Bill Gates feels he can get away with inflation tactics because if he forces a crash then games will end up on the PC and he will dominate the entire gaming industry on Windows 13, only twenty years after the crash of 83, and thirty years after the birth of gaming in 73.

Microsoft hurt the industry by resorting to inflation tactics that push up the cost of game development by paying game designs unsustainable quantities of money in order to compete with Sony and Nintendo. Thankfully Nintendo is fighting Microsoft's inflation tactic.

The 360 has by far the largest number of AAA's and AA's among the three consoles, the Wii has the least.

For anyone that loves traditional gaming the 360 has been a godsend, technical complaints about the system aside.

If anything, the Wii is changing the amount of "great" grade A titles out there. For the first time EVER, the console with the highest sales (by far) has the least AAA's and AA's, and that sure as Hell doesn't look to be changing anytime soon. THey are now concentrating on funneling profits into making games for people who didn't play games prior to this generation.

Ugh, makes me wish I could rewind time back a generation or two.

Lol, people have been predicting an industry crash for 2 and a half decades, based mostly on the last time the industry crashed (and it was so vastly different it shouldn't even be considered the same industry as it is today.)

Not going to happen.

There will be no console AAA's if the industry crashes. Which is what Bill Gates wants. So videogame designers have to use the PC as the main platform.

Games have consistently been $50 for a long time, and it was 3rd parties that started the $60 game trend, not Microsoft.

TC, I've worried about what you've said before... about MS monopolizing the industry, and I really hope not. I love the 360 (obviously) but I love the PS3 and like the Wii too.

But we'll see what happens.

MS made a system to get ahold of the future living room as media dlc money maker not to crash the industry and make all games PC only. I think you are confusing Bill Gates with Dr. evil.

MS saw that they could not just hand over all that future income to Sony without a fight, that's why they are willing to lose billions on the Xbox.

Btw, what a lame ass gen this would have been without the 360 in it.

 @ this joke thread.

MS doesn't earn money from games that go to Wndows. They will probably sell more Windows operating system, but they practically own 90+% of the market anyway that forcing all games onto Windows will have little effect. They stand to earn more if the Xbox brand is successful.

I'm going to leave this thread to die. Feel free to post in it whatever.

I'm going to think exactly what it is I'm trying to say as I do believe Microsoft is trying to force the industry in it's favour, and I do not think it is something a gamer would support if they saw what was going on.

I realize as gamers you want to think Microsoft are on your side. Especially on this forum.

Of course Windows, but Windows doesn't earn liscensing fees from game publishers like the Xbox does. Therefore, how can they make more money if all the games go to Windows? Like I said, they already own 90+% of the OS market. How is having games on Windows going to help them again?

On the other hand, if MS wins majority share in the video game market, that's a nice $22 billion industry they can have controll over which means more money for them.

Do you want to know what your beloved Nintendo is doing?! They are artificially controlling the sale of Wiis to make it seem like they are constantly sold out in and in large demand. When in reality, if they allowed retailers to sell the console as it came in, there would be a constant supply... I know this b/c I work at Kmart and Nintendo has told us not to sell the Wiis that we have in stock... they did the same thing with the wii fit around a week or 2 ago...

Y'know, even though games cost ten dollars more than they did last gen, last gen, adjusted for inflation, was the cheapest era in which to buy games. Games had traditionally cost about 50 dollars, and, as time passed, those fifty dollars came to be worth less and less, hence the price adjustment with the 360's games.

Depending on whether it's a joke or not...

Microsoft actually has far, far less control over PC gaming than it does the 360. It actually pays developers to adopt the Games for Windows logo, as opposed to charging licensing fees to use the 360.

It can be a dominant force in the OS market, but it can't control PC gaming.

I keep asking you what you mean by inflation, and you keep saying that inflation is inflation, which is in no way any kind of answer.

How has Microsoft caused inflation in the industry? They were not the first to charge $60 for games (it was 3rd parties) and they were not the highest priced hardware this generation.

Paying developers for support (Subsidizing dev costs) is not inflation, and there is little proof of it besides with GTA 4 and that was more loan that payment.

Securing support for their platform is smart business.

And MS could only bring the industry down if they were well in the lead in the industry, which is no where near reality.

Take off your MS hate glasses and stop with the wild conspiracy theories.

But that was from gamers pockets. Microsoft is paying millions that we cannot afford without Microsoft.

First developers go where the install base is, and currently MS controls this in NA. Secondly, from information I've read it appears that it costs more to develop on the cell and that releasing games on Blu-ray vs DVD9 also cuts into developer profits. I'm not saying that MS is the angel of the industry, but I think you're wrong in this instance.

Now in regard to the Blu-ray/HD-DVD battle, yes I think MS interfered hoping that neither format would take off and allow digital distribution to be the "format" winner.
