bluray and cell, which led to the insane price.
over arrogance on sony's part.
lack of committment from more game developers.
poor online compared to xbox live.
subpar graphics compared to a $299 xbox 360.
...pick one....;)

yes but that price still gives sont 2nd place or nearly that postion. just think when the price goes down..........sony is millions behind the Wii, which is#2....

Either Sony had good supply or people are not buying as many 360's. This time last year you could not find a 360 anywhere. Now, the bestbuy I just started working at has had PS3's since January.[QUOTE="tango90101"][QUOTE="Mass_Effect"]It isn't failing0161

yes but that price still gives sont 2nd place or nearly that postion. just think when the price goes down.......... wii is second place.. Ps3 is third :/Why are you so jealous? Is it because you cannot afford one? Is it because you like the games and can't afford the system? Is it because the controller has both motion sensing and soon rumble? Please give me your reason. Yeah right GS was clearly wrong on that report they did and one member of the GS forum called them out on a mistake they made regarding shadows on madden 07 *which GS later updated on knowing they were wrong*. The ps3 is clearly more powerful and its first gen games are just as good as current gen 360 games. Imagine a year or 2 into the ps3s lifespan and how great the games will look.
maybe because it hasnt been released world wide yet?ViviathHow does that explain it's very poor sales in the U.S. and Japan?
[QUOTE="Viviath"]maybe because it hasnt been released world wide yet?Plug1Plug2How does that explain it's very poor sales in the U.S. and Japan? Well, the poor sales in Japan and the US are due to lack of good games, but im just saying that people should put this all in perspective. Sony still hasnt tapped into one of its biggest, if not biggest, fanbases...so its still too early to call it a failure.
I think they are failing, still, because even still the PS2 sold the same ratio the same time, they wouldn't sit on shelves for months. The problem here is the overpricing, the lack of games and the bad experience on the gaming compared to its competitors.
Let me break it down:
-Overpricing: Sony has Blu-ray! Yay! That means a new generation of DVD players! But...for now it was a risky bet for Sony to add it to PS3. Price went way up and Sony couldn't wait for the launch of the PS3, when Blu-ray were more common. If it's worth more, it's sold less, having lots of the same options on the other consoles. Maybe if the rest of the consoles were a piece of crap...it would have sold more.
-Game library is SHOOOOOOOOORT!!!: Please, gimme a break! For now, PS3's games aren't that great. Sony's got exclusives, but for now, you are not having them all.
-Gaming experience: Let's see, X360's experience bases on its superb internet connection gaming. Wii's getting focused on interactive gaming with its control. PS3? Has kind of both but in a very bad presentation. Here we go with internet. It just doesn't go. And the motion sensitive control is not Wii! The feeling is like you manipulated a panel, and not an object, or doing something translated to the in-game character (take also the facts that a very few games plan to use it and it doesn't rumble :D).
If they want to succeed, they must have started doing things right from the beginning

We only know that motion sensing for PS3 is a failed attempt to mimick WII, plus the rumble thing hasn't come back yet, and if it does I'm hardly exited about it when it's " A Last Generation Future". So it is trying to compete with Wii in terms of control and it's failing against a 200$ machine in that regard. It's trying to compete with XBox 360 graphically and it's failing against 400$ machine. Sounds like 600$ of wasted money to me. Thank you I would rather buy and 8800 GTX card for that kinda money. Is it just the price? Lack of decent games? The archaic controller?

$600 Having that useless blu-ray player, a trojan horse in the format wars, in there is what makes it such an expensive system. Sony literally shot themselves in the foot with that decision. Is it just the price? Lack of decent games? The archaic controller?

Lets see how it does when it is in every region and has been out in the market for a year and 5 months, then we can judge that by how is it doing. Right now vcharts says MS still hasnt sold 10 million yet and its been a year and 5 months out in the market, that is bad. 9.56 million, and for a system that only cost $399 and has all these titles, must mean everyone will hold out and go buy the wii until sony brings some of the games that they are waiting for to buy the system.
Don't believe the misleading Sony PR hype about the PS3 being the fastest selling Playstation console ever. The PS1 and PS2 each launched in Japan only for the first several months, in very limited supply, and outside the holiday season. So what they're doing is comparing sales in two regions during the holidays for the PS3 to sales in just Japan for the PS1 and PS2. What you really want to do is compare region to region or worldwide. By March of the year after the PS2 launched, it had sold almost 5M in Japan, 3M in NA, and 2.9M in PAL regions, with an extra 6 months for the Japan numbers. In contrast, PS3 has so far sold 0.8M in Japan (in a shorter time) and only 1.2M in NA in the same amount of time. Even with the PAL launch the PS3 isn't expected to sell more then 1-1.5M there. Clearly the PS3 is not doing nearly as well as the PS2 was even early on before it really took off. Just goes to show you can't take everything Sony PR says literally. :PDKII
I think it's the price at its lack of games. $600 is a lot to ask from people who want to buy it just to play games and seeing as how it just launched, there aren't that many games yet available for it.PikaPichuI'm pretty sure there will be a lowering of the price announced at e3. It is a feeling since, they stopped sending 20 gb ps3's out..
