Oh, and by the way, my PC is more than capable of playing games, and I do play a lot of CS:S. I wouldn't say PC gaming is dead, but this is a serious problem.
you do realize you can pirate Console games right?cobrax25
Except it's extra time. You gotta mod your console, etc. And for PS3 I would think noone would have the patience/money to do it. Buy Blu-Ray drives for PC, download 25GB file, rip it, buy discs. PC gaming is just download, install, you're done.
You do realise those numbers show that PC piracy isn't that bad right? I know it is but those numbers don't say much considering nitty alone lost 1billion ot piracy :S.jangojay
All those games have been out for a while. Imagine how they would be when let's say COD4 first came out. Hell, they probably somehow got it the day before.

lol, its nothing like that on the PC....you need special software that emulates a drive, and than after all that if that game has copy protection it all gets several times more complicated....especially if it involves online verification, thats why the Orange box numbers are so low despite being the most popular PC game on the list...
also...whats the logic of pirating games like frontline or COD4? those games have worthless singleplayer.....
This thread is pathetic. TC you should be ashamed.Franko_3
I'm just a little bored here.
And read what I said, it's numbers. I never said it's dead. These numbers are ashaming to the PC Gaming industry. dont blame me for linking to Kotaku.
You do realize most of these pirated games come from around the world.GunraidanAnd a lot of those come from america, since America's population is HALF THE WORLD
does mininova even show how many dls happen per day?
to my knowledge i didnt think they did
those numbers seem highly inflated for a day, they seem more like all time downloads
altho im not arguing the facts that lots of ppl pirate games its just hard to believe mininova has such high numbers considering its a horrible torrent site
someone messed up researching for this article

not nearly as easily , and it's not nearly as rampant.

1 billion dollars from nitty alone isn't rampant? Man I'd have loved to see the PS2s figures with piracy. Those were probably off the charts.

360 sales are at the top of the charts all the time....PC sales are not. I think it's safe to say it's not as rampant.

That's why PC earned more revenue than the 360? Anyway I know pirating is a problem on the PC but not mentioning that it happens on other platforms and making it sound like it's ONLY bad on the PC is silly. That's why nitty took the intiative to do so themselves.

PC US sales have always been low....its in Europe where everything is a lot larger....look at the german sales charts, their isnt a PS3 or 360 game even on their.
I've said for awhile that piracy was a big problem for PC, but somehow people keep saying I'm full of crap. Well I hope they are happy now (I'm not really, but it does vindicate me).
PC Gaming will stick around, but it will be from things like MMOs and casual titles that either can't be pirated or aren't as much, I don't think you'll see nearly as many big epics on the PC down the road.

Did you forget about the PC gaming alliance? Or the fact that we have many big epics down the road already?
It's not piracy alone that hurts PC games but it's having a PC fast enough to play current titles. A lot of people have a computer but couldn't run CoD 4 on it. I know several people who bought the console version of CoD 4 because their PC couldn't handle it.
Also piracy only works for off line play unless you are talking about some of the older games. Xbox Live will ban your system if it detects a mod chip.

DragonfireXZ95
The PC Gaming Alliance may be successful, but they definitely need to get their name out quick considering how few people actually know about them. Also I think you know full well what I mean. Good God, hermits annoy the heck out of me sometimes.
NPD doesn't include DD which we found out the other day makes up about 70% of PC game sales.TiefsterLink?

they had 1.5ghz pc or what lol? Cod4 is not really demanding, my 3ghz with a 6800gs agp card could run it on high with no AA.

No offense, but maybe they should stop trying to game on their e-Machines. CoD4 isn't the least bit demanding.

Yeah, I know and that's pretty much my point. Lots of people have old computers.
Xbox 360 will die soon because of piracy too. Plus why you need an Xbox 360 when you have got a PC. Most 360 games are released on pc anyways. When was the last time you saw a ps3 exclusive on PC?WhyuStillAlive
why do you need a pc for when u get most of the games on xbox360 first?...when was the last time you saw a ps3 exclusive on PC?.....see what i did?

its kinda hard to spin it that way when the PC gets more AA/AAA exclusives than any other platform every year.

I don't. We get your games eventually as well as having our own. You really don't get much of our better exclusives. Plus what is the last sentance about?

There was once a console fanboy who said the the American population is half the word

On topix: Yes, PC gaming is pretty much dead except for the extreme casual and hardcore sides.
Nvidia's massive hardware sales say quite the opposite.
for 1 steam sales are now worth over 50% of total pc games sales
2 just because you download the game files doesn't mean its going to work, especilly onine, it very tough to get working game without valid cd keys
3 consoles piracy is just as bad
you do realize you can pirate Console games right?cobrax25
exactly and unlike pc gaming with consoles once its chipped every single game will work on pc you need a crack for every game and often a new one every time a new patch comes out and often now you can't patch a cracked version

once modded every console game can be copied and played for nothing with pc you gota hope someone can crack it, no crack no play and some remember people bashing starforce basicly becasue the hacker couldn't crack the game within a week. scct 6 months and still no working crack a noob could make work. and every pc game to play online need a valiad cd key, oh and good luck getting through steam, yes hl2 was cracked before it came out but on hackers knew how to make it work. there were 100s of millions of ps2 games pirated last gen
