I agree with the fact that some(most) PC games have a long shelf life that console games but thats what I am getting at when you are have a hardware cost discussion you can't open up that can of worms about game and accessory cost because it never ends...hardware cost vs. hardware cost is the arguement i am having...the 360 was about the same price as my video card they were both released around the same time and I would rahter have my 360...Medjai

mmm! i hear rumors taht MICROSOFT will launch a new XBOX360 this year! so ready to spend more money?   And in order to play nex gen of games console gamers will need to buy another console in 4 yearsm and PC gamer will b enjoyn GAMES WITH VISTA AND DIREXT 10  this q4 year LIKE CRYSIS.  ALWAYS 1 step behind.

How long a game will last depends on how long you want to play the game, I play PC more, because im into FPS and strategy, but I have pc games as much as consoles games, so its really about preference. A lot gamers, casual or not buy games even though they haven't gone tired of the current game they are playing.

oh and mods are free but expansions are not.

That may be true, but that doesn't discount the fact that PC games intrinsically last longer. In order to even get the same ammount of content it takes 2-3 console games on average. I could go off and include even MORE 360 games if you'd like. This is the fairest way I see to do it.

Don't try to take what I'm saying at a bare minimum and twist the point. Yes, I'm buying less PC games, but you know what? Its the fairest comparison I can come up with. In order to get the same ammount of content you HAVE to buy more console games. I'm using the content to content comparison to determine a ratio to make a fair price comparison. But yes.

ofcourse PC games last longer, but how many games you buy and how long you play it is your own preference, we cant generalized what works for you, like I said I have as much pc game as console games, so does it means that your theory of 3:1 ratio is wrong? no, because that what works for me.

Yes, I know it changes for different people. Do you want me to post a fifteen page long case study or something? Its not like I pulled these figures right out of my *** or something. Its common knowledge PC games last longer. In order to get the same ammoutn of content you HAVE to buy more console games. Lets leave it at that.

HA HA HA That would be "fudging" your argument. PC Gaming is more $$$$ then console gaming. No matter how you try to spin it, it is.

So you are comparing the cost of console gaming 4 years from now with PC gaming today? Shouldn't you consider what it will cost you to play the new PC games 4 years from now, or are you still going to be using your current rig for that?

Again, "Face value" maybe, but face value is irrelevant. PC gaming is cheaper if you're trying to get the same ammoutn of quality. If you wanted to say "OMG I HAVE TO BUY SO MANY GAMES AS PC" (Even though its a 3:1 ratio in terms of content), then by all accounts lets include the price of that 3K+ DLP in order to get the "most" out of your consoles. I'm trying to be fair here, but if you want to go balls out then I'll include it.

$3 face value for a cheeseburger has no relation what-so-ever to a potential $500-$1500 dollar gaming rig. That was a terrible argument and has no bearing on what we are discussing. Try again. I'll let that one slide.

Do you have a proof on this 3:1 ratio? Do you know how much a average console gamers and pc gamers spent on buying games for you to conclude that PC is cheaper? 360 is just $400, average PC game rig $1,500 (and I doubt it will run crysis), so how many console game you need to buy to make console gaming more expensive

Just like you don't really need a spare controller for the 360, you get a free one of the box.

Brn: It has all the relevance in the world. You're merely looking at face value and ignoring the overall costs over an extended period of time. Sure I'm only spending 3 dollars on a burger, but I'm buying many burgers over a longer extended period of time in order to get the same nutrition or calorie intact from say a carrot or something. Do I really need to elaborate what I'm reffering to? I thought I made it extremely clear.

A lot gamers, casual or not buy games even though they haven't gone tired of the current game they are playing.

oh and mods are free but expansions are not.

chat2

That may be true, but that doesn't discount the fact that PC games intrinsically last longer. In order to even get the same ammount of content it takes 2-3 console games on average. I could go off and include even MORE 360 games if you'd like. This is the fairest way I see to do it.

So you're telling me that the only way PC gaming is cheaper is if you buy less games?

Don't try to take what I'm saying at a bare minimum and twist the point. Yes, I'm buying less PC games, but you know what? Its the fairest comparison I can come up with. In order to get the same ammount of content you HAVE to buy more console games. I'm using the content to content comparison to determine a ratio to make a fair price comparison. But yes.

HA HA HA That would be "fudging" your argument. PC Gaming is more $$$$ then console gaming. No matter how you try to spin it, it is.

Its common sense that PC games last much longer, its rather obvious, since there are Mods, and User-Made Content.... and an $1500 PC will run Crysis easily.

Ready to run Crysis with no problem!

Ps3 costed me $1000

xbox360 $600

so there isnt a much difernece, do a smart thing! and buy a new pc to play the REAL generation of games!

-KinGz-

It's still 600 dollars more than my 360... I pass...

yeap withou games rigth? and without xboxlive and extra controlelr ! the diference goes down when u buy more games or other stuff for ya xbox360! think twice.

Errm and it isn't the same when I add to ur 1000 pc a monitor, speakers, mouse, keyboard, drives, apps, etc, etc? oh and games? so buying games on xbox360 is flaw while buying them on pc is good?

o and not to mention HDTV! lol

I thought I made it extremely clear.Vandalvideo
You made it very clear that you wanted to change the subject from gaming rigs to cheeseburgers. Totally unrelated.

You can build a new rig for under $1000, that has 2gb of Micron D9, A good overclocking motherboard, E4300, and a 8800gts 640mb..

That system owns 360 or the PS3.

And after 4 years of use, is actually cheaper.

Xbox 360 ($400) + Xbox Live ($50 * 4 (years) + 30 games ($50-60)= $2400

Highend Gaming Rig ($1000) + 30 games ($40)=$2200

Try selling these two after 4 years...the PC will fetch alot more money..then you use that money to build a new Rig :)

Nice trying to spin the numbers there by saying PC games are only $40 and that all 360 games are $60 (yes you listed $50-60 but your math used $60). Kind of funny that you had to push the total number of games up to 30 to make this look remotely convincing too. Not sure how much you think you will get for a 4 year old PC gaming rig. Not much at all actually, especially if you don't spend any money upgrading it during those 4 years you mentioned.

I made the mistake of buying all three consoles. There were no agmes I wanted for the Wii or PS3 and ended up trading them in for about 20 games and a nice steak from J Alexanders.

If you build them yourself then gaming PCs are actually pretty doable (Alienware for instance charges you out the nose for what you actually get. :|) but yeah...after four years upgrades are kind of going to be necessary unless you like running everything on the absolute lowest settings possible. While we're at it I'm having a heck of a time making a decent gaming rig for under $650 on Newegg. :(

Sure.

E4300-$110 (Overclocks past a X6800)

GIGABYTE GA-965P-DQ6-$105 (One of the best overclocking mobo, supports FSB 1333)

G.Skill 2gb DDR2 800 (D9 Micron, best overclocking memory)-$200

250gb Hardrive-$55

EVGA 8800gts 640mb-$330 after MIR (Originally $350)

Hiper R 580w PSU 40amps on both rails (a 8800gtx only needs 30amps)-$70

Any case of your Choice, with Fans-$70

Mouse/Keyboard $40

Windows XP-$0 (Use your current install)

All are prices on Newegg, except the CPU which is going to be that much or cheaper after Intel has it price drop in Early April

All parts are well made and aren't skimp on...1 bit

That equals $1000 :) After MIR

Also, I could skimp alittle on some parts, and not all people need a new case, M/K, HDD, and other things.

One more thing Sorry...that PC can do over a Trillion more things than your 360, like go on the internet for free...and go on this website

Also, that PC WILL ALWAYS have better Graphics than your 360...you never have to upgrade to have better graphics than the 360.

Most games for the 360 are $60, atleast the few good ones.

I didn't spin anything, when I had my Xbox..I had more than 40 games...hmmm Gamertage: Obese101

I would rather save $200, have better games, free online, and better graphics than 360.

Umm..thats just me.

Also, what do you do with the old PC parts..throw them out the window?

I sell them for a profit and save the money for others or even a upgrade/

Most PC games are $50. Which puts your math at PC gaming being $100 more. I agree on the better games, better graphics part. I just don't agree with the math spin.

You get what you pay for :)

If the price of each is within 100 or 200 dollars...

The PC can do alot alot more things than the 360 or consoles in general...

I think $100 easily justify's it and to you money doesn't seem to be a problem ;)

Edit: Isn't sad how much people spend on gaming..on any platform..Thousands of dollars seem alot to me.

I really need a new hobby :)
