Why Microsoft/Xbox never utilize or promote their Actual System seller?

Hello friends,

So microsoft and xbox are only company that have system seller even for limited for thier times but they are really not Gears/Halo/Forza and these 3 are what they only promote.

Xbox did had System seller, the best FPS of Xbox was a system seller but it was not Halo. it was Riddick EFBB that was first console exclusive FPS that even run many PC FPS for money. it was as exclusive as Halo eventually both shipped at PC later.

Xbox 360 on other hand got System Seller that was Alan wake. but then Microsoft was not interested in it and didnot let remedy to made a sequel they originally planned and MS let them make Qauntum break which in turn out to be worst Remedy game to date.

now after Remedy aquire Alan wake IP and they are making a sequel to best game MS ever publish in history. but even in 2022. MS still want to promote Gears/Halo/Forza.

the point is. why they never utilize their actual sytem sellers/masterpeices? lets discuss

Because system sellers are games that sell.

Gears/Halo/Forza sell significantly better than Riddick, Alan Wake etc.

Same reason Sony only promotes GodofWarUnchartedGranTurismo in their milking of franchises. $$$$

The last true system sellers for any system I can remember is Breath of the Wild and Metal Gear Solid 4.

Outside of that, fanboy hype and individual unit sales mean nothing

There hasn't been a game in the last generation that sparked a surge in console sales outside of the Switch.

Reason? Destiny, Fortnite, PUBG, Roblox, COD, Genshin Impact, etc

Those games define the last decade of gaming, not exclusive franchises or mascots

For something to sell a system, it has to sell itself first...

Did this dude seriously just say that the OG Xbox's biggest system seller was Riddick and not the greatest launch title of all time, Halo: Combat Evolved?

Riddick sold less than 200k copies in 2004.

Alan Wake sold 3 million copies total before its expansion, which is good... Just not Halo 3 good. Halo 3 broke the 24 hour sales record of $170 million in 2007.

And Halo 1,2&3 each set some sort of 1st week sales records surpassing even films. (According to that six part Xbox documentary) which is actually interesting to watch.

Fallout, TES, Halo, Gears, and Forza are MS system sellers.

both Riddick and Alan wake was far better than anything Halo but MS didnot utilize them.

Riddick was by far best xbox FPS ever. and one of the best FPS ever.

infact, I bought Xbox 360 just for Alan wake and it was worth it.

This was also only on Xbox and was so much better, more badass and only console FPS that put many PC FPS to shame.

and yes I agree. Alan wake was too intellectual for Halo crowd. Halo crowd didnot gave Alan wake respect it desearve, MS abondon it. until Epic pick it.

@ghosts4ever: The fact that the movie Chronicles of Riddick flop in theaters at the time, the game didn't help itself for sharing the movie title in the process despite subtitle says Escape from Butcher Bay thus never was/will be a system seller. Period! If it was a system seller, you would see a sequel and if it didn't share the movie's name, it probably would have stand on it's own merits.

I can see why Vin Diesel gave up on this franchise and why the last Riddick film flop too. At least Pitch Black was awesome.

Is noone else ITT aware that the core team that developed Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay splintered off from Starbreeze studios and formed Machine Games, which is now owned by Microsoft?
