As a new PS3 owner and old Xbox360 owner I've been comparing reviews, screenshots and prices of all my multi-platform games lately to get the game for the best system. What I'm noticing quite often is that the prices of some of the older games (like Prince of Persia-Forgotten Sands) are more for the PS3 ($30) verses the Xbox360 ($18). Why do PS3 games seem to hold their value more than the identical game on the Xbox? I'm mainly just curious because 9 times out of 10 I prefer to play on the Xbox because the controller is much better and generally most games look and play better on that system.

Just like Nintendo not lowering the Prices for Super Mario Galaxy and Twilight Princess.

Sony don't wanna.

Blu-ray discs actually cost more than DVDs, maybe?

What about the greed of Ubisoft? TC, you really need more examples because where I live, Europe, the prices are usually the same give or take a few €. And prices are also depend on demand, if nobody wants the game and the store can't get rid of it...they'll lower prices. The demand for PoP on 360 will be much lower because mainly everyone will be playing shooters whereas on PS3 it is higher. Take those into equation.

I just searched some old games on Amazon and I don't see what your talking about, I searched some old games like Bioshock which was cheaper on PS3, and Dead Space, Fallout 3 was the same price on both. It just seems to vary.

I think he's talking about ps3 exclusives which for the most part is true.

Edit: After reading the entire post I was wrong. Some games are the way he states though and I've seen this at a few gamestops as well.

Generally the PS3 copies sold less than the 360 counterparts, so there are fewer copies floating around, driving the price up a little.

I don't know. I do know that I have no reservations about buying a used game on ps3 'cause of the blu-ray's scratch resistance, whereas I avoided used games in the past.

As for older new games, no idea.

Just shows xbox sales slow down after a while to the point prices require a huge drop to have them sell, PS3 sells steadily i guess, mostly because not as many are hardcore on ps3 so people are like "I'll get it soon"... on xbox they are like "Day one!!!" and then everyone has it so the sales slow down.

I suppose you could be right, this might be an anomoly. What prompted me to jump to this conclusion is that it also seemed that many of the "greatest hits" for the PS3 were $30 games where as the majority of the Xbox Greatest hits were $20 games. In general it seemed like prices on older PS3 games were a tad higher. I could be wrong. I'll have to keep a closer eye on it.

Oh so your thinking about the exclusive games? Then yeah your right, Xbox greatest hits like Gears 2 and Fable 2 are usually 20 and PS3 greatest hits like Killzone 2 and R&C are 30, on Amazon though their prices go up and down frequently.

game stores make money on game insurance. the ps3 disks are very resistant to scratches and no one takes insurance out on them maybe they up the prices a bit because of that? i don't know why either but i once got 2 euro more for a ps3 game(bioshock 2) when i traded it in with my brothers 360 version too.

Probably because there are more copies purchased on the 360, hence more returned copies. That means that in order to get rid of the abundance of 360 versions, they price them to move relative to the more limited PS3 counterparts.

Do you mean used game prices? I find that used game prices for the 360 are always cheaper, but thats probably because there's usually more of them in circulation.

The 360 install base is going to be larger then the PS3 side. Of course that means more used games are coming back for the 360 and just like any other business they need to price their items if they are overstocked.

More 360 games sold leads to more used copies flooding the market. Stores only have so much shelf space so the lowered prices reflect this. Their is nothing crazy about his post.

Exactly. Used copies of Uncharted were promoted at £8 then it whent up to about £15 two weeks later. They flew off the shelves so the stock whent down and priced higher.

Maybe it's a piracy thing? I mean maybe because X360 is so easy to pirate, game value drops even more? I don't know, I'm just throwing it out there.

PS3 is lower in demand, thus PS3 games that are produced less, are demanded more.

I realized this too.

altho heres an exception:

armored core for answer

and altho there aren't ps3 versions of these games, it's interesting to watch the price of shmups continually increase as well (such as espgaluda II and dodonpachi daioujou).

^ This Go to a Gamestop and look at the used games section and count out how many cases you have on each system for a (formerly) popular game say Assassin's Creed 2 or Modern Warfare 2. Alot of the time the 360 version outnumbers the PS3 version almost 2:1 in most cases.

If you want a great example look at Marvel Ultimate Alliance. For 360 this was a second generation title, but for the PS3 this was a launch title.

360 cost $6 brand new

PS3 cost $20-25 brand new

A lot less PS3 copies were sold than were sold on the 360 (it was also part of a pack in bundle on 360).

Supply and demand. If the demand is equal for both PS3 and 360, but supply is less on PS3 then the PS3 price will be more.

i think 360 games just aged better and are better with better value but microsoft is smart and realises if the games are half the price or lower, more people will buy them, so they get more money

I feel for you OP. In the UK prices are pretty much equal so I never understand these threads. I base my buying choice on other factors but cost difference is never a issue for me on multiplats.

Wait, are we talking used games or copies that have just never been sold?
