and that is the point I have been trying to make you would need to upgrade that PC to run Stalker with no lag...

No, no he wouldn't. You can scale down ANY game to play on any 3D accelerator card to a reasonable extent using tweaks and CVARs. You DO NOT HAVE TO UPGRADE OVER THE SPAN OF A GENERATION PERIOD.

"Scaling down" is not an option for many gamers, I like my games to look like the screens on the back of the box.

Non-the-less the option exists. Its not like someone is holding a gun to your head saying "UPGRADE". I don't like the "best possible graphics" reasoning for one pure reason. Want to include the price of a top of the line high end machine huh? Well in order to get the "best possible graphics" on a console you NEED a DHP HDTV that runs about 2K+. We're speaking "best possible" here remember?

Okay, I didn't even bother to read past the first ignorant post. PEOPLE: If you want good graphics, you are going to have to fork over money. Sorry, it is a fact, and always will be. PC's are expensive, BUT you really get what you pay for. Before I buy any console, I am waiting for a price drop. Because at 400 dollars, the 360 just isnt worth it. And don't get me started on the PS3.

a gaming pc for $1,000 and will run crysis, you got to be kiddin'

console is cheap, its cheaper than most people think, a lot of people consider ps3 expensive despite sony spent $ 900 to make one and sell it for $600 and thats just production cost we are including the develop cost they paid IBM to make their console, my father use to work for IBM and he told that sony paid IBM $8 billion to make ps2 for 3 years, so you see console is very cheap, I have my ps2 for 5 years and i dont have to upgrade and buy anything to continue playing any new games that comes out.

You DO NOT HAVE TO UPGRADE in order to have a computer equivalent to a console that runs games looking brilliantly over the span of a generation. Again with the "OMG FACE VALUE" arguement. Face value of a platform is MOOT. You can conceivablly spend less on a PC over the span of a generation than a console thanks to many attributing factors. I know I have. I've spend well over 1.5K (Now) on my 360, and under 1.3K on my PC of twice the time.

Ya, I know. My 21" moniter cost me $189, I play my 360 on it. Notice I never mentioned anything about price, I was merely stating a fact. After seeing dozens of trailers and screenies I want to experience that. Just an observation...

Vandal you must realize that you are in the 0.072% of 360 owners that bought all those "optional" accesories. Just like when I say I have 20 consoles, I know I'm the minority. Don't act like even 5% of them spend that much on accesories.

1.5k on xbox!?!?! how many xbox do you have? did you include the games you buy on that 1.5k? seriously, i spent $500 on my xbox and thats it.

look i spent $300 on my ps1 after 5 years I bought my ps2 for $300 which last about 5 years since there are no great games comin out after GOW2, so thats $600  for 10 years, I dont have to buy anything all games run smoothly, can a $600 last for 10 years in a gaming PC!?!?

These "optional accessories" were actually "required" in my area. No CAT-5 cables because Comcast hates me, 120 for Wifi adaptor. Sweaty hands after getting used to playing with an air-flow controller and constantly dropping my controller, 30 dollars for the skin. Over heating 360 and in order to prolong its life span, 30 dollars intercooler. Playing on my VGA monitor because I don't have a TV, another 30. Charge and play kit because batteries = cry cry expensive, 12 dollahs. Theres quite a few more too. Its not like I went RICER on my 360 or something.

DUDE!  do the math! in the long run u will spend more money in a consloe than a PC,  rentin games $8 each and to buy them $50 each, extra controllers $40 each or $50 , XBOX LIVE $50 A YEAR

and that is the point I have been trying to make you would need to upgrade that PC to run Stalker with no lag...

upgrade jsut memory! taht only cost $100   or a new video card after 3 or 4 years, not big deal! we still enjoy new generation of games

only RAM or a Vid card (try both just to start:roll:) for the next 3 or 4 years with that pc that is already 3 or 4 years old thats only thing...dude you are full of it you try to bend things to fit your arguement but its not working I have layed it out for you very plainly if you don't see it go back to school cause you math skill need polishing...if you old PC was fine to run games as you have just stated why did you get a new rig in the 1st place...there was no need for you to buy your geforce 8800 if all your old pc needed was RAM for the next 3 or 4 years

i got a new pc cus WINDOWS VISTA runs games better and dirext10 and the new  INTELD DUO  2 CORE PROCESOR! its a big upgrade to play games and do other stuff for the next 4 years!

yeah and I will have my 360 for 5 years...like I said I have both a gaming rig and a 360...the 360 is cheaper.

MM IT DEPENDS HOW MANY GAMES YOU BUY OR OTHERSTUFF ETC, if u only have one game then YES ITS CHEAPER LOL,   but i will enjoy CRYSIS despite how much i spend on my PC, consoles alwys will b 1 step behind,

a gaming pc for $1,000 and will run crysis, you got to be kiddin'

console is cheap, its cheaper than most people think, a lot of people consider ps3 expensive despite sony spent $ 900 to make one and sell it for $600 and thats just production cost we are including the develop cost they paid IBM to make their console, my father use to work for IBM and he told that sony paid IBM $8 billion to make ps2 for 3 years, so you see console is very cheap, I have my ps2 for 5 years and i dont have to upgrade and buy anything to continue playing any new games that comes out.

PabbssPS3

You DO NOT HAVE TO UPGRADE in order to have a computer equivalent to a console that runs games looking brilliantly over the span of a generation. Again with the "OMG FACE VALUE" arguement. Face value of a platform is MOOT. You can conceivablly spend less on a PC over the span of a generation than a console thanks to many attributing factors. I know I have. I've spend well over 1.5K (Now) on my 360, and under 1.3K on my PC of twice the time.

DUDE!  do the math! in the long run u will spend more money in a consloe than a PC,  rentin games $8 each and to buy them $50 each, extra controllers $40 each or $50 , XBOX LIVE $50 A YEAR

do the math? I already did one, extra controllers? those are optional, xbox $50 a year, if I play XBL for 5 years thats $250, OMG thats so expensive, an extra $250 for 5 years.

Look dude the only problem with a pc is that they get outdated so fricking fast. People just dont want to upgrade every 2 years they're happy with the every 4-5 years thing.

Its including prices of games. I made it fair by porportionally measuring hours played on each 360 game to each PC game I had, and only included prices of those games so I didn't sway the scale either way.

Some people have no interest in playing the same game for 100+ hours, so that whole point is moot. That is clearly a PC gamers attraction, which console gamers have no interest in. That would be artificial "value". To some people that is the same as s developer taking a 25 hour game and "stretching" it to 50 hours just make it look like more value.

NO, I dont think anyone would play a single game for 10 years they play other games like Oblivion, GRAW, fear, supreme commander which is graphically demanding. we are not talking about if PC>console, or how long can  you play a pc game. I myself still play starcraft but i also play supreme commander, my old pc 8 years ago that I use to play starcraft with wont run supreme commander. and beside I still play classic cinsoles

None-the-less. PC games have more intinsic value with deviating content that lasts for much longer than your average console game. In order to get the kinds of content in your average PC game you need 2-4 console games. I made it fair by not going off and including the price of more 360 games or less PCs or anything like that. Its a comparison of the ammount of playtime you can get out of it.

[QUOTE="True_Gamer_"][QUOTE="Medjai"]Yeah you can build a pretty nice PC for a reasonable price nowdays but the TC saying that building gaming rigs is no more expensive than buying consoles is ridiculousMedjai

PC games cost £30-£25 here...so it all evens up...

I don't really take the price of games into account because I Gamefly and I only buy AAA title pretty much...PC games might be slightly ceaper and in some cases free if you torrent...but I really don't think it evens out on price even if I did factor the price of games into it...it depends though

Ive learnt to enjoy 10 games per year AT DAY OF THEIR RELEASE...

So I pay £25x10=£250 per year for 5 years that makes us £1250 plus the £750 PC I mentioned plus another £200 for RAM/GPU upgrades in 2.5 years (mid term)=  £2200

Now if I bought even a Xbox360 I would have spent £40x10= £400 per year for 5 years that makes us £2000 plus the £280 console plus £150 for XBL (which is free on PC) =  £2430

Sorry but I find the PC not that expensive.

It would affect it in more ways than you know. I'm not including more or less PC gamse. I'm only icnluding the prices of games that average out to equal the same ammount of playtime with deviating content for both platforms. In order toget the same ammount of content you need 2-3 console games ratio on average.

The point is to show that PC games have more intrinsic value through deviating content, and in order to even match that on average you need 2-3 console games. Proportionally speaking, in order to get the same kind of content its 3:1 ratio of console to PC.

Face value of a platform is MOOT. You can conceivablly spend less on a PC over the span of a generation than a console thanks to many attributing factors. I know I have. I've spend well over 1.5K (Now) on my 360, and under 1.3K on my PC of twice the time.

How is it that you managed to spend over $1500 on your 360 and can pull getting an 8800 for $200? I have almost every single accessory for my 360 that I could need, and I'm still around $700.

Its including prices of games. I made it fair by porportionally measuring hours played on each 360 game to each PC game I had, and only included prices of those games so I didn't sway the scale either way.

Time played on those games would not affect the total you are adding up now would it? Seems like you are fudging your point a bit.

It would affect it in more ways than you know. I'm not including more or less PC gamse. I'm only icnluding the prices of games that average out to equal the same ammount of playtime with deviating content for both platforms. In order toget the same ammount of content you need 2-3 console games ratio on average.

Again...seems like you are fudging your point a bit.

[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"][QUOTE="Medjai"][QUOTE="PabbssPS3"]DUDE!  do the math! in the long run u will spend more money in a consloe than a PC,  rentin games $8 each and to buy them $50 each, extra controllers $40 each or $50 , XBOX LIVE $50 A YEAR  Vandalvideo

$12.99 for pressurized air cans to dust my MOBO and components...if you are gonna count $8 for renting games...atleast you can rent console games

Counting game costs and counting air cans are two entirely seperate things. You don't need pressurized air cans. Last time I checked, you needed games to play on that system. PC games innately last longer thangs to mods and extended communities. They just have more intrinsic value. Look at Diablo still be playign today. In order to match the kind of play time you can get out of your average PC you need, on average, about 3 or 4 console games.

Do those poeple who play diablo 2, only plays Diablo 2? NO, I dont think anyone would play a single game for 10 years they play other games like Oblivion, GRAW, fear, supreme commander which is graphically demanding. we are not talking about if PC>console, or how long can  you play a pc game. I myself still play starcraft but i also play supreme commander, my old pc 8 years ago that I use to play starcraft with wont run supreme commander. and beside I still play classic cinsoles

The point is to show that PC games have more intrinsic value through deviating content, and in order to even match that on average you need 2-3 console games. Proportionally speaking, in order to get the same kind of content its 3:1 ratio of console to PC.

yes! good point!! pc gamers can play 1 game and get 100% of all the juice and keep playing it without gettin old for long time!! so we really dont need to buy taht many games or rent taht many games to sastifye our hunger! Crysis will b a great game for us!

I agree with the fact that some(most) PC games have a long shelf life that console games but thats what I am getting at when you are have a hardware cost discussion you can't open up that can of worms about game and accessory cost because it never ends...hardware cost vs. hardware cost is the arguement i am having...the 360 was about the same price as my video card they were both released around the same time and I would rahter have my 360...

Whats the point in that arguement to begin with? Its merely face value. Sure the PC is more expensive up front....................HOWEVER thats not the big pciture. By no accounts is the face value indicative of the cumulative price of a console over the span of a generation. In order to have a fair comparison you have to go into game costs. The only objective way to do something like that is compare how long the average PC game lasts with how long an average console game lasts, find the ratio, and determine how much over time the price of gaming on said platform while gettign the same ammount of content would be. By all acount, its quite possible to spend LESS on a gaming PC over the span of a generation.
