gamers who have followed the series for a decade (or two if you count the original metal gear and its sequel). And unlike the Zeldas, Final Fantasys, and Marios, this series actually has a single continuing story. MGS fans are eagerly waiting to get to the end and see how everything is resolved, all questions answered.

3. Its the first MGS of a new console generation. Thats a huge deal for a variety of reasons. One of them being that Snake Eater (or preferably Subsistence) was a return to form for the series, so the hopes for this one are high as well. As successful as MGS2 was, many fans of the series were disappointed and/or completely turned off by it. Raiden really did come close to killing the series.

4. Despite your opinion, if you check the MGS forum(s), you'll see that no clear "best" installment of the series exists. MGS3 is just as much enjoyed as the original, and there are a good amount of fans who like MGS2 the best (who the hell knows why). Because of this, the last installment might very well be the greatest.

5. MG online is returning. The second go around should improve upon the original in any number of ways.

MGS3 > MGS2 > MGS imo.

And I'm excited for MGSIV cause I love the series, as do many others, hence why it is "so hyped".

I would say MGS3>MGS>MGS2 Everything that sucks about the series is amplified in MGS2.
