why is the ps3 doing so well in europe and asia but does not have that kind of traction in the US? are the libraries extremely different in other parts of the world, are gamers taste different in other parts of the world, is their marketing better in other parts of the world, are their better features for users in other parts of the world. Whats makes the US market so different?

Different cultures like different things. Its the same reason boxart is different from region to region. Cultural norms and appeal are different across the globe.

Well, from what I know the Japanese are prejudice against foreigners so maybe this applies to foreign products as well. (Not trying to sound racist here.)

Well technically they are doing well in NA recently since the price cut PS3 sales are very close to 360 sales so seems the only problem which PS3 used to have is the price.

Well maybe cause the Xbox 360 is an american product so americans probably wanna support it. There is no reason to buy a 360 over a PS3 in europe. We are more used to the playstation brand, so far it has always provided us top quality products so why would we change to the 360 for no reason?

Too bad Americans don't know that the PS3 can play imported games without another disc or hacking.

Because Sony tend to treat Europe the worst out of the 3 regions? Also, the 360 is still winning in the UK.

Microsoft's marketing in America is vicious. Also, Microsoft pays for ads for Modern Warfare 2, which was a definite system seller in America.

The us is much more open to new stuff, and much more closed minded to where it comes from. Also pretty much they'll buy whatever is popular.

Europeans see the 360 as a major US corporation trying to dominate the market.

The Japanese see foreign competition trying to edge out their local systems.

Pretty much. That's why the 360 is so popular here. People get one and get Xbox Live, then their friends get convinced to buy it and Live, and then their friends, and the cycle continues.

I've never heard anyone say that they bought the 360 instead of ps3 because it is american and I for sure didn't buy mine for that reason. I bought my 360 because I like Halo, Gears of War, Left 4 Dead, Fable, Dead Rising, Xbox Live, I also have bought a ps3 but sold it later because I only used it as a blue ray player and the exclusives weren't as enjoyable to me.

Well honestly, it kicked in Big Time for the Xbox last gen. I know we all like to laugh at the low 4 years of sales and the fact the Xbox lost over 5 billion dollars, but honestly, the Xbox did as well as it did due to the U.S. last generation.

That loyalty was there, and it was building.

The Xbox sold about 24 Million last gen, and the large majority of those was in the good ol' U. S. of A.

We all knew that last gen when we spoke about the Xbox. It was doing much better than it honestly should have when we look back at it's performance.

Its actually an interesting debate. They have their reasons, but its still not right. I look into that topic alot and its hard to pick a side because they both make some pretty good points.

On topic, skittles did a good sum-up. Hell, some people are buying it for a cheap B.R. player but looking into the games anyway, so it works out.

The truth is 360 and PS3 are probably pretty even right now, with 360 on top by holding on to the lead it had from the start.

I think Japan does not like the 360 just because its American. The U.S.A. just does not care where something is made but, the 360 came out first and it was cheaper so people started buying it first and then their friends bought them and so on and so forth. Playstation still has a strong brand name here in the States and thats why the sales are still not too bad considering. I find it funny that two consoles, both with their guts designed by IBM in the USA, both with their internal parts made largely in Taiwan and then assembled in China, can even be considered to be American or Japanese.

I'm American and I bought a 360 because I wanted it, not because of some hidden sense of patriotism. I bought a PS3 because I wanted it, not because of some hidden sense of japanophilia. I want a Wii because I want it. I don't buy consoles based on where they come from - I have a 360, but most of my games are made by japanese companies. Same goes for my PS2 and my PS3. I do not care for country loyalty. I go where the games are. Perhaps other people buy consoles because of some national pride, but I sure as hell do not.

I don't agree fully with that. Of course it might be that americans want to buy a US product but here in Italy most of the people I know have a 360. Can you explain that?

I think it's all about the price difference, at least it was till Sony price cut. But costing less definetly game MS the upper edge in my opinion.

That's not a good reason considering the Xbox was American as well but it still got prounced by the PS2.

Is that why you own a PS3?

pretty sure that's false.

EVERYONE that I knew had a PS2 last gen. Including myself, I still have mine, despite it being DRE'd. I think one of my friends had the Xbox orig.

let's just say Halo moves more consoles than you might think, because every single one of those PS2 users I knew bought a 360, Halo as a huge factor.

it's a shallow observation, but I'm pretty sure it's how it worked.

and we all had N64s before that, well I used PC, odd one out etc...

I have to somewhat agree. Every PS2 owner I know bought a 360 over a PS3 but not because of Halo. Most of them read the arrogant things Sony said and made the switch.

Maybe the fact that you can buy a 360 (albeit one that comes with the bare minimum of extras) for less than $200? Say what you want to about the Arcade, but i think it's a big reason for the 360's success here. Sony should follow suit and release something similar. Maybe a 20gb slim with some features from other PS3 models excluded, (like hdmi and wifi) then sell it for $200. idk, i'm just speculating. :P

it's a shallow observation, but I'm pretty sure it's how it worked.

and we all had N64s before that, well I used PC, odd one out etc...

i have 2 working ps2s and i have not moved to the 360, but if i had to choose between the ps3 or 360 i would choose the 360 because of its games. if you want shallow observations the 3 friends i know with ps3s also have 360's as well and i never see them playing the ps3 outside of movies and when i ask to sample one of their games

[QUOTE="surrealnumber5"] well you can tell a lot about a person by the company they keep and he did just admit the stupidity of those he knows, or he assumed a hell of a lot about those that he does not know. either way it was quite tellingT-Aldous

pretty sure that's false.

I have to somewhat agree. Every PS2 owner I know bought a 360 over a PS3 but not because of Halo. Most of them read the arrogant things Sony said and made the switch.

hmm. what did they say back in '06 or so?

sorry, I was too lazy to just quote Kenny's post without your quote in it lol. Wasn't aimed at you.

edit: I fixed it, apologies.

why is the ps3 doing so well in europe and asia but does not have that kind of traction in the US? are the libraries extremely different in other parts of the world, are gamers taste different in other parts of the world, is their marketing better in other parts of the world, are their better features for users in other parts of the world. Whats makes the US market so different?

chicagodon
Why is the 360 almost non existant in Japan?
