Because it has inferior visuals? If that's the only reason, I don't think it's fair to assume that the superior version is on the Wii U. If anything it could be the oppoiste.

We've seen 3 console Smash Bros before and a 4th one wouldn't be anything new. But portable Smash Bros would be entirely new and quality fighters on portable systems aren't nearly as common as consoles.

Being able to face people anywhere and carry the game anywhere, especially a multiplayer focused game, could make it much more accessible and viable than it's grounded counterpart.

I can easily concede that the Wii U version is better. But it would need to be for reasons other than "hurr durr, graphics!"

because local wifi is inferior to local play on a home system where there is no latency/lag.

Im still trying to wrap my head around using the circle pad to play.

in my head it wont feel as natural as using a real stick at least not when take into account the 3ds games that I've played. ( not to say the circle pad is bad)

They're probably thinking it'll be the inferior version because it's the handheld one, and if there's anything we've learned, it's that console versions of games are completely superior to handheld versions. Could be different for once, though.

Besides the inferior graphics, it has no local 4 player support for intense couch sessions. Both versions have online, but home consoles like the Wii U supporting four players LOCALLY per one system is the answer.

Did you not see the Nintendo Direct? The Wii U version obviously looks better. That doesn't mean though the 3DS version will be bad, hell it might be every bit as fun. Heck it might even sell better considering the install base of the 3DS compared to the Wii U. Saying the 3DS version is "inferior" is just a semantics issue, it has a connotation of poor quality. That's not really an issue though, it's simply the case that the Wii U version will probably be the better of the two qualitywise.

Can't use the Gamecube controller for the 3DS version, thus it is the inferior version.

I would say the controls and the visuals. Same reason Vita ports get so much hate. Fortunately the 3DS game doesn't look like a port exactly.

SSB got famous from those local couch sessions and now the TC got his answer. Many people will choose the new handheld offering of the series as you will and Nintendo knows this. However, in terms of visuals, I have to say that the 3DS looks far more impressive. I mean, the Wii U version looks better, but it's kind of what you'd expect an HD console version of Smash to look like. The 3DS, however, looks way better than what I would have expected from it.

there is always input lag on any device. The radio waves from wi fi move at the same speed as the controllers do which is around 300,000 Kilometres per second.

Also, to reiterate what everyone else has been saying: local co-op and controls is why the 3DS version is 'inferior.' Graphically it looks fine, though.

Controls? Not the same kind of LAN play experience? graphics? the 3ds is a pile of turd and feels like it too?

How is portability an advantage in a game primarily played in multiplayer? Unless you have a portable Wifi hotspot you're going to be playing against the AI only, which is fine but it's not the main draw of the game.

I own the 3DS and Wii U and the TC wanted to understand the perception of how the Wii U version of SSB was superior. I'm secure enough to tell you I see movies with my friends, I host BBQs, we do karoake, go swimming, see movies, travel, concerts, and play video games with my friends. It's a 50/50 mix men/women. Also, I agree with you and that display above was a comical parody response. If you look at my very first post, it's strange that I found myself here. With regards to the handheld version lacking local MP, that seems to be the biggest detractor to the general opinion of this product. As a lot of people seem to forget, SSB was popularized by local multiplayer and the handheld version simply doesn't offer that. More power to those that enjoy the 3DS version anyways, which is just dandy. I am not making judgements on their buying choices...just trying to answer a simple question. :)

That's right. It's not an opinion, it's simply the series strength and historically SSB thrived on local MP.

It's also why I suspect the handheld version is releasing first as Nintendo knows this. To each their own, honestly, it's just the main reason why people in general view the 3DS version as inferior.
