I don't understand why this wouldn't be done. It would instantly sell millions with no effort whatsoever. Not only would it pull in millions of new gamers who were too young to enjoy it the first time around but it would pull in those of us who loved it the first time around and would love to see it updated with today's technology.
It would be an instant cash cow for Squenix and since a lot of the work is already done (the story, music, battle systems and whatnot...the only thing that would need to be done is the programming) it wouldn't take nearly as long as most games do nowadays.
Just think of the possibilities. It already has an amazing story but combine that story with today's technological presentation and the money rolls into Squenix.
