Atleast EA games are varied (from sports, rpg, racing to shooters) and completely optimised.Origin store is great also, they give you classic to new free games from time to time ( Jade Empire, KOTOR , Battlefield 3, Dead space, Plants VS Zombies ). EA published many many memorable games from past to present.

Why people Hate EA so much? Is it for the microtransactions or DLC's? Nowadays most publishers are charging for those in games.

Internet circle jerk is the reasons why the hate is so loud.

EA tests new ways of bringing in revenue all of the time and this means clashing with the more traditionalists on the internet quite a bit. EA's also accused of killing a lot of studios, but that's mostly from EA buying studios going through financial hardship already. It's one of those things they get unfairly blamed for.

EA's not a perfect company, but they aren't the devil. They put out a massive volume of games on all of the platforms. The sheer volume of people their games reach means even if 1% of people end up hating them, there is going to be a lot of loud voices.

No hate from me, I just don't find myself buying all too many of their games. I think the first game I've purchased of theirs in recent years was Battlefront now, and I enjoy it a bit.

They have got a lot better, Origin game prices are pretty good now, they give away months (or so) free games, the have some amazing series under their rule, they make stupid decisions like making BF launch from a browser, the typical dlc and pay to win, but now all studios do most of that. EA are getting better, Ubisoft are now my most disliked company, have been since the Rayman Legends debacle.

Because companies like EA like to pander to our base interests at large, it's like holding a mirror up to society and not liking what you see, that our passions can be so simple and self serving and formulaic, that they can appeal to us so simply like we're just another cog in a machine and not a beautiful and unique snowflake.

Great, now we've discovered the source of peoples pain, now let us let the healing begin...

They implement unsavory business practices into their games, mainly DLC, season passes, microtransactions, pay-to-win models etc.

Not that I care about what they do since most of the games they excrete are garbage.

People dont like EA cause they put a monopoly on sports games. They took away some of the most loved franchises in sports history. Also a bunch of other stuff. Would have to write a book for you. Also they quit on their fans if the money isnt there, they have no dedication to building fanbases.

DLC DLC DLC and what they did to bioware and dice etc.

Seriously games launching with dlcs that cost more than the game itself?

Yes they have worked on building a better imagine lately, but they weren't the worst company in us for years in a row for nothing.

At this stage if it's not Cdprojektred, they're all just as bad as each other. EA, Activision, Konami are all a bunch of imbeciles, Ubisoft is a different story I wouldn't put them in the same category as the above mentioned culprits.

Don't mind if the company is greedy as long as the end product is good. Blizzard is pretty greedy but they make great games with a lot of polish. The problem with EA is that a lot of their games are nothing more than broken, half assed cash grabs and they are also responsible for the death of some of the greatest developers in the industry as well as some of the greatest franchises,

I think the hate they get is a bit extreme, but then they do deserve a fair amount. They've made some dick moves like signing an exclusive deal with the NFL to kill off the competition from the 2k series, or buying Bioware Pandemic only to close Pandemic shortly afterward. Plus you have the tendency to release half finished games to meet a deadline, or shoehorning in always on DRM to "enhance player experience". Also, they didn't invent the annual release, but they did it before it was cool.

Those studios financially struggling who were bought by EA were no longer in financial trouble because they had EA's backing. Their breakup wasn't inevitable, it was a deliberate choice. EA could've done what they wanted, supported them financially and left them to their own devices, yet they didn't, they decided to break them up.

How are they being unfairly blamed for that?

well, they destroyed so many games I loved, like for instance star wars battlefront ea is pure garbage and a disgrace compared to battlefront 2 made by pandemic.

Battlefront ea lacks a lot of content from the previous battlefront games and feel like a really dumb down battlefield games. The only good things about this games, are the graphics and sound effect, evertything else is garbage

i dont hate them but i dont think anyone can deny they are the masters of franchise milking . Not only that but alot of their games recycle alot of stuff including game mechanics from one another ( Battlefield and Starwars for instance ). Add to that excessive DRM and microtransactions that seem to be above the industry average , add practices such as removing their games from Steam and finally add to that buying studios such as westwood and after a while closing them and you get the imo sometimes justifiable hate . To be fair though they also get alot of unjustifiable hate but then again this is internet and what big company isnt getting that as well.

Either the TC has been under a rock or has not paid attention but EA has messed around and killed some beloved franchises. First Sim, SimCity, and a few other game became games that always needed an online connection. There was mobile defense game where they back loaded the game with tons of microtransaction, but to be fair there most mobile games have tons of microtransaction. EA has cornered the market when it comes to what football game you can buy which is only Madden. Back in the last gen, they were one of the first and persistent publisher to put in the online pass just to play a game on online.

With all that said they aren't terrible as they used to be Ubisoft and Warner Bros is starting to take that title way but EA is still up there. Honesty if these 3 company's wouldn't be so overly concerned about a game getting back 3 times the money it cost just to make the game they actually would be alright. Sadly these places are now standard like corperations where major profits are the name of the game. Gaming officially is like the movie industry it's either go big or go indie.

I see EA and ACTI makes optimised games on PC ( Unlike UBI ). Origin and Upaly Store are great. Just look at EA game list ( Thousands of them from classic to present, offering variety's of genres, which other publishers offers as much ? ). Yup, they do've costly DLC, Microtransactions. BUT its not forced ya? rest all big publishers doing them. Its not that i support it. BUT when it comes down to games , EA offers a lot, atleast to me :)

I agree they ruined some games as SimCity, PUT DRM in our computers. But when i tend to look at the games they offer on the plate compared to others, i'm Happy. Can't do without Mass Effect Andromeda on 2016:)

Hate's a pretty strong word but I don't find it childish for anyone to dislike specific products. There are valid reasons to dislike EA. And I find it funny that some users here are trying to be all edgy with their response against the dislike.

Reasons I'm not an EA fan............don't like how they took over football and now do weak updates yearly. They have taken over companies and disbanded the development companies. They have ruined some franchises. And I specifically don't like EA for not supporting the DC which hurt the console. EA can suck it. And so can anyone trying to act all superior over people not liking EA.

I personally don't hate EA, I'm using EA Access and so far, I like it. I think the hate came from when EA was doing that online pass if you didn't buy there game new and not used. I think that whole online pass was a smart move, it encourage you to buy there game new, not used, I hardly buy used games if it's way old and hard to find, then I'll buy that game used. Gamers didn't like that back then because of online pass but I think it was a good practice just to buy there games new. Also gamers hate EA for ruining Bioware [looking at you ME3] but Bioware did this to themselves, not EA.

Actually it's because they broke up a lot of developers and development teams, then took the games they made great and made the sequels not so great with different guys. It never had anything to do with greed but rather their practices in how they implemented their business models over the years.

It's easy to say any company is greedy but to run a business means you are in it to make the investors a return, everything else is just a method to achieve that goal. You can start up a private company, invest and take on all the risks, you have to maximize your return so you can do things like always pay your employees even when you had no sales, pay your bills, leases..etc, pay your own wages, invest in more product/R&D...etc. That is not greed, it's survival regardless of your quarterly profit. Mega million dollar companies can literally be forced to bankruptcy within months for a multitude of reasons.....so you guys shouldn't be so hard on companies being greedy, successful companies will always reinvest which means more jobs, cool products and of course better products.

Dead Space and Dead Space 2 are great games, Dead Space 3 was the true letdown and going to the Ice Planet is what really killed it from there.

Let's see.

1) EA over worked their employees for over 80 hours a week with NO over time pay.

2) Forced MS and Sony to stop developing Sports games.

3) Wouldn't allow their games to run thru Xbox Live servers so they pretty much held the Xbox fan base hostage during the 1st year of Xbox Live when NO EA games had online play on Xbox.

4) When NFL 2K had a Great alternative game to Madden they went ahead and purchased exclusive rights to the NFL and essentially destroyed the NFL 2K football series by monopolizing the NFL license.

5) By far the most Egregious thing EA ever did was send that prick Don Mattrick to MS where Mattrick would ruin the Xbox division and change what Xbox meant to gamers.

Now it looks like getting rid of that parasite Mattrick has not only turned EA around but MS around.

Edit:

6) EA bought exclusive rights allowing them to use Porsche cars In racing games. Porsche makes some of the finest Sports cars and this is another EA douche move especially when Porsches were already part of the Forza games.

I like their On The House offerings.

Don't like how they bought up the Star Wars license for the next decade.

They have done more negative things in the past 10 years than good things.

TC is this a clickbait ? cuz I can’t believe you’re that innocent …anyhow … EA ain’t the only publisher that I hate but my hatred for EA is pure , it’s so much that one time I thought to visit ‘em with a bottle of Molotov but to answer your question here’s why:

list of studios that EA has ruined :

Maxis (SimCity) - Purchased by EA in 1997; shut down in 2015 Though EA says the "Maxis" brand will live on—and the studio currently behind The Sims continues to use the label—the Emeryville-based development house that served as the main descendant of what Will Wright created back in 1987 is officially no more.

Mythic (Dark Age of Camelot) - Purchased by EA in 2006; shut down in 2014

Bullfrog (Syndicate, Dungeon Keeper) - Purchased by EA in 1995; shut down in 2001.

Origin (Ultima, Wing Commander) - Purchased by EA in 1992; shut down in 2004.

Westwood (Command & Conquer) - Purchased by EA in 1998; shut down in 2003.

I think now it's more of people going with the flow. They deserve criticism, no doubt, but the hate online just goes overboard.

Their breakup usually comes when key people of the development studio start to leave on their own. Sometimes the owners flat out sold the company and ditched it, other times the higher ups of the studio would finish the projects they are on and then leave. The studios aren't just broken up by EA and not all studios EA acquires die.

Look at DICE. They are one of EA's core developers now not only make games but providing the publisher uses for all of its main games.

There are too many variables too say that EA just breaks them up. EA wants to make money and by dissolving proven successful developers is not the way to do that. There is always more to the story than the internet wants you to believe.

DreamWorks Interactive/Danger Close/EA Los Angeles (Medal of Honor) - Purchased by EA in 2000; shut down in 2013.

Phenomic (SpellForce, BattleForge) - Purchased by EA in 2006; shut down in 2013.

Black Box Games (Need for Speed, Skate) - Purchased by EA in 2002; shut down in 2013.

Maxis enjoyed it's most successful years under EA and was owned by EA for 18 years before they shut down. That's longer than most studios are alive in general. Do not pin that on EA. The Maxis in 2015 is not the Maxis in 1997. Under EA they developed Sim City 3000 and Sim City 4 + all of the expansions. They also developed the entirety of the Sims series It's foolish to say that Maxis was killed by EA.

Origin is another bad example. Chris Roberts straight up sold Origin to EA and then left the company. When the guy gluing it all together leaves you're going to have problems. Chris wanted the money and wanted to get out of games until the tech was better. Don't blame EA for that move, that one is on Chris Roberts.

DreamWorks interactive/Danger Close/EA LA was never a good game developer. They maybe had one game back int he day, but their lineup wasn't anything good before the EA acquisition. Let's not chalk that one up to EA either. That's been a troubled studio for decades.

So that's 3 I know after the top of my head that EA had nothing really to do with and I bet if you start to dig into those other developers you'll find they weren't all rosey either.
