Don't get me wrong, I like to use CoD4 and WaW for playing online but in most cases I perfer a good single player campaign mode over the online experience. Like I see people hoping the next generation is all MMO games... Which sounds dumb. Now this leads me to my reason for posting in system wars, wouldn't it be better to buy PS3 if you don't care about playing online that much? I just don't see the whole online thing, you go in, play a game against other people and have the option to plug in your headset... What more do I need? What is it that XBL has that makes it worth its price? Thats a serious question too, can someone explain the feature to me?

Well in my opinion, it's always more fun to play with friends, and Live has more options that allow you to communicate with your friends, like cross game chat and invites. Although you may not use these features, other people do and to them they are a nice addition. I hope I was able to clarify things for you.

I think Live is a little more community friendly... or so I hear. I don't know, I'm not an expert.

The only online gaming I've really done is Halo 2 for a short while, and then a couple bouts of Halo 3's online. Other than that, I've just recently started playing Resistance 2 and LittleBigPlanet online, and thinking that if I pick up Killzone 2 I'll play that as well. And I'm not the biggest fan of WoW which has given me a slight bias agaisnt MMORPGs.

So I'm a guy that much prefers a good singleplayer as well, though I'd be willing to change with the right games. :)

i agree man, i wish there were more single player games that are offline. i think it sometimes gets really boring to be playing online (cod4, halo 3) lately i've been playing games that had great single player.

xbox live is only $50 a year. people pay for it for online playing. download things, play online, video chat (if u have a webcam official xbox one), netflix stream, 8 person chat. really thats all that u pay for. it doesn't really seem good because players can still get lag it is a peer 2 peer play there is no dedicated servers.

Uhh..preference?

You seem to like singleplayer modes more. I much prefer competitive multiplayer (though only with regards to FPS games.)

OMG dude the answer is obvious... its because its fun to play with human players. the aspect of competition alone is worth going online. and MMO sounds pretty cool as well. imagine a Bleach MMO. where you get to explore Soul socierty with other players online? but yeah for me playing against other ppl is just too much fun.

Playing with friends in the same room all together is the best gaming experience anyone could ever have, it is way better than playing online with pseudo-friends, so I too think online multi-player is very, very over-rated.

I play online only in CoD:W@W and halo 3 on my 360 I enjoy a nice single player experience more then a MP session. Online is overrated IMO and sometimes ruins the experience of a GREAT game (GTA4,COD4,Gears2)

I don't like online games. Gameplay and re-play value is more important and fun than getting owned by a loser person that plays online everyday for 12 hours.

Yes! Super competitive games where people are cursing at each other over little things annoys the hell out of me. I play to have fun, not some a-hole 15 year old yelling at me to do something right next time or I will get kicked. I say shove it up your ass and let me play the damn game without having to hear your damn voice every 5 seconds. Things like that make me give the nod to a good SP over MP.

If I want a single player, story-driven game I'll play an RPG or an action/adventure title.

If I just want to shoot or fight opponents, I'll always chose playin against a real person rather than AI.

To put it plain and simple. XBL and NXE provides a community friendly experience that brings gamers together. A great deal of the features that the 360 has are community friendly. Getting a party of friends together, watching Netflix together, Creating avatars and reading bio's etc.

If It was not important or good features...you wouldnt see all three consoles using each others Ideas. 360 has the Wii like avatars that they started on the Nintendo console, and you have the PS3 trying to get stuff like photo party and in game xmb like the 360. Say what you must, but I like to get as much as I can from online service and I dont mind paying for it...if its good. I would rather pay for something thats really great and enjoy the experience for what its worth. I wouldnt and DONT like that PSN is lacking and eventhough its free...that doesnt mean that its good. Its bare, it has nothing compaired to XBL.

That's My opinion though.

That's one reason why I prefer a good singleplayer over good multiplayer. It actually feels like I'm doing something or making progress.

Sure, competition and honing your skills is great, but very rarely in a ranked online match do I feel the satisfaction I get after beating a game with a good story. I had traveled far and wide to defeat some great evil, grown to love the characters, and I know there is an ending coming, albeit the ending might leave room for a sequel.

I beat Prince of Persia in under 12 hours yet seeing the story all the way through and seeing the ending that I thought was terrific was 12 hours well spent and more fun than any of the matches of Resistance 2 I had been in over the weekend (and here is where the people who want to can take a shot at R2).

I'm not trying to sway your opinion and I know you were speaking in your opinion, but I thought I would shed some light on another perspective. :)

Agreed that no matter how many hours of MP I play on a game, the SP feels much satisfying to complete and accomplish than ranking up to level 60 in one game and then 1 year later having to do the same exact same thing in the sequel.

I'm an old school gamer and I like games that focus on Single Player more than Multiplayer. Here's the thing though, with the current gen..Multiplayer is important. It gives longevity to games. You can play a great game, end it....then play it for months after. Sometimes Years after (COD4). That's another reason why Online play is important. With one game you can get multiple game experiences. 1. Single Player 2. Co Op 3. Online Multiplayer 4. A New Story by way of DLC.

Im one of the few people who enjoyed Assassins Creed...the game was like a frizbee after I ended it. No DLC, NO multiplayer, no Co Op. C'mon.

Yeah, I prefer single player also. But it is fun to play L4D, Gears 2(horde) sometimes. As far as competitive I'll stick to karate and real sports.

To be honest, for fighting games, it's better to have a local community that meets up for tournaments frequently. These communities can then meet up and have bigger tournaments.

Also, Online is also bad for fighting games because there will be at least some frames of lag, and those few frams are often important. Why play with any bit of lag when you can just play frame-to-frame with someone sitting next to you? Online should only be a supplement to playing next to others.

Online play is horrible compared to local play. Go to a LAN party or a tournament, then go back to online, it sucks. But it's good for games that don't have the community to host those and people who can't attend them.

it isn't. sp games are so much better than 99% of online games. cod4 got old fast, death match after death match gets boring fast. the only reason to keep playing is for xp. games like fallout 3 offer so much more than any online shooter could ever dream to. if a games has a bad short sp mode and great only and is still $50 I wont buy it. but if a game has awesome sp and no or bad mp for $50 I will buy it. online is a waste and there are far to many clones.

mp gets old very fast. 30min and you have seen everything competitive mp games have to offer, plus most games are dead online after a month or so which leaves you with very few. a good sp campaign has lots of replay value.

but mp games have not much in the way of objectives. It gets old really fast. sure there are some that are decent with objectives, like counter strike but cod4 etc have no objectives worth mentioning. most of the time it's kill the whole team as many times as you can and it gets boring really fast.

this is exactly how I see it in sp you go somewhere do various things while in mp you just kill everyone as many times as you can in the tiny map. also when you die in most mp games you spaun straight away which just makes it a killing feast. counter strike has it much better where you don't respaun striaght away but have to wait till the next round which adds to felling you have achieved something but it is still nothing compared to playing half life.

xbox live is only $50 a year.iam2green

?????

If you've been paying for XBL since it first started in 2002, that's 8 years... that "only" $50 multiplies each year REALLY adding up.

That's a total of $400(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! **** THAT), you could buy 8 brand new games or a complete new console with that money.

You've officially spent $400 on something that 360's competitors(PC, PS3, Wii) all offer free of charge.

Keep pretending to yourself that voice chat and Netflix(which you only just started getting AND you have to pay for separately, so doesn't count) is worth $400. Sorry, we don't live in imaginationland Xbox fanboys. It's pretty much a scam by Microsoft any way you look at it.

Oh, you're so mature by insinuating that he is young. This may be a shocker but, no one gave a s*** about the original Xbox when compared to the PS2. So he may have very well just not owned an Xbox, and didn't know about the old, ugly looking, Xbox Live. And about the $400 thing. Since the best Xbox Live game came out in 2004, your argument doesn't really hold water. And even with that, I doubt that a lot of people started using Xbox Live before the 360 came out, considering the first console's sales. I personally prefer Multiplayer, because I always have an assortment of real friends to chat, play, etc. with. So when I get on during the weekend, we usually do Competitive in CoD: WaW, or I have a friend or two that prefer Co-Op, so we'd do that. And when we all lose interest, we go seperate ways, but still Party Chat so we don't have to hear any of the annoying people that tend to play XBL. At points like that, I pop in Fable 2 and try to make a bit more progress.

I think there needs to be a better balance between single-player, offline multiplayer, and online multiplayer. That way, you have a more balanced game.

Well, whether you think so or not, considering the fact that the original Xbox(as ugly as it was) sold in the dozens of millions if I remember correctly and I'm sure that there's thousands and thousands of people out there who have spent $400(or more...) on XBL alone, which is rediculous.

I'm not trying to say XBL is bad. The (steadily decreasing amount) of extra features on Live may be nice for some people and come in handy on certain games... but are likely useless to the everyday gamer and/or casuals that take up the majority of the market share.

The only thing that would possibly make XBL not seem like such a scam would be dedicated servers. If Microsoft actually implemented dedicated servers into Live so you get what you're paying for, then I'd probably be sold.

The lack of dedicated servers is the cause of the biggest and most important problems in online console gaming such as frequent and frustrating lag, random game crashes, hosts leaving mid-game, cheating, etc... so as long as XBL doesn't have dedicated servers it is in the same boat as PSN, uses the same faulty networking, and is HUNDREDS of dollars more(who plays their console for 1 year then stops? come on now...)

I see as a competitive nature that we all have and these games pretty much feed it to us in terms of online play.

both 360 and ps3 offer online games in most of the major franchises, and multiplats are all becoming online. I think if you don't care about online you should purchase a wii, as you get an n64, snes, nes and other consoles in one. Ps2 is another way to go. I'm sure you'd want to get the most out of a game, which includes playing online.

Playing with friends in the same room all together is the best gaming experience anyone could ever have, it is way better than playing online with pseudo-friends, so I too think online multi-player is very, very over-rated.Bigboi500
Actually playing online is at times better whats your problem with online gaming?

If playing with a room full of your friends is your thing, thats just your thing. I work evenings and I travel, plus I was in the military so I have a great deal of friends all over the states. I dont have to invite someone over to get a killer gaming experience...all I have to do is ask their gamertag and we can get it popping. Not only that, we can talk and watch movies together, I can show them pics of me at Mardi Gras (did that recently), and we can do all of that ANY time we want. I'm up 3 and 4 in the morning playing games at times..i'm not a fan of having friends over at then either. Plus look at it like this, you dont have to buy pizza, beer, drinks or nachos. Even better....you dont even have to clean up after your lazy friends.

On another note I enjoy madden, I'm pretty decent and I used to hate the fact that the person I'm playing can see what plays I'm "thinking" about selecting. It upgrades that experience by being on YOUR screen and hes on HIS screen. It makes gaming king IMO.
