so lately I've been thinking about upgarding my gfx card/hdd/ram and cpu ( as I got a Pentium Dual E2180 2.00 Ghz which seems to be a bit weak and my 9600GT 1GB doesn't always "help" the weakness of my cpu; Mafia 2 had tremendous framedrops. )

I thought that playing on pc would give me the following advantages:

- I'd get many games from Steam and I'd consequently save lots of money on the games.

- Freedom of choice, as in being able to play Fps's and Rpg's with mouse and keyboard and other genres with a controller.

- Better graphics and presumably better performance.

- Not having to pay to play online.

So before spending hundreds of euros on my computer, I thought about asking you guys if this is a wise choice. I'd use my xbox 360 to just play those games that don't make it to the Pc such as Castlevania Los, RDR etc.

I gotta say that I'm not a fan of rts's and mmorpg's, I much prefer fps's, wrpg's, action, acton/adventure games.

and I'd also like to have a machine that would let me play games for at least 4-5 years, even if I can't max them all out ( not interested in it ), I'm just good with decent performance.

- do not tell me to buy a ps3/wii, I'm not intereseted in one of these at the moment.

thanks

I see that PC gaming is absolutely fantastic. I have a couple of friends who game on the PC.

I still think consoles are better though. Seeing that PS3 also has free online and both have exclusive downloadable arcade games. Not telling you to buy a PS3 btw.

I can still see why you like PC and I definitely think it's great to play on it.

Decide your purchase on what games you want to play, not by which system you think you should own.

You're right in thinking you'll get those advatages, but in order to be able to play games for 4-5 years at decent settings, you'd have to spend a lot.

Imo, go to the hardware forum, tell them how your budget is and the guys there are gonna come up with something nice.

It's awesome because I already need a highend pc and gaming is just a bonus while a console costs me and it has no use outside entertainment, plus pc games are so much cheaper, run much better and let you customize controls etc.

he wants decent performance, so he won't need to spend a lot. probably he'd spend more to buy all three consoles. if I were you, Tc, I'd get the following parts:

Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600

HD 5770

4-6 gb of ram

and you're more than good at least for the end of this gen. then your pc will still be good or will be bad according to the power of the next gen consoles

And that system should not cost you more than $400.

If you have a larger budget, then definitely go to the PC hardware forum.

Another ig bonus of PC gaming are mods, BTW. You haven't played oblivion/fallout 3 until you've played them modded.

You don't like RTS's or MMORPG's so you'd better have some big big love for FPS to make it worthwile, if you already own a 360.

Here is what pc has over console...That MATTERS the most..

replacable parts...especially if anything breaks down. just order, install, fixed.

can play thousands of games from 80s to current day.

Here is what isnt as important..

MODS,graphics

Here is what PC lacks...

ease of use, 100% usability of games pads with ease of configuration, games such as Mario "no roms please"..Zelda,LBP,UC,KZ,HALO "to some degree"..And lots of other games found on consoles.

In the end if you think you are a gamer....THEN GAME...Try and game on all platforms as much as possible. Quit arguing, and crying over "which is better"..Just game please.

I own a Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and a Gaming PC. Out of then all I only play the Xbox 360 online with a few choice friends because they don't have a Gaming PC. I only use my PS3 for Blu-ray. The Wii my 15 year old sister-in-law plays once a month otherwise collects dust. I do all my gaming on my Gaming Rig. Nothing compares to the easy, performance and immersion you get from an Eyefinity Rig with Surround Sound. Max graphics and high frame rates along with periperal vision coveragewith dual subs and dual sets of full range speakers front and back along with a center make audio amazing. PC gaming for me is the only way to go.

what i like best about pc is you can get the most out of your games. What i don't like is Digital games, being forced to use windows , unfinished games being patch 100 times before they can work the way there were ment to . Empire total war was a nightmare when it came out. So many bugs and the loading was sssooooo slow .

What i like about consoles is they are cheap easy to use and the games just work . Plus i can sell or trade or even lend and rent games. I hate being stuck with a game on pc i don't like and not be able to get some money back form my investment . Left 4 dead is an example that game got so old so fast it was a huge let down for me . The console firmware are made just for gaming so it's much for stream line if you just want to play games .

Try to OC your CPU and GPU, that should give you a noticeable performance increase, if you go the upgrade path, that would set you back about $400-450 asuming your PSU is good, and you have the OS, HDD, Case and the rest.

PC gaming is worth it no doubt about it.

I like console gaming alot to, but man PC gaming is just perfect for me.

Got this PC 4 years ago and have not had to upgrade anything yet, still playing games on high settings to.

Might upgrade my graphcis card next year but thats about it.

I added a stick of 4gb ram for 40$ thats about it.

I love the mods/user made content that pc gaming has, I love that I can pikc betwen 100+ control options, enjoy takign screenshots of everygame, love the more mature rpgs that are on pc and I like the community alot more then what ive come across on xboxlive or PSN.

PC gamign is awesome and always will be (:
Sooo glad taht I got back into PC gaming after 3-4 years away from it :)

64 bit OS works fine for old games.

Also it usually takes weeks to get your console back after being fixed.

With my hardware parts I send them in and get a replacement in days.

Sometimes I recieve better parts.

I sent in a dead power supply and got a better one for free.

My friend sent in an 8800gtx and they gave him a gtx275.

Well..that's fine, but I'm talking about objective criterias, not your own taste. Fact is PC does offer better selection in those genres, both in quality and quanity. If you like those genres PC is your only real choice.

PC gaming is the best gaming. - Best graphics. - Best customization. - Best input (mouse & keyboard, but you also have the controller option). - Best version of games. - Most games. - Cheaper games, which go on sale regularly, and you save tons of money in comparison to console games. - Best online experience (and it's free). - Mods - Old games. - Best Community. - Cheaper in the long run.

if you already have a gaming PC you are clearly familiar with the differences. Upgrading isnt going to offer a drastically different experience.... your PC isnt that ancient.

since you already have a 360... it seems like you have all the data you need to make said decision. Since its mostly just going to come down to preference.

Why it's worth it:

- many games (strategies, MMOs, simulations and FPS stand out)

- free games

- best graphics

- cheaper games

- better control for some genres

- customisable/upgradable

- backwards compatiblity (not perfect, though)

- free online

- mods

- emulation

Why it's not worth it:

- can be expensive

- soon outdated hardware

- compatibility issues

- may not be the best for some type of games

- multiplatform games may come last on the PC or not come on the PC at all

- bad optimisation in some games (like in super hardware demanding games like Metro 2033)

- annoying piracy protection mechanisms

- you need to know a lot to game well (installation, graphics options, hardware upgrades, ect.)

Just look at a lot of multiplat games that run like crap on consoles.

Fallout 3, Dead Rising 2 and other games.

.

Consoles didn't get games like The Witcher which at first was hinted at being made for consoles but the devs dropped it.

They will probably drop the development of The Witcher 2 for consoles.

.

The PC side may be treated more harshly but the console side is not exempt from it either.

Lol I believe Fallout 3 was the worst on PC, it was crashing all the times for most people. DR2, I have but consoles I Wouldnt know about. Most of the time though, the PC gets shafted with poor perf and bugs

Fallout 3 runs smooth as butter for me.

Sure some rare times we get bad ports but patches will almost always fix the problems.

No, pretty much all pc centric games are like that. Just take a look at any multiplat adventure, euro RPG or strategy game, they all suck on consoles compared to PC versions.

PC still gets bad ports from time to time, but it's not that often nowadays, plus in some cases a port to PC ends up being actualy better than console original, which is something that never happened in previous gens.
