No, they target people who want to spend less than $300 on a game system.Darthmatt
that is also acceptableÂ

Your logic has failed you. Punish it...
nintendo is after the children. they know that IF they can get their attention then their parents will have to buy one. that's what i know. the pokemon games, nintendogs, mario are just a few franchises. see, they get you as a kid. you parent probablly bought you your first gameboy or gameboy color, and you've been playing those games ever since. this is their strategy: make kid friendly games, have parents forced to buy them.
MrBlackbeard
Obviously targeting a young market isn't the only reason the Wii sells, otherwise the GCN and N64 would've been much bigger successes.

By your logic, GC should've sold a lot more than it did...because Nintendo (many people think) targeted toward children.Â

they are still targeting children, but in a more physical way. see, children find it hard to play video games. now they are simpliying them further to appeal to the tender young'uns.
I'm 21 so you're logic fails. The Wii targets everyone. E-V-E-R-Y O-N-EBlackbond
you're 21 and you play wii? well, ofcourse there will be some exceptions. but i think more kids play wii not adults.
Now ain't that just cute....But it wrong
Recent data shows an increase of 127 per cent in people 35 years old and up purchasing a DS device, for which most of the brain games have been produced. The female contingent in that is up 42 per cent.
Another 16 per cent of men over 50 report they play games regularly, while 10 per cent of women over 50 are also regular users.

So just because the Wii's largest demographci (which might I add you have failed to prove) are children its automatically only targeting children? Nintendo is targeting everyone.[QUOTE="Blackbond"]I'm 21 so you're logic fails. The Wii targets everyone. E-V-E-R-Y O-N-EMrBlackbeard

Thats a narrow assumption. 7 out of the 11 people in my office own a wii, only one person bought it for his kids.[QUOTE="Blackbond"]I'm 21 so you're logic fails. The Wii targets everyone. E-V-E-R-Y O-N-EMrBlackbeard

quite the opposite. it's adults that don't seem to grasp the controllers a lot more often than kids.Â
wow this thread fails on so many levels. im 19. that other guy is 21. my friends are 17 and older. with the oldes being a 25 year old who owns one. then theres the massive non gamer soccor moms Nintendo picked up with the wii. Trust me its getting other people than kids. also Nintendogs has actually been more of a girl game really. I generally see girls playing that if anything. other than that, i have never once seen a dude play that game.

I am a manager for a major call center. Me and me of my fellow managers all own and play the Wii
OH NOOOOOES! NOT THE CHILDREN!!!! ANYTHING BUT THAT...they clearly should be playing Halo and Mass Effect and Assassin;s Creed and MGS4...cause those are the games are just right for them at their tender young age...clearly, compicated gameplay and mature themes are better than whatever Nintendo is offering at a reasonable price!

i'm not impressed by those numbers. first it only mentions the INCREASE in nintendo gaming. second, it says 16% age 50+ men play video games. but that is misleading. they could be playing chess on their cell phones, that is not nintendo related. Â

All Consoles are aimed at children or casual players. Only a tiny number of console players are gamers.

Then you're probably not one yourself.
I'm 24 and I bought a Wii on launch day. One of my friends works at a downtown LA law firm, and half of his coworkers either want to buy a Wii or already have one. Another one of my friends works at a game dev studio, and she also bought a Wii on launch day, and almost everyone in her office has a Wii. None of us are parents; we're all working professionals in our twenties and early thirties.
So speak for yourself.

I have a 56" 1080p HDTV with a $2,000 surround setup. I demand HD graphics and multimedia capability combined with the latest in online play and the best AI and physics without having to buy a gaming PC.  The Wii didn't target me. In fact, it insulted me.Â

I don't want a PC setup in my living room. I don't want to bother with system specs, patches, mods, upgrades, and all those headaches. And there's the most important aspect which is NCAA Football is not available for PC.

Well then why bother with consoles all togther? I mean, you're so mad about the Wii not having surround sound and HD gaming. PCs have like 1200p equivalent and 7.1 surround sound. I could easily say, "all consoles don't offer high end surround sound and HD gaming".Nintendo is after everyone. On the launch day here in Europe, most of the guys in game stores were about 30. I went
to buy it with my brother (for him) I'm 23 and he's 35..we got it (by buying our way in the line ;)) and talked to the clerk
about the games and stuff. Then we started talking to a guy (about 30-40) about the Wii games, what we should by, like "Don't by that, it has bad control scheme. But try that! etc.". We bought Red Steel (dammit!!) and when walking out the store I was like
"Why everyone buing a Wii were over thirty?" My brother laughed so hard XD
So you see.Â
Hahah, complicated gameplay, and Nitendo has simple gameplay? Sorry, but MGS and Halo are some of the easiest games arount, I mean, it takes like a day to beat those, first time, or maybe two since I got a little bored. Where as games like Zelda, Mario RPG, Super Mario Bros, and more, are very hard. Zelda requires me to think of what to do, MGS makes me shoot and try to sneak(Too bad it's such an easy game I don't need too), and Halo makes me shoot guys. Although, MGS is my favorite series, but I do acknowledge it is a very easy game on the lower difficulties, where as Zelda, is always hard, no matter what.OH NOOOOOES! NOT THE CHILDREN!!!! You didn't see the edit. NCAA Football, (and to a lesser extent NCAA 2k7 and NBA 2k7), do not appear on the PC. The consoles provide an all in one compact solution with static system requirements for gaming. I buy a game for 360 or PS3 and I KNOW it will work when I get it home.  Â

Not all. The Wii lacks the horsepower I need for gaming while the PC lacks the games (in this case NCAA which is my Zelda, Halo, MGS all rolled into one) and convienance of a console. If the Wii was even near the PS3 or 360 in power I'd probably be very happy with it. As it is, it looks like total garbage on my TV almost to the point where it hurts. I have to leave the room when my wife plays the damn thing.Â
