Steam and XBL aren't the same thing. In fact, the only "Steam-like" features of XBL are free to anyone with a console. This makes as much sense as asking, "If Jessica Alba is hot, why does McDonalds outsell Burger King 2:1?"

XBL is a way for MS to milk the consumer, granted it's not much but it's the principal of the whole thing seeing they are paid a boatload of cash for the ads on XBL.

This is why PSN and PC gaming is still a free service.

Its not free. Why does every one think online games are free? When i was running a BF2 server it was costing me over $100 a month to run it. Yes i know that it does not cost you any thing to play in the servers but if no one paid there would be no online gameing.

So does Live, and it's all free to DL movies, games, demos, TV show, MV, trailers ALL FREE that's Silver Live

PCs had these kind of services free for years now. Charging for one is ludicris and will not make you any money, nor will people user your software.jangojay

Anyway, the reason why XBL costs money is because people will pay for it. Anyone who answers otherwise clearly failed economics.
