Why is there not a bigger backlash against Sony?

For 10 years, lemmings have had to put up with Cows saying "Haha! You have to pay for multiplayer! Neiner neiner neiner!" Now Sony is making you pay as well and THERE IS NO BACKLASH. Microsoft got hell because of the DRM they needed for their features for the console, but no backlash against Sony for charging for online? And don't say "Well, you get free games!" because that has nothing to do with online multiplayer.

The PS4 is getting tons of undeserved hype. With the hype it's getting you'd think it was the next PS2... but when your best "exclusive" is Killzone, your console isn't any good. Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, and Kingdom Hearts are all now playable on the Xbox... the PS4 has no great exclusives, is now charging for online, and is just a suped up PS3. A PS3 with more RAM, that's it.

Yeah, I mean I could find 20 threads on system wars of cows complaining about Xbox Live's charge, and a ton of websites saying Microsoft's online should be free and they shouldn't charge. Now, these "neutral" Websites have not even TALKED about Sony charging for online besides announcing it. It's not just fanboys, it's even "neutral" sites.

If I was a PSN member I'd be pissed off. And those "free" games won't be "free" soon once Sony gets enough subscribers.

If it wasn't a big deal why was it every other thread bashing Xbox Live had to do with it costing money and why were there entire articles on websites written about how Xbox Live should be free?

It's only not a big deal because Sony said it's OK, and if Master Sony said it, then we shall not question Master Sony. This kool aid sure tastes good!

At the onset of the news, I was very ticked off. Not enough to dissuade me from buying a PS4, but for sure disappointed. Then some news started trickling out, and I started feeling much better. 

• It's been confirmed that the choice to be behind the paywall is on the publisher/developer, not on Sony. What this means is that games that are F2P (Warframe, P2) or MMOs (FFXIV, DCUO) do not require the subscription to PS+ in order to be played online. I appreciate that it is flexible and this give options to players who do not want or can't afford to subscribe to PS+ but would like some online gaming.
• Services & Apps are not being placed behind the paywall. This means that you don't have to pay a 2nd fee to enjoy a service you already pay for (i.e. Netflix).
• The free games have been confirmed to not be going away. To be fair, they were never "free games". I imagine that our subscription fees were being used to give the publisher/developer some compensation based on how many people actually downloaded the title. An instant game library/games as a subscription service are a strong suit for Sony, and they've only been increasing their focus in this area. Of the two platform holders, only one is launching a console with 4 free games for their subscribers (Driveclub, Don't Starve, Outlast, Secret Ponchos).

So yeah, while it is a bitter pill to swallow, it is less so because they are at least trying to appeal to consumers rather than strong arming them for my money.
